    Wednesday at 7pm. Busy but not terribly. Dustin took our drink order - Aperol spritz and glass of wine-and asked if we knew what we wanted. Bad Sign! Sure enough, the Frito Misto came in a couple of minutes but no cocktails. Like to have a cocktail BEFORE dinner, so we waited and looked at the appetizer. Finally my wife said “I think our drinks are coming”. She saw Dustin with our drinks on a tray but he stopped at the server station and was typing on the computer screen. Waited a couple of minutes and when my wife said “I think he is writing the great American novel”, I turned around to watch. Sure enough, two drinks on a tray sitting next to the computer where he was tapping away. Waited another minute and I finally got up and went to the server station. Asked Dustin if by any chance those were our drinks, When he said yes I picked them up and started to go back to our table. He got angry, telling me that he was very busy and if I wanted his job I could have it. I told him that I would not put in the appetizer order before I served the cocktails, at which point he threw his metal serving tray on the ground. I think he might be in the wrong line of work. Our new server was Sheppard and everything went well. Frito Misto had cooled off but still was very good and perfectly fried. Chicken Scarparletto was very tasty. Cacio e pepe was average - one big tasty clump of pasta. Spaghetti with crab seemed more like a vodka sauce rather than the light sauce we remember from past visits. No sign or taste of the Calabrian chilies. In case you wonder, no apology from Dustin and no visit from a manager. Guess they are used to hissy fits from Dustin. Sheppard was efficient and attentive and could not have been nicer. Gave her a 20+% tip in cash and hope she did not share it. Have had better experiences (food and service) at the Market Square location.

    It's just a favorite, every time! Salmon cooked to perfection, every entry is served hot, fresh. Drinks are also such a treat. The kiwi/basil gimlet is the best summer drink. This is my 3rd time having Dustin as our server at the Fox Chapel location. Really excellent. Great check-in without the constant "are you ready....any questions...at the table constantly". He really paid attention that we were taking our time, and enjoying an amazing evening. Don't change a thing, Alta Via - Fox Chapel! You are doing it right!

    My golfing buddy & I are in from Princeton, NJ, attending the U.S. Open at Oakmont. We dinned at Alta Via on Friday night and liked, no loved, it so much we went back this afternoon. Among the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Special shout outs to Mary and the hostesses. Thank you, all. ROC

    There were over a half different types of pasta. The half portion is big enough for one person. The side of artichokes is a must have. Great service. We will be back!
