In January 2000, The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant opened and became an integral part of the changing South Loop neighborhood. On December 10, 2014, a devastating fire started at the restaurant. Thankfully, all employees and firefighters were safe. Matthew O’Malley immediately vowed to rebuild.
Over the course of two years, the restaurant was redesigned and rebuilt. The redesign includes a larger bar area, the addition of a solarium with floor to ceiling windows for increased seating, enhanced private dine rooms and a beautiful 2nd floor veranda. Guests will now enter through the Firehouse’s original entrance on 14th Street.

Went for a work dinner. Waitress was odd. Seemed overwhelmed and not super friendly. Food was good. It's pretty noisy but the atmosphere is great.

The combination of the food and atmosphere is outstanding. Add to that the location, which is away from the crazy crowds on North Michigan Avenue, it is an relaxing place to spend the evening.

I was called by the front desk asking if i was going to Show up for dinner when i eas alteady seated in the dining room. The waiter brought a drink that was not ordered by our table. However the food was delicious. The prime rib was wonderfully tender and juicy. And yes I would go back

Service wickelte die Gäste ab! Das Steak war GsD in Scheiben geschnitten und trotzdem hätte man es erst noch weich reiten müssen. Es wurde nicht darauf hingewiesen, dass French Fries mit serviert werden, dann hätte man sich Baked Potatoe schenken können! Ambiente interessant.....

Wonderful dining experience! Ambiance is terrific with 3 different dining rooms to please everyone - all very tastefully decorated. Front room is more casual - an upscale bar/gastro pub feel, middle room very comfortable with circular booths and tables and an old world feel and back room bright and airy and contemporary. Menu same for all. So many great options on the menu. We were a group of 5 and everyone raved about their meals. Their signature lobster bisque bowl comes with a puffed pastry top, salads are fresh and inventive, steaks and prime rib first rate, delicious halibut option, signature cocktails and service that is attentive, professional and relaxed at the same time. A real gem. Will definitely go back - so many other great menu items to try and highly recommend! Great for celebrations and business dinners!

Beware the holiday buffet. We have had many good experiences at this place in the past, but this Easter was not one of them. In making the reservation, I missed the fact that this holiday event was going to be a buffet. I was aware that they have been doing this for special occasions for years, and, when we walked in the door and saw the extensive layout I thought, well, let's give it a try. Maybe I just made the wrong choices, but I don't think so. David, our server, was attentive, but the food was not up to house standards. We will be back, but not on holidays.

We were there for a Sunday brunch on Easter. There were no breakfast selections. It was more like a lunch buffet. I was disappointed in the food selections and the desserts. Given the limited food selections, the price for the brunch was too high. No one in my party really enjoyed the meal. I felt scammed.

The Chicago Firehouse was recommended by a friend but disappointed us. Perhaps we were unlucky as on arrival we discovered it was an Easter Buffet. We were placed upstairs in a corner with no atmosphere whatsoever. The buffet food selection was average albeit of good quality and the service was attentive but at $60 a head very poor value. Instead of an enjoyable a la Carte relaxed meal we found ourselves finished after one hour or so and given the lack of atmosphere left the restaurant. Had we been informed it was a buffet at the time of booking we would not have visited. Sadly the fire burned out very quickly for us and we were left very disappointed, poor value for money.

We went to Chicago Firehouse for Easter Brunch on Sunday and were pretty disappointed. The brunch itself was a nice spread of food, but for the price everything else fell flat. We were constantly in search/running down a server to get coffee mugs, beverage orders, salt and pepper for the table, and finally our check. For $60 a person, we shouldn't have to be in search of a water refill. As South Loop residents, we have frequented this restaurant over the years but will not be returning anytime soon.

I gave our Easter dining experience 3 stars. It was good, just not great. The food for the most part was good. We weren't excited, however, by any of the desserts. To be honest I was expecting more. I had wanted to try the restaurant for years. Maybe I need to go back and order from a menu.

Our first time back at Chicago Firehouse since they have reopened. We appreciated the more casual feeling in the bar area and upscale but not stuffy dining room. The most memorable part of the dinner was the wait staff, they were friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely worked to make our evening out enjoyable. My husband, who loves steak, was very happy with his NY strip, charred on the outside but perfectly pink inside. I ordered the short ribs which were good but underwhelming, there were probably better choices on the menu. We don’t drink and for dinner with starters it was about 75.00 a person, so not inexpensive but will definitely a lovely restaurant to keep on our special evening out list.

What a delight to have the experience of re-visiting the Chicago Firehouse! I remember the day I heard about the fire and felt that I had lost a wonderful, reliable place to dine in Chicago. But, this visit restored our old friendship. The new space is magnificent... open aired bar and dining area, closed in dining area and outside area too. Comfortable chairs. Even, a bar that you'd want to have a drink in before dinner. Our main server, Hustis, was excellent. He was very attentive; his partner was not always secure. However the menu was diverse...NOT like a regular steakhouse although all the choices are there. One must start with the Lobster Bisque..absolutely light and creamy, but not heavy, topped with a light, flakey pastry. And, my party enjoyed various appetizers before delighting in delicious prime rib, double cut pork chops, and a magnificent Dover Sole. The petit filet was exactly that... petit.... needs a little dressing to pick up its appearance. Although dessert seemed promising, the coffee service was confused, and fearfully, mixed up. (The other server) But, welcome back Chicago Firehouse.

The food was amazing (filet mignon / scallops/ brussel sprouts) and the drinks very tasty, especially the Aviation (I had two). Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely visit again.

Could have been a perfect five, except...there were 5 of us at a round table. It was so very loud - with tile walls and high ceilings. The space is beautiful, but it was impossible to carry on a conversation. That was a sad disappointment. My advice? Get rid of the round tables. Do something with the walls to quiet down the chatter that bounces off the tiled walls. Great food and service.

Celebrating a birthday. Called in advance to make sure they were aware and a desert and candle were promised. This never happened. In addition, the service was very slow, items on the menu were not available, and the food was not cooked or seasoned well for the price. The waiter disappeared for over 20 minutes. Overall, not a good experience for such a beautifully adorned restaurant.

Great food. Nice restaurant. If you're visiting Chicago - or even if you live in the Chicago area - you should eat at this restaurant. The only reason I gave it a 4-star rating instead of 5 is because the service was slow the particular night I ate there.

The steak was terrible. We got the cowboy for 2. It looked like it was for one. It was extremely tough. And we left hungry. Such that 2 hours later we went out for deep dish pizza. I was there before it burnt down. It was great. Now never comming back.

Although the venue, menu and food was very good and enjoyed by guests that had not been to the restaurant before, there were multiple mistakes with our orders (5 people), the coordinated delivery of courses, and the attention to flatware need, plates, etc.

My friend and I went to Chicago Firehouse on a spur-of-the-moment decision. We love the ambiance there. The bar and dining rooms are beautifully redecorated since they reopened. We both had the tomato basil soup to start as it was a chilly day. It was delicious. My friend had the lamb lollypops, which she loved and felt she had had just enough meat. I had the crab cakes; they were very good. We loved that a curtesy bread basket was served. It would be lovely if more options were available for special diets. I am on a diary-free, pescatarian diet to lower cholesterol. It was difficult to find anything on the menu to accommodate that need. The bread basket was served with butter, but no oil. The fish options were prepared in butter. The waiter suggested asking the chef to prepare it in oil, but it would have been much more than I could eat. The soup and crab cakes contained some dairy, but .... The service was very slow. We waited 15 - 20 minutes to get our initial drink orders.

Absolutely LOVED this restaurant! Went with two girlfriends and had the crab cakes and bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer.Amazing! And shared the salmon and blue cheese fillet. Also Amazing! The specialty drinks were perfect! We were SO surprised to hear they’ve been there 18 years! I can’t believe we haven’t been here sooner! Definitely plan on coming back!

We eat at the Chicago Firehouse irregularly and have generally had a very positive experience. There must have been something unusual this Wednesday. With two servers and only five parties in the main dining room, our server seemed to be AWOL. I finally had to ask a busser for a glass of wine. Perhaps there was an event in one of the upstairs private dining rooms.

I’ve been here several times. The food is decent and the ambience is very good-best in South Loop. My problem is the service. There is consistently straight up bad service. Do not let the white jackets fool you. This last time I actually spoke with a manager, stating that if it had been the first time, I would understand.

The food was great the New York strip was cook to perfection the lobster Mac and cheese was a great quality. The service was consistent and they showed they care. Will go at least 100 times more.
