What Insiders Are Saying
More comfortable than a MINI Cooper, Beatrix is a casual and versatile restaurant in River North.
The lemon pancakes are so delicious... a must try!
All was good— except for a mood change in our server that all 3 of us noticed. After that, she never stopped at our table to check on us and when we needed our check, we had to stand up and wave. It had been 35 minutes since she’d stopped. I had raved about the experience To my friends in although the food and the atmosphere were amazing, I was disappointed and apologetic about our service.
Best place in river north for casual breakfast/brunch. It can get extremely busy but they take reservations.
Blown away by the food, so so good! The restaurant vibe was cozy and comfortable but also elegant, it was a great experience and will definitely go back!
The front desk was very friendly and accommodating, I went for brunch with my 8 yo son. The waiting time was said to be around 1.5hrs. Luckily they let my son sit down and order first while we still wait for our table. My cauliflower grits is amazing, love the dish. We had dinner on same day coz i wanted to go to a healthier resto and I am glad I found this place from the article I read.
The food was great
It was too bright for a Saturday night and very cold in the restaurant.
The food and service were great
Need candles and tablecloths on fri and sat
Great Brunch spot with friends. Loads of nice energy!
The food was excellent and our server was good but this was the 2nd time that we made reservations and we still had to wait 10-15 minutes. People who did not have reservations were seated ahead of us and tables are never reserved. There was only 2 in our party and I did see seats. It was definitely busy but this is the only place where we ever have to wait more than a few minutes with reservations. When we checked in with the host she asked my name and then gave 2 menus to the seater so I started to follow her assuming she was seating us and she turned around and said, “you’re not following me.” I think there was a much more polite way of saying that our table wasn’t ready yet. The host didn’t give us a wait time either. I don’t expect to be seated immediately but I do think that a reservation should mean something and that staff could be a bit more polite.
Another "Lettuce" gem.
The food is always consistent and amazing. Very unique healthy fresh offerings.
Love the food but meal was dampened by a poor service experience. 15 min after our confirmed time we checked back in with the hostess who said they were still waiting on our table to leave. They sat our party of 9 adults at a table that would barely fit 8 and we were on top each other. After all that and not acknowledging the seating issue, they forgot to put in one of our meals, which was thankfully refunded.
This is our favorite brunch spot downtown. It’s always packed, and we had to wait even with a reservation. Mimosas are always on point, and don’t leave without trying the lemon pancakes! Overall a busy hotspot, but always impeccable service and delicious food!
The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Always good service. Would definitely go back for both brunch and dinner.
Really good food and nice/attentive but not annoying service. Simple and tasty/Inventive menu
Beatrix was a great sunday morning breakfast spot!
My honey cinnamon latte was perfection. The menu is extensive and I was
tempted by way to many things. The egg/grits/cauliflower/brussel sprouts
concoction was divine. A unique and delicious combination of flavors.
The kids belgium waffles were also a huge hit. Our server was attentive and
sweet. I am sorry I did not learn her name. We will be back!
This is my 4th time at Beatrix. Our 24 year old daughter is gluten sensitive & doesn't generally enjoy earring out. Beatrix is an exception. This time was even better than previous visits. The waiter took time to explain the great lengths that the kitchen staff goes through to assure her order is, indeed, gluten free...(gloves changed to make sure no cross contamination, all staff in kitchen aware of allergies, etc, etc) So many places have made her feel like it's not a big deal if she's given some gluten. She is not gluten free by choice. She's gets seriously ill if she ingests gluten. She's had many meals served that were supposedly gluten free & when she questioned about the ingredients was told incorrect information or it was just clear that there was no understanding of the issue. I'd rather come to Beatrix every visit to Chicago ,than take a chance anywhere else. All 4 of us had great food, delicious drinks & great wait person.
Always come for brunch - Food was outstanding, service always spot on. Found this place a few years ago and is now a favorite every time we come to Chicago
This place was loud, disorganized and the service was poor. The food did not come out as ordered and wasn’t worth what I paid.
Find another place for brunch.
Food was excellent. Wait staff was attentive, warm and friendly! The ambiance was great for friends and celebrating a birthday. The ravioli was amazing as was the meatloaf and chicken Bebe.
The place never disappoints. Great food and great service.
I have sent feedback to Beatrix in river north. I hope for their sake they will take my feedback seriously.
Overpriced for the food and portions were small on top of that. Not bad though. Just not fully worth the price. Worth going for a date but not a favorite.
Always great food and excellent service. Ingredients are top notch. I dine here often.
The staff at Beatrix River North was fantastic. Food on point, service outstanding. Don’t overlook the Pot Roast and Meatloaf, yes Meatloaf. Everything was fantastic. Turned a few locals onto this place as well. The next
Time I am in Chicago I will be back.
The only reason why I don’t give them 5 stars is because each and every time I go (with a reservation of course) I get the feeling from this hostesses that I’m a nuisance. It seems to me that they overestimate the fact that their job is to make you feel welcomed and not otherwise. Honestly, very disappointing. The rest of the service and food is just simply amazing, hence the reason why I continue to have business meals there (just less more than what I used to though, I particularly don’t enjoy being patronized by a 20 year old with a big ego).
Amazing. Best brunch in Chicago! Amazing service. Excellent food. Focused , upbeat menu.
Beatrix was amazing and we had an awesome time brunching. Very yummy healthy drinks with plenty of GF/DF options!
Was very disappointed in the brunch.
Eggs & salmon over cooked. Others in our party said food was average at best.
Been to Beatrix many times for dinner.
Skip the brunch. Not up to Lettuce standards.
The service and food were excellent as always. The atmosphere and people watching is always fun at this location. The Host Desk is fantastic. Even on a crazy Sunday they were welcoming and efficient. I had a reservation and they honored my request for a quieter table graciously and without me feeling I was hassling them. It is always a treat to come to this Beatrix.
I really liked the ambiance of Beatrix. The spare ribs dish was really good. The filet mignon was an interesting take. It tasted like a pot roast.
The hostess treated us poorly, which tarnished the experience of an otherwise nice meal. We had a reservation for 1:15 but arrived early, at 12:45. When I checked in with the hostess, if there were any tables available, and hostess said there were not, and likely wouldn't be for at least another 15 minutes. Said she'd text us when a table became available. Ok, fair enough.
While we were waiting, though, we could see a number of unoccupied tables of the right size. What was even more frustrating was that groups of the same size would come in after us without reservations and be seated right away. We waited for a half hour as more and more groups came in and were seated, and finally at 1:15, still not having received a text, I stood in line again to speak to the hostess. When I got to the front of the line at 1:18, she said, "Oh! I just sent you a text!" and we were then seated — at a table that we had seen was open for the last 15 minutes! This was extremely frustrating for us.
Food was good, though.
All of the food was amazing for brunch! Mimosas were a little off, but good for limiting yourself. Pot roast sandwich is amazing and take home a slice of caramel pie (life changing). Overall, fantastic.
Good ravioli, god service, not too loud, wine OK. Would return.
We came for lunch to celebrate a birthday and it was amazing! Without even asking the waitress brought us a piece of pie with a candle in it at the end and it was such a thoughtful touch. I had the Thai chopped salad with chicken and my friend had a sandwich. Great meal and loved the ambiance. They do get pretty busy around lunch so I would strongly suggest making a reservation!
Just awesome will be back for sure next time i am in Chicago
Food was pretty good, but still feels like a hotel restaurant. Doesn’t create its own ambience.
Really great food and ambiance. The waitstaff weren't the friendliest but got the job done. Would recommend for people looking for tasty, healthy options.
By far the best brunch I’ve had in Chicago. The lemon pancakes are so delicious and the variety of options are vast. Highly recommend.
Great place very healthy options
Average at best. Nothing special, nothing bad. I chose this restaurant based on reviews which I think were overated.
