The Freelance Café & Wine Bar is of the one of the founding restaurants of Piermont’s now bountiful selection of eclectic spots to wine and dine in this historic and charming village by the Hudson River.

The Freelance menu offerings consist of Small Plates, Large Plates, and Daily Specials. The menu remains a touchstone for Modern American Cuisine as informed and inspired by the French Bistro, the Italian Trattoria, the Japanese Izakaya and ever more tastefully global inspiration. We offer a long list of favorite dishes whether that’s French Onion Soup, Thai Pasta, Braised Short Ribs or Classic Crème Brulee, as well as an inspiring selection of wines by the glass or bottle. Freelance While a myriad of restaurants are located in picturesque Piermont, (a lovely Hudson River town) Freelance sets the bar high, so much so that we return again and again. Freelance serves consistently delicious food by a very attentive, hospitable, and warm staff. (Extra special kudos to the truly accommodating, affable, warm and attentive Joe and Omid who elevate the dining experience to something very special.) While Freelance is quite small, the consistently excellent food and service elevate Freelance to our favorite restaurant in all of Piermont and Nyack. Even though Freelance is tiny, the ambiance is uncluttered, pleasant and inviting. Daily specials are offered in addition to the already appealing menu. The appetizers (small plates) include tasty coconut shrimp, Caesar salad, wedge salad and butter lettuce salad. The salads are fresh and perfectly dressed with homemade dressings. (Last night we opted for the special beet salad with pistachios and feta cheese, YUMMY!) The coconut shrimp is also tasty. We have also enjoyed the delicious composed entrees (large plates) including the NY strip steak with fries (outstanding), swordfish, shrimp pesto, salmon and crispy chicken with Brie over spinach. The entrees are perfectly cooked to order, accompanied by a fresh, green, in season vegetable (spinach, green beans or snow peas) and rice or potato. (Last night we opted for the filet mignon with shrimp special which was served with delicious frites and sautéed spinach…YUMMY again.) Each entree is so well executed, with attention to detail, and prepared exactly as requested. The homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream is the perfect end to an already wonderful meal and the deconstructed sundae with sorbet and ice cream is a culinary winner! With such hospitable service and scrumptious cuisine, Freelance is a cozy spot for an utterly enjoyable evening!

We had a wonderful meal and dining experience. The wine list was extensive and reasonably priced. The drinks were made perfectly. The duck special was crisp but moist at the same time. We all enjoyed our meals. After such a wonderful experience, we were somewhat taken aback when at the end - we were celebrating a birthday but were not interested in having dessert - the server brought out a small scoop of sorbet with a candle - not an unusual occurrence when you are dining and are celebrating a birthday, one would say. The unusual occurrence is that when we were presented with our bill, which was not insignificant, we were charged for a dessert that we did not order! I honestly cannot say that I have ever had this happen at a restaurant. Changed the dynamic of the evening - not the cost, but the poor gesture.

Lovely lunch at Freelance. Burrata, Soft-shell crab and shrimp piccata entrees were delicious. Topped off with chocolate soufflé cake. Freelance never disappoints.

Very inattentive front of the house and rude employees!!!!! Horrible service/terrible food !!!! What a shame!!! This place was great back in the day when it was owed by Peter Kelly !!! Unfortunately the new “management “ have ruined this business…..

Been dining with Joe and the best crew going for years . It is by far out most favorite restaurant in Rockland county. Whatever you choose on the menu believe me you will not be disappointed. The drinks are a full glass of and the wine list is tops. Please give it a try and tell the staff how much you enjoyed your meal. They love to hear that. Anthoby & Janet

Excellent service and food. Tables a bit small and can get crowded easily. Overall very delicious in a charming location.
