The Saddle River Inn
Friday - Saturday 5pm - 10:00 pm
Wonderful experience as always. Saddle River Inn never disappoints and makes even the toughest critics happy.
Service deteriorated, very slow with menus and taking order 30 minutes. We had to ask for water. Steak tartare not seasoned properly. The fish was also ok but not great.
Amazing food. The best. Rather small dining area. Cozy but LOUD. Perhaps it was where we were seated but I heard everything but my companion. Our server Andrew was terrific, as were the entire staff. We will look forward to our next visit.
Great food, waiter Nick was excellent, never had anything but a great experience here.
Romantic atmosphere and very unique! Prices extremely high but worth it for special occasion.
Despite the fact that it was a week night and we had a reservation for a specific time they wouldn't seat my wife and me until the rest of our party showed up, which was downright unfriendly for a place that purports to operate at their price level. The physical seats themselves are uncomfortable. The menu is stodgy and not very creative. Appetizers, salads, and sides were overpriced (and at their prices we shouldn't have to pay extra for sides anyway). Entree portions are skimpy (and while my friend got three lamb chops on her plate I only got two (!) smallish venison chops on mine--and why does the venison come from New Zealand, anyway?). But the most annoying thing to me, even though it may seem on the less important side, is that the bread server only served each person a half a slice of bread and never came back!!! I mean, how chintzy can you get. All in all, the champagne I brought (BYOB) was great (Veuve Clicquot) and the company (our friends) and occasion (wedding anniversary) were copacetic, but all in all at the prices charged the SRI is nothing to write home about.
The Saddle River Inn was excellent. From start to finish - the host, the servers, the ambiance, the meal - everything was 1st class
Always a pleasure to go here. Food is delicious and the service is always perfect!
Absolutely brilliant on all levels.
Nothing else to say other than incredible. The truffle risotto is the most incredibly taste imaginable. The SRI really gets it right!
Always amazing. Never disappoints. The food is fantastic. The atmosphere is wonderful. The worst thing about the restaurant is trying to get a reservation. Otherwise an amazing experience, always.
outstanding service and wonderfully delicious cuisine
It makes you feel as if you are in New England on a crisp Fall evening. The ambience is wonderful, the food delicious and the menu very diverse and creative.
Thoroughly enjoyed being there with friends.
Everything was lovely!
The food is fantastic. I recommend the tasting menu. Service was average. We waited longer than I would have liked to place our order and receive bread. The waiting area is poor. Simply not enough room for all of the people. Given the restaurant’s popularity, one would think they could afford to expand the wIting area. We waited 10 minutes just to check in
We dined here to celebrate my husband’s 50th and my son’s 15th birthday. I had mentioned it at the time of reservations an then again when they confirmed the day before.
Upon arrival it was very crowded and the gentleman checking us in seemed a bit stressed. We waited about 10 min for our table. The restaurant is beautiful but very loud - the four is us could hardly hear each other.
We took wine and were sitting for at least 15 min and our waiter was not serving our wine. I had to grab another waiter to remind ours to serve the wine. We had already discussed with him to decant our bottle but he totally forgot.
The quality of the food was very good overall. Out of the three different main dishes the duck and the steak were amazing, however, the venison had a sauce that was a bit too sweet.
We finished our dessert and the birthdays were never acknowledged. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with this place. The service is definitely not at the level it used to be and for the cost I expect a lot more. Would we return? Probably not.
Outstanding. Thanks to Jamie and his staff for taking care of us! The service and food is why this place is a top restaurant in NJ.
Everything was perfect except our table was not ready until 30 minutes after our reservation
One of the best restaurants in NJ . First rate service & food, and a BYOB. Ends up being a bargain
Honestly...super disappointed. I've heard how great Saddle River Inn is since I moved here from Manhattan. We've put off going until a special occasion. So, our first wedding anniversary after 5 years of living in Bergen County seemed like a good time to celebrate.
We opted for the tasting menu. Everyone was very friendly upon seating and greeting. And that's about when service fizzled out.
We didn't get bread until after our second salad.
BTW, we did the tasting menu of 5 courses and we got two salads (kale Caesar for hubby, a nice fruity salad for me. This was the best course).
No bread, but tables around us got it.
Next, a twist on a wedge salad for me-which involved truffles even though I said I wasn't fond of them, and a fine but overly chilled lobster crostini for my hubby.
It was around here that I started noticing serious service flaws. We still had no bread, our water glasses were empty for at least 10 minutes, at this point.
Third course- lackluster bronzino with sad artichokes and simple black lentils/perfectly fine shrimp with a cauliflower puree. Nothing special.
***Still no water.
Entree- ONE venison rib chop. I gave it to my hubby bc he loves venison and I took the very well cooked and succulent pork with sweet potatoes and really amazing red cabbage.
Dessert- not good. The cheesecake was fine. It was a Nutella cheesecake that was good in texture but low on flavor.
My dessert was a molten chocolate cake that was so insipidly sweet that it was almost inedible. It wasn't helped by an almond swirl gelato/ice cream that had so much almond flavoring that it made my mouth ache. Desserts were really not good.
This was our second time at the Saddle River Inn and the food is just amazing. Service is second to none. I highly recommend! Two thumbs up to Chef Knott and his staff!
Way exceeded any expectation, truly an experience
The food is good, but it did not live up to its billing for me. For the price and exclusivity, I was expecting more.
Fantastic food and great service.
Best restaurant in Bergen County and rivals the best restaurants in Manhattan!
The only thing we didn’t like was the vegetable ( Brüssel sprouts and asparagus)... tasted sugary and burnt. Otherwise all was great and will return. Just won’t order veggies any more....
Our favorite restaurant in Northern New jersey. Just wish we could get in more often, very popular. Great food, excellent service, byob. Can't beat it.
Great as always. Service is amazing and the food is fantastic.
So very delicious! Everything was perfect, food, service, ambience, everything!
The ambiance, the excellent service and creative entrees and presentations makes for a perfect evening.
The food as usual is excellent, been dining at Saddle River since 2001. This used to be a Romantic exclusive classy restaurant with your typical French countryside ambience (decorated accordingly) and Jacket only attire, unfortunately not anymore. The noise level was ridiculous with patrons allowed to be way too loud an inconsiderate to fellow diners. Service is normally good, but was disappointed that the waiter forgot even after it was mentioned this was a Birthday occasion.
The Saddle River Inn was exceptional as always! Highly recommend!
Excellent meal, great service and great atmosphere!
As always, an absolutely wonderful dining experience.
I was there recently with a bunch of guys and it was a nice leisurely dinner. We spent about 2.5 hours there. This time, with my wife, our appetizers came about 5 minutes after they were ordered and our dinner came 30 minutes from the time we arrived at the restaurant. We had dessert but were out of the restaurant in 1.25 hours. Although it was a Wednesday they were nearly filled when we left and we got the sense that they wanted to turn the table quickly. Our waiter and the various servers all adhered to a well-rehearsed script which obviously came across as uncaring. Even worse, whenever one of them stopped at the table to see how we were doing, they had already begun leaving before they finished talking. In other words, they really were not interested in us or our answer but were told be management to ask. Foodwise it was OK. My spicy noodle appetizer tasted good but it was far oilier than it was at my last visit. My pork chop was pretty bland. Despite rushing our dinners out, my wife's fish was served barely warm. She had to return it to reheat. We won't be coming back too soon.
Food was fabulous. I had the crab salad for an appetizer and it had large pieces of crab, he’d the sea bass for dinner and it just melted in my mouth
My husband had the steak and it was delicious
Truffle fries were best I’ve ever had
Have not been to the restaurant since the ownership changed. We always loved the food and service but dreaded the interaction at the front door. Once you got seated it was awesome.
Our recent visit was like a breathe of fresh air. The host could not have been more friendly and accommodating , obviously going out of his way to facilitate a great experience.
Food and service where very good as expected.
I will be returning soon and often
Food was amazing, atmosphere was amazing .. Service was clunky but still good
wait staff confused who ordered what when they dropped off apps and dinner. also they attempted to remove appetizer plates while we were still eating and we’re not to attentive to wine refills. Even with these small issues, I would highly recommend this place.
Saddle River inn, is a restaurant with top rate service and outstanding food. It is hard to make reservation but if you make one way in advance you will get in.
You can't beat fine dining that's a BYO. I wish it were easier to get Friday or Saturday reservations, however, weekdays are fine by me. We try to get to the SRI 3-4 times a year with our without friends. Service is competent. Food has always been consistently creative & tasty. I brought a sauternes to possibly have with a cheese plate for dessert and was delighted to be informed foie gras was on the menu as a starter - so that was a perfect pairing. My venison chops were delicious (the autumnal menu had just started). Hubby's lobster toast & pork chop was delicious as well. As with most fine restaurants substitutions are not welcomed - however I just did not want my brussel sprouts on my plate and served in a bowl for my bs loving husband, however, out on the plate they came to be scooped over to him. The spaetzle side dish was just OK for $10. I took the sauternes home as we opted to share a delicious caramel dessert. In summary, always a wonderful meal.
