Opened in 1996 by Pittsburgh native Ron Molinaro, Il Pizzaiolo started with a simple credo: create Neapolitan pizza using old-world techniques and the highest-quality ingredients available. Since then, the restaurant has become a vibrant gathering place for lovers of Neapolitan pizza, pasta and Italian wine. Nearly everything on the menu is hand-made. And if it’s not made in-house, it’s imported from the best artisans, cheese-makers and salumeria in the world. Mozzarella di Bufala comes direct from Naples every Thursday and the pizzas are baked at 1000˚ in a handcrafted, wood-fired brick oven for less than 90 seconds. This, along with perfectly leavened dough, San Marzano tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil, produces the most authentic Neapolitan pizza possible.

This was the first time I have ever been seated in the back room. It was sweltering hot and the noise level was off the charts. We had to scream to hear each other. The food was excellent, however I will make sure never to sit in that room again.

My entire family loves this restaurant's pizza, salad and pasta, but the noise level in both dining rooms is a negative. Everyone must shout to have their voices heard, resulting in an escalating cacophony, which is not conducive to conversation. The restaurant's best dining experience is on the back patio among the plants and fountains - so charming. There is no noise and the food, with all the ingredients straight from Italy, is just perfect. The tomato sauces on the pizza and pastas are to die for.

Food was very good and always fresh ingredients. Recommend the cheese platter appetizer, pizza anf the eggplant parm. Tables are to close and the waite staff makes you feel rushed. Wine prices are high.

It was a busy Saturday so they must be doing something right. I had eaten there before and I was taking the family there for a special occasion. The two experiences were definitely not the same. The noise level upstairs was very high; so much so that we had a difficult time hearing the waitress. My entree was good, the appetizer was nice but the little things regarding service just weren't there. The waitress was relying on her memory which, based on our experience, she shouldn't do. So if you can find a quiet night to go I would say go, but for us and the drive to reach the place It is not likely to be a repeater.

The food is great and service is also good. However the acoustics are not good which makes the noise level very high. This was one of the loudest restaurants in which I've ever eaten. However if you're not looking for a quiet dinner then the restaurant is otherwise great.

Plan ahead and make a reservation - but it is well worth it. Homemade Italian - nothing better. The chicken Marsala was absolutely amazing, the tiramisu was Amaaaazing according to my son, and the espresso was wonderful. The only negative was that the wine pour was very small - had I known I would've ordered a bottle. Overall wonderful - I can't wait for the Warrendale location to open!

Food was delicious. The restaurant was very loud and packed but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing, everyone just seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were seated pretty close and still had to talk loudly.

The food was incredible. Really. The marinara sauce tasted just like my Italian Grandmother's sauce. The service was amazing. The only issue was the noise level. My husband and I were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and could barely hear each other. It was so loud!

Il Pizzaiolo never disappoints! I was fairly worried this time since we had a rather large party, but we were seated in the Wine Bar and had plenty of room. The food was delicious as always: the table shared numerous different pizzas, pastas and salads, each one as fantastic as the next. Because both buildings of the restaurant are smaller, it is pretty loud inside. But having to shout a little is well worth it when looking at the wait staff, food and wine list. Keep up the great work! We already have another reservation booked and we're so looking forward to it!

I'm a dough fanatic and this is the best VPN pie I have had. We shared a margherita DOC and a quattro fromaggi. Both were excellent. The vegetable antipasto (antipasto Napoli) was very good as well. There was a little too much orange zest in the cannoli cream, otherwise the desert was delightful, too. Service was excellent. Be aware that this is a popular restaurant. The room is small and very noisy.

Il Pizziolo is my favorite Pittsburgh restaurant, and they did not disappoint this time! We went there for my birthday and I got my usual - the prosciutto y arugula pizza. It is my favorite pizza in the U.S.! I had this same pizza In Italy and so I can vouch for the fact that this is authentic Italian! The Italian wine complimented the pizza nicely . And the topper is the courtyard. Usually when you sit outside at a restaurant in Pittsburgh you're outside on the street, but here you are in a cozy courtyard with twinkle lights on the trees. Awesome!

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service we received this week. We had heard some negative comments from friends. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Food was outstanding. Great wine list. Sat outside so that made the night even better. It was good to have a very positive experience here

This was my second time there, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The margherita DOC pizza is unlike any I've ever had. The restaurant was very clean and nice, and our waiter was a very friendly, polite, helpful guy.

The noise level in this restaurant makes it near impossible for you to have a normal conversation with someone without screaming. This is mostly due to the poor interior design. The service was subpar. We asked for a table outside for our reservation but were seated inside when we got there and told we would have to wait to sit outside even though they approved our initial request. The food was very good but some of the flavors were over-saturated. Simple fixes could be made to improve everyone's experience here but until they are made, I will not return.

We had 3 adults in our party. Each of us ordered a pizza (which was no more than the size of a pizza hut individual pizza), and a beer. Our total bill was over $70 before tip!!!! Seriously????? Was the pizza good? Yes. Was it worth $18-$20 apiece absolutely not. As far as ambience... the restaurant was so noisy we couldn't carry on a conversation. I would never recommend this place to a friend.

We had not been to the Mt. Lebanon Il Pizzaiolo in years. I had been encouraging my wife to return because she loved the Penne with Vodka sauce. So we came here for her birthday. Her meal in particular was disappointing. Although the penne is a signature dish, they no longer make it with vodka and it tasted bland. As a result she is not likely to return. My pizza (prosciutto and arugula) was good although for some reason the crust downtown seemed better. The service was a little slow particularly considering that the place was not crowded. I'll have to stick to the Market Square location.

My family has dined at Pizziaolo loyally since it's opening. Unfortunately, the menu continues to change and the service suffers. An outdoor or upstairs seating was requested. When we arrived, the hostess didn't think our request could be accommodated. A more experienced hostess stepped in and found immediate seating in the upstairs - there were several un-occupied tables there. We waited a good bit before drink were ordered and water glasses were filled. The once ample selections of the menu have been pared down. No fish entree. Although our starters (caprese salad, and mixta) were perfect, the eggplant rigatoni was completely tasteless (canned tomatoes with NO seasoning). We will return because we have enjoyed pizzaiolo over the years - we just wish it hadn't become so expensive and so spotty in performance and service...

Love coming here in the summer and sitting on patio. Feels a little like being n Italy with the green garden and fountain. The brick oven pizza never disappoints. I would say that wine is expensive by the glass. Best to order a bottle.

Great food, but SO, SO, SO LOUD!! We enjoyed our dinner, wedding soup, Caesar salad, lasagne, Milanese- all very good. Unfortunately, it was loud when we walked in for our reservation and the noise level continued to increase while we were there.They told us that the patio was closed- the patio was our main reason to visit. We were bummed, but stayed and dined in the main dining room instead. Now, we are not old- early We frequent restaurants and, in fact, my husband is a chef. We were not looking for tranquil. 30s each, but the noise level was unbearable. It was abnormally loud. It was not a young crowd, a good mix. We became so agitated by the time we got our meals that we could not wait to leave. We had never dined inside of the restaurant and will never again. Such a nice place.

Fabulous meal....authentic and classic. Menu wasn't as extensive as what was presented online via Open Table, but everything we had was perfectly prepared. Service was professional and helpful. Would go back again if traveling to Pittsburgh.

We ordered something the waiter recommended and it was very sad display of the item and it was not good. The salad was great but the pizza/calzone combo was awful! I wouldn't recommend getting that. When the waiter asked how did we like his recommendation and we told him we didn't he pretty much walked away not saying anything. The ambience was nice but the food was disappointing.

Always love coming here; however this time not too memorable. Reservation was not ready at time even though there were many empty tables and watched a few people walk in after the two of us and be seated. When seated we were at table right by door which called for a lot of traffic. Service was outstanding, however. I ordered the marinara pizza which had entirely too much sauce. Since it has no cheese the crust is very thin but i had to spoon sauce off. Otherwise the pizza would be drenched.

We were sat in the front part of the restaurant. it was so crowded and loud and noisy we barely could hear each other. The server was absolutely wonderful! very attentive! very good explaining things! he did great! I may of sat in the back section in the other house/part. previously. Though this time if i had to sit in the front i probably wouldn’t return. not the environment we were looking for also no kids menu. though the server did really help on making the pizza the way a child would eat. As always their food is great!!!

We have eaten here numerous times as a couple and group. This was a pre-half marathon carb load, so we were there early. Lots of families with kids, so if you don't want that. come later. Good service although it took a while for our main courses to come out. Our server was great about keeping a full bottle of water on our table at all times so we could get plenty of hydration. As usual, the pizzas, salads and pasta are all top notch. Interesting wine list, ask for help if you don't know Italian wines.
