Came in for restaurant week, food was excellent. Had the blue cheese mussels, butternut squash fritters, beet salad then crispy short rib, monkfish, and vegetarian pot pie with a sweet potato biscuit on top. So freaking good!!! Had some beer - all came in cans, wished they had a better selection. Wine choices were okay. Asked server at the end of our meal to split our checks by item and she was condescending about it. I work in the industry and a restaurant like Anneke Jans should have table positions thus making this a relatively easy task.
The restaurant was too noisy. Couldn’t have a conversation with our friends. The food was very tasty, but the quantity was disappointingly small.
It was restaurant week so place was very crowded. This may have been why the meals were less than we usually expect. Those who ordered the beat salad enjoyed it. Steak was enjoyed by one in our party as was the pork tenderloin. Squash fritters we're big dough balls w very little squash in them. Ceasar salad was a small plate of romaine w very little dressing no croutons or flavor. The worst was the vegetarian pot pie. Two of us at the table ordered it and could barely eat the steaming hot bowl of vegetable mush w a biscuit on top. When o asked the waitress if anyone e was enjoying that dish since we both sent ours back uneaten she looked at me and clearly didn't know how to respond.
Always very good. Food was very good and we always feel welcomed. Excellent service and warm decor.
Completely lived up to its billing/reputation as one of the Seacoast's best! Would come back/recommend to friends in a heartbeat. Keep up the great work!
The food was amazing! Would come here again.
Always a nice, festive feed at AJ's. Appetizers were great. Entrees substituted arty puree for actual veg and starch. We prefer real thing.
We had a group celebration, it busy but not too crazy, which was perfect for us. The staff and food was fantastic, would highly recommend!
Love this restaurant. We were greeted immediately when we walked through the door by a very friendly host who took us to our table. The waitress came over immediately and introduced herself and took our drink order and brought us a delicious basket of bread. When she brought our wine she then explained in detail all of the specials and made recommendations. We ordered the Calamari which she highly recommended. It was amazing, very different from other restaurants. I ordered the Statler Chicken which was superb, very moist. The roasted brussel sprouts and butternut squash rissoto were both excellent. My daughter had the Duck Breast wish Parsnip Puree, Farro and Carrots. She ate every last bite. This was by far the best restaurant we have eaten at in the area and highly recommend it.
Lovely small, intimate restuarant in Kittery. Service was great. Food was amazing. Try the coffee rubbed salmon and Statler chicken. Definitely save room for the chocolate flourless cake dessert. Only downside is finding available parking in Kittery Center is horrendous. There is valet parking on Friday & Saturday.
Food was served cold. After being returned it came back same temperature
Pork loin entree was so salty not able to enjoy it Specifically asked for no added salt Server should have informed at that time dish was prepared ahead and salty
Server didn’t seem to concerned when most of meal wasn’t eaten
Meal was pretty good. Service was great. Will be back.
The restaurant is casual but feels intimate . The menu was a little limited but our appetizers and entrees were terrific. We had the Pork loin and salmon entrees. It was surprising to be the only dinner patrons in the restaurant for the night. Hopefully this was an anomaly as we enjoyed the restaurant and plan to return.
Food is always reliably excellent. Fair portions, wide selections and expertly prepared and presented. Great wine list and creative cocktail selection. We've also dined at the bar with it's own menu. Very nice atmosphere and a laid back feeling. Enjoy!
Great service and food!
Great food, ambience, and Alex was an awesome server!
Fantastic food! Charming warm atmosphere. Lovely service. Kudos to the wonderful welcoming host who makes it all work.
We had an excellent dinner at Anneke Jans last weekend. Two of us had the squash soup appetizer which was wonderful. Then for entrees we ordered the nightly special, the spare ribs, which were fantastic. Other dishes that were ordered were the pork chop and steak. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Drinks were great as well, mine was a little strong so the bartender adjusted it to my liking. We got the orange creme brulee which was also delicious. Our server seemed like she was a little too busy and had too many tables to handle at the beginning but we didn't mind because we wanted a relaxing dinner. Overall a wonderful dinner and I'd definitely return.
Great tasty food, very diverse menu, great service!
This was my 2018 visit to this eatery. I loved it as much as my first time in 2017. Great mussels with wonderful cream sauce. Great tender duck for dinner and tasty bread pudding for desert. Lovely decor that is warm and soothing. Nice local ingredients and great foodie restaurant for the travelers in Kittery. Not in the busy mall area but in the actual Village of Kittery. Worth it to go out of the way for this one.
Perfect, friendly, warm service. No greeting from the host stand, nor a good night upon departure. Very noisy, incredibly loud music. The duck was perfection, however the sides with which it was served lacked imagination and flavor, very bland. Muscles excellent, broth even better, pomme frites served cold. Excellence in some execution, overall a decent meal. Desserts not worth the price but lovely.
Wonderful everything! Ate in the lounge. Great vibe, awesome service, and the food was fantastic. Chef was able to cater to all my weird for allergies because everything was made from scratch. Made for a really memorable experience. Will go back again and again.
This restaurant never fails and has a great ambiance. We started at the bar and then easily transferred to our table where we are a fantastic meal with great service...and, we did not feel rushed which can sometimes happen. Well done!
New chef, seems like they e gone to small plates, I'm sure that's great from the bottom line of the restaurant, but not great for the customer. They used to have a terrific New York strip with greens and potato and it was to die for. The newer menu has replaced it with two very small pieces of sirloin eliminated the green vegetables and totally ruin the meal. The menu itself is terrific but starting to head towards Boston Centric small plate dining. I would much rather have a decent sized meal that is farm-to-table and pay the extra price. so definitely not worth going there anymore for the steak I'll return my business to the library or to Demtters.
My family and I ate here about 10 years ago and loved it. Unfortunately, it is not the same quality. The mussels were very inconsistent. My mother-in-law had clean mussels with no sand and really enjoyed her dish. My wife had very gritty mussels that were unpleasant to eat. When we notified the server, she apologized and said it depends on how they are grown. No manager ever came over. The pollock dish and pork dish were both excellent. Cheese tray was a joke ($15 for 2 pieces of Cabot and two pieces of an Italian cheese). Wine list needs some tender loving care. If you are looking for a nice atmosphere and don't care about a thoughtful wine list or consistent food, give it a try. If you have higher expectation for eating out, pick another place.
Always Fabulous & Terrific food & wine--Creative chef's choices--I took my sophisticated houseguests & the whole meal was spectacular. Our wait staff was very knowledgeable and the wine and cocktail list was abundant. We recommend the fried olives to start, the pasta and the daily fresh special entrees. ALWAYS EXCELLENT!
Food and service were exceptional. We had the raw scallop appetizer special and for the main course the mussels and pollock. All dishes were very tasty and would recommend them to anybody. Can't wait to go back!
Great food in a relatively small space. We werearly diners because of time constraints. Small plates, main dishes and burgers were excellent. The creme brule is not to be missed.
I might have already posted a review...this is our GO-TO place for anniversary and birthday dinners.
We are always greeted warmly, served personally and enthusiastically. The food is hot, creatively seasoned and beautifully presented. Sampling of various wines before selecting one is a pleasure and educational! Looking forward to our next visit already and we were JUST there!
Creative delicious food in a comfortable setting with friendly and efficient service. Good for both everyday dining or special occasions. Will definitely return when we return to the area.
Always one of the best overall on the NH/ME Seacoast.
Several of my good friends from different parts of the country were visiting and I wanted to take them some place special...food was fabulous except for the salmon which was a little too salty. We ordered four desserts - shares and voted... bread pudding win hands down!
Wonderful place. Last visit was our second. Stopped here on the way from the boston area to the bar harbor area. Had a black pepper papparadelle that was phenomenal, as was the salmon on a potato mille-feuille and creamed corn base. The only reason I gave service 4 stars instead of 5 was due to a nit: I would have like the server to sweep the bread crumbs off the tablecloth before serving coffee/desert.
We had a great time. Good food. Nice presentation. Vegetarian dish not impressive, but all else very good!!
Very tasty. We had a table all the way in the back overlooking the harbor and the shipyard, with a sunset in the background. Lovely!
This restaurant is consistently great. Very friendly and attentive service. The mussels appetizer was to die for. Remember to ask for extra bread to soak up the delicious broth. I had the salmon. I asked for medium well and that’s exactly what I got. Cooked to perfection! My date had the haddock and here again, cooked to perfection. Save room for the bread pudding. One of the best desserts I have had anywhere.
We always enjoy our dinner here. In addition to the excellent cuisine, we love the ambiance and outstanding service. By way of exampLr, instead of simply serving a dish and expecting us to divvy it up, each dish we shared between us was first plated separately and artfully by the kitchen.
Superbe expérience culinaire, allez-y les yeux fermés !
The food is amazing! All of the staff were very friendly too! I will definitely come back again. And recommend to my local friends.
we tried ti make diner reservations for 6.30 but was given the option of 6 or 7 we took 7 and half the restaurant was empty not sure why we could not eat at 6.30
