Located in the heart of San Francisco, Hakashi Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill is a chef driven restaurant that is committed to only using the finest and seasonal fish, vegetables, rice and ‘made from scratch’ sauces.

Our cuisine is simple and delicate. Our Chef, Julio, learned from his master, Norihiko Suzuki, from Fukushima Japan. Chef Julio is excellent at inspiring and hand crafting every dish from Omakese to Nigiri to Sashimi. He is also great at customizing arrangements for special occasions to achieve something that is truly a reflection of honoring the traditional Japanese Cuisine.

Chef Julio, Chef Abel and their full team created an incredible dining experience!!! The omakase chef’s selection was better than equivalents at a michelin star restaurant and at 1/4 the price. We loved the innovative combination of techniques and combinations of flavors, textures, and temperatures w some pieces slightly seared to bring-out unique flavors. This is a hidden gem that you must try! And, don’t order from the menu. It doesn’t do the plates justice. Sit at the bar and Ask for chef’s selection!!! ***& Bonus you can also ask for amazing Sake pairings! *** also if you want to try a suuuper special dish ask for the Sea Urchin/caviar/japanese mint bloom/roe surprise with gold-lead flakes! The mintflower on top was my fave part, adding an unexpected delicious twist to the combo. Lastly beyond the amazing food, we got super lucky and happened to sit next to Chef Julio at the bar. His warm & welcoming personality combined with storytelling of every fish we tried and the Hakashi concept made it an unforgettable night. We live in Seattle but this has become a destination every time we are in the SFO area. Gracias ~ Arigato ~ Thank You Hakashi!

Very nice neighborhood japanese place- we got their at 6:15 pm with a reservation for 5 people on a Friday night and it was almost full when we checked in- as we ate a line formed to eat so make a reservation if you can or eat at the sushi bar for walk ins- delicious fresh sushi and the chicken teriyaki and salmon teriyaki were fantastic- super fresh, nice presentation and they came with miso soup and a wonderful salad. Wiuld definelty go back again - a total find in the SOMA neighborhood!

Great food at fair prices (for SF). Service was also good. However, it felt like they were kicking us out around 9pm although their opening hours are until 10pm.

Good , clean and fresh sushi !! Had a great time , the place is small but tables and seating is done just right to give you a nice cozy feel.. definitely worth checking out if you are in the Bay Area
