Steakhouse
Costata, which was opened by Chef Michael White - a James Beard award winner - in the trendy SoHo neighborhood, is a specialty Italian steakhouse. Priding itself in excellence is a top priority for Costata, and they only hire the most impressive talents, from its chefs to its regional managers. Hospitality is as much a part of Costata as is its food, and it desires to provide an overall experience, not simply a mere dining pleasure. When dining at Costata, start with the Heirloom Tomato Salad with Stracciatella Cheese, bail and pesto. Next, order the Tomahawk Ribeye for two or the Pasta Fusilli, and end the meal with the delicately sweet Torta di Olo - pineapple coconut dessert cake.

Costata had the best steak I've ever eaten. Too bad it's now closed. The restaurant itself was sort of sterile. Not a fun place to go... but the 40oz bone-in ribeye was the only steak better than Luger's in NYC.

I was visiting NY for the weekend from Washington DC. I would return to this restaurant. It's location across from the subway is very convenient if you want to have dinner before an event. We ordered the ribeye and filet mignon. Both cuts of meat were excellent, seasoned and done perfectly. The wait staff was very attentive. The wine list is a little pricey. Even if you bring your own bottle, the corkage fee is $50.

Took a good client to Costata for dinner. Arrived on the early side for NYC (client preference), so it was fairly quiet and not too crowded for the first half of our meal. The scene definitely picked up by the time we departed, maybe 2.5 hours later. Excellent wine list, not grossly overpriced, and a wine steward who was happy to assist. Food was outstanding, including the steaks, but the starters and pasta dishes really stood out. Costata definitely earned a spot in the rotation when in SoHo.

the cocktails we ordered were great my old fashioned in particular was very good! We jumped straight to mains, the tortelli pasta with cacio e pepe sauce and short rib filling was soo tasty. The ribeye was cooked to perfection! we ordered sides, initially was going to order fries but our waiter persuaded us to try the crispy red bliss, which are small potatoes squashed (with skin on) with garlic, rosemary and chilli flake....they were amazing! i would visit again, this time though i'd try the tomahawk!

I have been to a number of Michael White restaurants and they never disappoint, Costata was on par if not better than his other restaurants. I absolutely LOVED the food, everything was on point and I am a VERY picky eater. The wait staff was incredible and the wines were very unique. My only complaint was that we sat next to the wine fridge which was cold and made noise, we could have asked to change tables but didn't want to even bother, but if anyone from Costata reads this, I suggest this be the last table you ever sit people in. I highly recommend the restaurant and am looking forward to going back - and having that halibut again!

The food was really good but we found the service to be excellent. The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We found the steak filet to be even better than the ribeye! The noise level was perfect and the music was good. Our desserts were forgotten but the staff thoroughly made up for it but not charging us and offering to wrap up a few desserts. The creamy spinach and the artichoke sides were wonderful. We'd definitely recommend, especially for a special-occasion dinner.

Second time I have been here and first for dinner. This is quickly becoming one of my go to restaurants. The wine program is outstanding with a thorough and thoughtful list and some great cocktail and beer offerings as well also a place for digestive lovers. I am still torn on whether I like the fusilli here better than the one at Marea but on thing is sure Chef white is the master of this pasta. We had three different Pastas to share and two large steaks. A tremendous meal and great experience.

We chose Costata for our 35 th Wedding Anniversary based on our excellent experience with Michael White's Marea. The ambience was depressing. Wooden tables without tablecloths and dark abstract paintings and poor lighting made for an uncomfortable experience . The wait staff were distant . My wife had to ask for bread at the end of the meal and it was dry and with little taste. The cocktails and salads were excellent. My wife enjoyed her pasta, but I thought my branzino was average . We did have a great flight of Amari. We will not be return nor will we venture outside Marea for a Michael White restaurant .

The service here was excellent which stood out to me. The food was very good. The bread they served was good but the spread was too salty for both of us. We split one of their pastas for an appetizer and it was delicious. Pasta serving was not large, so it would be too small for an entrée for a big eater. For the main course my wife ordered the filet mignon and I had the strip, both were very good as were the steak sauces we chose. On the side we had the artichoke which was different. We finished with the gelato which was fantastic. I would go here again.

Went with my family and it was a ghost town. My steak was extremely off in temperature, ordered it medium and it was rare, I guess if the kitchen is going to miss! This is the way to do it so they can put it back on the grill. Anyway, I left unimpressed and that is unfortunate.
