   Chalkboard is comfortable, casual & cozy, lovely california cuisine, fresh bright offerings. We really enjoyed the specialty cocktails. We celebrated joint birthdays & were well taken care of. Highly recommend.

   Dinner was great as well as service. We shared the pork belly biscuits(very tasty) seafood risotto and the braised short ribs. Risotto needed some salt and was kinda mushy but I’m not a big fan of risotto so not sure I’m the best to review. Short ribs were tender and full of flavor but it came out kinda cold. For dessert we got the trio of ice cream; the chocolate cherry and the nougat were amazing the peanut butter was a bit grainy but flavor was good. Overall would go back.

   I’ve been to chalkboard many times, though not for the last few years, and I fear the quality has gone down quite a bit. A few items we ordered were outstanding, the rest was pretty underwhelming. Service was very slow, our plates were dirty before we used them and we had to ask for replacements. Overall, disappointing experience. I won’t be going back for quite a while.

   Visiting Healdsburg at least once every year for over 15 years we can say without any hesitation that the food at Chalkboard was the worst. Polenta was not seasoned, ribs lacked flavor, pasta was pathetic. Tiramisu was too dense and dry. There is not much positive to write down. Stay away from Chalkboard !!!!

   Got the $36 steak with potatoes. Steak was overcooked. Portions were small. Everything else was ok. Waiter was a bit odd. Would not recommend this restaurant Also the beer was only in cans and very limited RW. San Rafael

   Overall, our experience was good. Service was great. Ambience was good, but the porch light strings seem to be a hazard, and the warming fans (great to have) were very close to coats and also seemed like a hazard. Maybe a few oscillating heaters would be a better option so close to clothing? Our seafood risotto was very salty and the shrimp and pasta was both plain and skimpy on small shrimp. My coq au vin looked very dried out, but it was tasty. Your beet salad was excellent. We also had two poached apples, but it seemed like it was only a few slices of apple, not even half an apple. Overall, our experience was good, but for the price, not overwhelmed by the quality. We had a great time, though. Thanks for reading. We love coming to Healdsburg and are Chalk Hill members, so hoping to return soon. Maybe it was just an off night for a Saturday. Harper Wong

   The four of us in our party were a little disappointed in the food at Chalk Board. We've been to Healdsburg many times and enjoyed many of the good restaurants around town and thought we'd try something new. Although the ambiance was good and the service very nice, the meals we ordered left a little to be desired. Three of us had the Halibut and none of us would order it again. It was lacking on flavor , even with the hollandaise on top. The other in the party ordered the Chicken and it was average, though on the menu it sounded very tasty.

    I am so happy that the gals at Optima Winery recommended this amazing restaurant. We started with one of their signature cocktails, the Baby Bailey. Absolute perfection in a glass. By far the BEST cocktail we have out at a restaurant in years. The bartender, Aaron, was upbeat and personable and made our experience wonderful. Megan K, our server, was fantastic too! She was cheerful and knowledgeable of all of the items on the menu. Megan made some excellent recommendations that we ended up ordering. Our favorite starter was the pork belly biscuits. DELICIOUS! Our favorite entree was the seafood risotto. The dish was packed with shrimp and had phenomenal flavor. We will definitely be back soon!

    We had an excellent meal at Chalkboard and thoroughly enjoyed Chef Hugh Dyer's innovative and exquisitely executed menu. In particular, we started with a special raw scallop appetizer and the Pork Belly Biscuits, then moved on to a savory French Onion Soup and New England Clam Chowder. For our main course we had the Porcini Gigli and the Rigitoni with Octopus. Both entrees were delicious, balanced, and perfectly sized. The rigitoni had been freshly made by Chef Hugh that afternoon. For dessert we shared the Maple Cream Brulee and a sampling of Hugh's freshly made ice creams. All of the dishes felt embued with a genuine love of the ingredients being skillfully combined. The atmosphere of the Chalkboard was relaxed, comfortable, and amiable. The noise level was low enough to support enjoyable conversation. All in all, a delightful experience. Highly recommended.

    We were surprised to be so disappointed by our experience at Chalk Board. All the reviews were so positive! Yet our food experience was not good. The Crudo featured hamachi. The fish had great flavor but it was overpowered by the large French fry-cut apple slaw. And there was so much apple slaw that one would think it was the feature of the dish rather than the fish. Okay, that’s not so bad. What’s next? The French onion soup. Oye! All I tasted was vinegar. Just a forward acidic flavor, and that’s it. No depth. Did the head chef taste taste this soup? I can’t believe it passed muster. My pork chop entree was over cooked so it was dry and chewy, and I didn’t even detect salt and pepper seasoning. I sent it back. My boyfriends seafood risotto tasted strangely sweet. Then he told me the menu listed relish as an ingredient. Why would anyone do that? And the scallop on top was over cooked and chewy. He sent it back. The server and manager were extremely gracious and apologetic, and took all the food off the bill, which was great. I just can’t believe that our experience was unique when everything was SO off.

    Food was ok, was expecting better from the reviews online. Tried the pork belly biscuits, they had an off flavor and biscuit was dry. The pork chop was dry and the pasta with duck confit wasn't impressive. The best thing was the side of Brussel sprouts, but even they seemed oily. Thankfully we had a decent old fashioned to wash it down. Disappointing birthday dinner celebration.

    Really enjoyed the crudo of the day , kumquat & celery root salad, fried chicken and pasta. The one pretty big mistake, in my opinion, was that they brought out my husband's entree while he was still finishing the salad and I had to wait for my entree for several minutes. Someone wasn't paying attention. Will give it another try since the food was so good.

    All of the dishes we ordered were very well prepared and delicious. The menu provided a great selection and variety to choose from. The service was good overall but there were times when we did not see the waitress for an unexpectedly long time.

    We had high hopes for our dinner, but it was such a disappointment. I wanted to start with the onion soup, but when it arrived, the cheese wasn’t even melted so I just canceled I should’ve known that we wouldn’t be happy with what came next The pasta was al dente, but the sauce lacked any characteristics that would make it memorable. We started with the sliders, which were very tasty, and the fried chicken was delicious as was the slaw, but when balanced against the pasta’s, the overall impression about dinner was less than positive.

    Lovely staff, attentive and extremely prompt service. But we really didn’t think any of the meals were special for the price - fried chicken, pasta and fish - and to be honest I thought the addition of lemon to the pasta made the dish too tart.

    The service was fantastic but the food was extremely underwhelming and lacking in flavor. The $12 small cup of French onion soup was extra small; the halibut was flavorless and the hollandaise was literally an egg yolk; the cassoulet was also void of flavor and the duck confit was super dry. The drinks were acceptable and the one we didn’t like they switched out.

    Very pretty spot, great bar and cocktails. Our server at the table was so so. We observed other table a with bread and butter, we weren’t offered any. We shared 2 pasta dishes, very good but it needed pepper which we requested. The pepper mill was dropped off at our table. Not great service for the prices.

    Inedible food was served to us on New Year’s Day. This was surprising and disappointing coming from a kitchen that has always served delicious food. The undercooked dough on the $15 sticky bun was drenched in a sugar/butter mixture that was barely heated through. It certainly wasn’t caramel. My roast pork hash ($30) was cold, bland and sat in a pool of grease. My husband’s eggs Benedict was the worst dish of the three. Slim disks of mushy dough were topped with shaved Canadian bacon and topped with an ice-cold poached egg. The watery Hollandaise ran over the top of this mess. Every component of his dish was either cold or room temperature. It seemed very clear that the elements of our dishes were made ahead and someone was supposed to warm them up. Yuck! How can this come from the same kitchen that normally servers fluffy biscuits with pork belly, perfectly seasoned fried chicken and the best desserts in town? On the plus side, our server comped our mostly uneaten meal when we explained that there were serious problems with the quality/preparation of the food. However, it was obvious that no one was paying attention in the kitchen and the experience overall was disappointing.

    Food was not hot and very bland. Server seemed very inexperienced. Restaurant charges a whopping 24% gratuity! I did not see this until the bill came. Maybe it was posted somewhere but I didn’t see it. They did try and make it right but it was still very pricey and very mediocre. We used to love this place but we won’t be going back anytime soon.

    Service was prompt and attentive. Recommendation on “small plate” format ordering was appreciated. Pasta dishes perfectly al dente and wonderful flavor combinations. Beautiful room adjacent to a boutique hotel.
