This neighborhood hangout welcomes all and leaves pretension at the door. The low-key design and elevated standards of service allow the food to speak for itself, and Manager Gissele Tache and her staff are always on hand to recommend an adventurous catch, a fine bottle of wine, or a sweet after-dinner treat.

Food was great, although a small restaurant, it was a fun atmosphere. Some of the sauces were pushing the envelope and we think would have been fine if left a bit more simple. Still very good and will certainly be going back again to try more!! Thanks for a great evening
Superb food. Oysters outstanding. Likewise crab-dish in the small plate section (heavenly, really). Naturally friendly, welcoming waitress. A great experience on a rainy day.
I had never been to Brine prior to this visit although the 3 other women I was with had been a few times. The waitress was nice, and knowledgeable of the food served. It is truly a great place if you are and oyster fan (hence the name!) The food was inventive fresh and tasty. However the menu lacked in cocktails possibly because ?lunch all in all would go again....
Might be the best meal I had in 2018. You can tell the chef knows what to do with the ingredients. Nothing is over done. Flavored and seasoned perfectly. Oysters, Clam Bacon Chowder, Filet Mignon, Angel Food Cake for dessert. All four were outstanding. Make a reso, you won't be sorry.
Went to Buck a Shuck night, hence the 5/5 stars for Value. Interesting and great beer choices. Sausage of the day was absolutely delicious and paired beautifully with herbed mashed potatoes, chestnuts and mushrooms. Server was personable and efficient. All around a great place.
We had a great time! Great food, great ambiance, small space.
We are new to Newburyport and Brine is quickly becoming one of our favorite places. Inventive and interesting flavors without trying too hard. Wait staff is always welcoming and responsive. Highly recommend.
Excellent food, nice location , good lunch time venture
They accommodated for our 9 year old but I would like to see a few more kid-friendly items (e.g. hamburger).
A wonderful place with a absolutely delicious meat. Expensive, but i liked it so much, that it doesn‘t matter.
The food was phenomenal as was the entire staff. The setting was typical of Newburyport. The restaurant feels just the right size. I would absolutely recommend dinning here.
Overall the restaurant was good. We found the Oysters outstanding, but all of the other food was so- So. We ordered the really expensive caviar, and it was average. The steak tartare and the crudo also lacked flavor. The ingredients were fresh and the descriptions sounded amazing, but the flavors were really bland. We asked for lime, salt and pepper just to give them some interest.
We had a wonderful dinner at Brine recently - our first time to the restaurant. There were not many people there, so it was relatively quiet and very comfortable. The service was excellent, and everything we tried from raw bar to dessert were delicious, perfectly prepared, and very nicely presented. The only small disappointment is that a few things we saw on the menu that we were interested in trying were not available that night. We will definitely be returning to Brine.
Delicious oysters. I could eat a bucket of the habanero creme fraiche. Good beer selection. Would definitely recommend.
The oysters were outstanding. We liked to have different options to try.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Brine and were blown away with the food, service and overall hospitality!
Great food great staff fun night out in downtown Nbpt!
If your looking for fine food carefully prepared ...this place is a special treat!
It was OK, but nothing to brag about. I don’t think the food lives up to the hype or the price. Cute spot for a drink if you’re in the area, but so many good restaurants I don’t know if I would choose to have dinner here!
We've gone to Brine at least a dozen times and it never disappoints! The Bacon and Egg is ridiculously amazing. Also, I have yet to have a bloody mary better than Brine's. Great location, friendly staff, overall awesome atmosphere and experience.
Too noisy, overpriced, limited menu. Took 1.25 hours to get our meal. Others walked after us, were served and left before we got our main course. Steaks were over salted.
Waitress was very pleasant.
Delicious, chef driven offerings in a cool, small space.
They were out of MANY items on the menu including one variety of oyster, an appetizer, and two entrees. The menu felt a bit over priced for the portions served. The menu seemed a bit more monotone than it has in the past with not many different options to choose from which may have been also related to the missing items. This is my third time dining at this restaurant and by far the most disappointing.
It was our first time and we sat at the bar. Our service was great and food was wonderful.
We have eaten at BRINE many times. Our dining experience is usually good but this time it was well below our expectations. From the availability of the table to the inattentive waitress to the 4oz piece of fish, half of which was dark, veiny and inedible, it was not acceptable. And to top it off, once we pointed out the poor fish cut, the restaurant offered a complimentary dessert to make up for it, which we did not ask for or want.
This restaurant must do much better to justify its price.
Too many mosquitos in the restaurant. It would be better to install screen window/door.
Divine as always!
Great service and food! We love this restaurant. !
We have eaten at Brine a couple of times, and each time have been so impressed with the quality of our meals. Every flavor is balanced just right, and everything is cooked to perfection. Ingredient combinations you never would have thought of turn out to be just made for each other. The fact that the restaurant is open later than most others in the area is nice, especially if you have been out doing some sunset birding on the nearby Parker River Wildlife Refuge. I happily look forward to more visits. My only little quibble would be that I would have liked to have seen more local beers on the menu, but on the other hand, I tried a brewery from CA that I'd never heard of, so there's something to be said for expanding one's horizons.
Stripe Bass was nicely seared on outside, moist and delcately flavorful inside, with delicious thin sliced potatoes au gratin and greens that were perfect companions on the plate. Outstanding chefs special carrot soup with spices from India to start. Finished with delicious panna cotta desert. One blemish in the experience was that a second round of oysters we ordered to start did not arrive. We were told kitchen was busy but that’s not a good excuse. Overall, Brine does a very good job of delivering high level cuisine in a pleasant, intimate space. The wine list is not terribly extensive but is more varied than usual, a plus.
Small portions, big prices, not many choices and a waitress that seemed bored. Our party of 4 left hungry and spent over $200. Won't be back.
Our second time and just as great as we remembered! Super fresh seafood and very inventive cuisine.
Limited menu, food was disappointing given its reputation, and pricy for a restaurant out of Boston. Service was very good, and pleasant
Fresh, Creative perfection. The perfect storm of Service, Ambiance, and Food.
outstanding food. had dinner here before and always good but Brine seems to have upped their game and menu lately. this was the most creative menu by far. OUTSTANDING!
Nice fresh ingredients, interesting menu, great service and delicious lunch.
Table of 4 and everyone enjoyed their choices. Seated as we arrived. A little pricey but all in all a very good experience!
We went to Brine for the first time on Saturday night, and we loved the place! Small, fun, energetic atmosphere. Our waitress was a bit too perfunctory at times, but all the staff, and especially the hostess, were very helpful and friendly. Great oysters! Loved the tasting size for the caviar. The Maine Lobster Bake is incredible, as is the Clam & Pork chowder. Very nice steak tartar, and the fried oysters that came with it were the best I've ever had. We liked the small portions, which left room to split a dessert (lavender ice cream with angel food cake and strawberries -- wow!) and an after dinner drink.
Overall, just a great restaurant!
The food and service was great. The employees, Shelley behind the bar was great and did an amazing job. She makes a mean whiskey drink! Kim and Sully were also fun to talk too. Julian who manned the Oyster bar was great and chef Paul was very friendly. Highly recommend this place. Seafood was fresh and well prepared. You get what you pay for and the service from the staff here really put it over the top
On our annual trip ton Newburyport and we always hit up Brine. This has got the be the best seafood restaurant in New England. It’s better then most places we visit in Portland. We love the space and the staff. Everyone is so gracious. Food is imaginative, fresh and tasty. Oyster presentations are exceptional
