We made our first visit to this iconic 5-star restaurant with 18 sleeping quarters in the heart of Virginia's Hunt Country, a few miles north of Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia. We were there for a wine dinner in their conservatory featuring Virginia's finest winery, Linden, and its winemaker, Jonathan Weber. The five courses were superb and well paired with the wine. The staff and service were what you would expect of the Goodstone Inn. It's a bit remote for many people (we live nearby, so it's not for us), but you cannot experience the best of Virginia and Loudoun County without a visit and/or stay at the Goodstone Inn. It is worth every penny. Their wine list and their cellar are fantastic and well-priced. Many of their ingredients are grown on premises.

Would love to tell you about our experience but unfortunately they cancelled our reservation the day before. Said they closed the restaurant in case of events. I booked the reservation more than two months ago. No excuse for waiting until the day before to tell us it was closed. We had no time or opportunity to investigate another nearby fine dining restaurant. And, by the way, there was no event in The Conservatory that night. They did rebook us in the Bistro and we told the wait staff who then told the manager. They apologized and comped us an appetizer. Handled it properly and the meal in the Bistro was fine.

The ambiance and service were both exceptional. They do a wonderful job with the acoustics too- we could hear each other perfectly but couldn’t hear the other tables nearby and overall didn’t notice a lot of background noise. My husband and I did the three course option. The tenderloin (likely around 3-4oz) was the highlight of the meal, the scallop was also delicious but was just a single scallop. I wasn’t a fan of the recommend asparagus starter- it was very heavily dressed and with the combination of a lightly poached egg was just a bit… wet… for me- that’s just a personal preference. My husband started with the carrot curry soup and enjoyed that. Overall we enjoyed the experience but felt the meal was a touch overpriced. Including a cocktail and half bottle of wine, our meal was $380 with tax/tip. Would selectively recommend.

The Mother Day Event was very well attended and executed. A limited menu, 2 course and desert. The Filet Mignon with a crab sauce was excellent. I especially liked the starter Country Terrine - delicate with lovely fresh herbs. The dessert was a chocolate mousse shaped like a 1/2 donut with a light (but delicious) sauce. Portions were just right. Life partner has a rack of lamb that was worthy of 5 stars (I was not offered a sample). Goodstone keeps getting better and the addition of Jim McGavin as mixologist is a huge win for all.

This was our first time at Goodstone in The Conservatory, and it was fantastic! The tasting menu experience is fantastic; the ability to customize to your liking was a wonderful surprise. We did 5 courses and it felt like a good amount of food for the price point and the ability to customize. Our server, Grace, was fantastic. All four of us left the restaurant feeling as though we hadn’t experienced that exceptional of service in a long time until that meal, all thanks to Grace! I gave 4 stars for value because I think the food is very appropriately priced for the quality, presentation, and portion size, and the cocktails were also standard pricing, but the wine definitely sets the budget back. We weren’t presented with a variety of price points when requesting recommendations for the wine and overall, there’s a lack of “affordable” bottles on the wine list. That being said, both bottles we got were delicious, and as long as you expect to spend $$$$ on wine, you’ll be fine!

Have not had the occasion to come here in a while. The menu has changed and so has how you can order your entrees. But the food is still exceptional, presented beautifully, by friendly and knowledgeable staff. It is a delightful venue to dine and the pricing is extremely reasonable for what you are getting.

So disappointing! I had dined here previously and was looking forward to sharing this delightful spot with my daughter. The food was just ok and the last course (tasting menu), tenderloin & salmon, were barely cooked.

Great presentation, great flavors, great service. Valentine's Day three course plus wine pairing is pricey, BUT the regular multi-course price fixe options are reasonable (i.e., not on holidays). Yum!
