The concise menu offers a great deal of variety for diners. We were five persons and ordered most of the dishes on the menu - all were executed very well and tasted great. The small wine list is carefully chosen and fairly priced. Our server was outstanding, we enjoyed his expert advice, easy bantering, and excellent service. Needless to say, having a fine bakery on the premises is another great dining plus. A place to return.

very surprised to learn that Runner & Stone has been right under our nose for a few years, particularly since Park Slope 'dining' has fallen to newer lows with very very few 'go-tos' or 'new & interesting'. while Gowanus is bursting at the seams with new attractive additions - ones that you'd go back to, etc. Relative to places to dine in the 'Slope', Runner & Stone would be best by a long shot. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. we will be back.

We've been coming here for a couple of years and it is consistently excellent. The bread and baked items are unreal. The pasta dishes are a perfect starter, and the entrees are delicious. We've had the fired chicken (very good and not greasy), the fish (Pollock), as well as the porkchop. We're never let down. The service is also spot on. The restaurant has a very local feel, and they take care of you. I would definitely recommend R&S.

This place is an amazing bakery but a bad restaurant. The food was way overpriced for what it was and everything was under seasoned (even the butter!). But the bread and dessert were incredible. The pasta itself alone was delicious but the chefs treatment of the pasta was gamey and poorly executed. I wish it was better!

We've been going to Runner and Stone a bunch recently and really enjoy it. It's a beautiful restaurant with a charming serving staff and delicious food. We feel so taken care of when we are here. They also bake their own bread so you will get to try their many different delightful breads. We've been here on "date night" and with our older kids who love the fried chicken. I can't resist the spicy hummus and beet salad as starters. Pasta dishes are to die for and I recently had the scallops which were sublime. There are great cocktails and wine options as well. You cannot go wrong with Runner and Stone.

Amazing meal for date night with the husband. We knew that they had a great bakery so we stuck with the crostini with mushrooms and ricotta for an appetizer and pastas for our meal. We were not disappointed. It was a cold night and we wanted to sit by the window. They were prepared with space heaters to keep us comfortable. We will be back!!

I love this place. It was so wonderful when they opened, they were the first good restaurant in Gowanus in over 20 years! Usually I have a 4-5 star experience here, but this time they squished 5 of us into a table for 4 without even placing one person at the end. It seems as though they overbooked the night we were there. Our guests (from Australia) were squashed. Runner and Stone, that's no way to treat your clientele!

A friend and I went to Runner and Stone to celebrate my birthday, and it turned out to be just the right choice. The food was thoughtful and delicious, and all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The apple cider sorbet has haunted my dreams (in a good way) ever since! What a beautiful restaurant in Gowanus! The food was absolutely phenomenal. I had a bite of gnocci which was outstanding, but my dinner was the mushroom crostini with truffle oil and roasted Brussels sprouts. I have never, ever devoured vegetables so quickly in my life! The sprouts were seriously the highlight of my meal. The crostini was fantastic also, I was just so impressed by the Brussels sprouts. the wine list was good, and I enjoyed the chardonnay that I had. It's un-oaked, so not as heavy/buttery as a typical Chardonnay. It was a nice summer wine and a good break from my usual Sauvignon Blanc. The service was excellent from the waiter, to the bartender to the manager (Julio) who introduced himself at the end of our meal. I will most definitely be back.

What they do best is baked goods. The bread, pretzel, and cheesecake were a hit. The rest of the food was under-seasoned and the grilled fish was overcooked. It's a pretty place, but the food needs some tweaking to bring it up to the level of the baked goods. Very good service.

We came to Runner and Stone on a recommendation from friends. It was my husband's birthday and we were gathering a few couples to celebrate. The setting is perfect. The light, the decor and the seating on multiple levels is eye candy. The server was amiable and a true gem. He explained the menu, which had some ingredients we weren't familiar with. He was honest and we had a good time with him. The dinner was the best meal I have had and the blueberry cobbler for dessert is beyond compare. We dined on the fried chicken, chicken liver pate, the steak, a pasta and the brussel sprouts. We finished everything and shared each others plates, because of the oooohs and aaaahs coming out of everyone's mouths after tasting the food. Love this place. Will return.

It was a Friday night, and although it was a cool summer evening, conditions at Runner & Stone approximated the Black Hole of Calcutta. When I asked the server if the a/c was broken, he said it was working. Conditions and service only got worse when dozens of twenty-somethings crowded the bar, which we were seated next to. The noise, the heat, and the lack of ventilation were so unbearable that we left before ordering dessert, and I had to get up and find the server to get the check. The food was expensive and portions were small. The menu was nothing special. The best thing about Runner & Stone was the bread, but our experience was so unpleasant that we won't be going back and can't recommend it.

Menu was interesting and the food was good. I had their market salad with Sunchokes. The dressing was delicious. For my main I had the nettle gnocchi. It was also delicious and I appreciated that you could order all the pastas in small portions. The only downside of our evening was that it was a hot night and there was no air conditioning or open windows so it was a bit uncomfortable. I am always cold and hate blasted air conditioning so for me to make this comment, it was pretty hot. I would definitely return on a cooler evening.

This is one of our favorite spots in Gowanus, now that The Pines has closed. The food is very good and the atmosphere is fit for foodies looking for quiet conversation over wonderful food & drink. It's their homemade pastas that make this place unique, and I would have liked the staff to engage us in a discussion about the home made pastas a bit more deeply. They sent over a complimentary amuse bouche--an herbed puffed pastry--which was a bit disappointing because it was stone-cold upon arrival. Had it gone from oven to table I imagine it would have brought out the butter, savory herbs and flakiness of the pastry which would have made a more favorable impression. After a few delicious appetizers, my husband had the Spelt Gemelli and I had the Nettle Gnocchi. Both superb.

This was our first trip to Runner and Stone. It was a last-minute unexpected dinner out on a weeknight. The meal was overall excellent! Seasonal ingredients, interesting choices, and wonderful flavor. They are known for baking their own breads, and these were terrific, too. Its a small, pretty restaurant in a rapidly changing Gowanus, and the staff were very friendly. We will be returning, hopefully to try Brunch some time soon.

Loved this place when it opened, but very disappointed with my recent meal. The portions were small, especially for the price, the drinks uneven, and the food was adequate... but before it had been very good. I wonder if it's a new chef? My pork belly seemed a bit burned on the top and the sauce it was sitting on was kind of like cocktail sauce. Hopefully it will find it's mojo again.
