   The Fleece overlooks the green in the heart of beautiful Witney. Parking was plentiful and the perfect place to stop for a stroll around the shops too. Greeted by a warm welcome, we were shown to our table and served by James, who couldn’t have provided a better service. I chose from the specials board, Asparagus to start then the delightful Monkfish, cooked in paper to retain the juices and sitting proudly on a bed of mussels, olives and sweet tiny tomatoes. My Husband, the birthday boy, had crab and then the succulent rolled Pork Belly. All the food was delicious, served promptly accompanied with a very tasty cocktail. No room for pudding. Sadly, the Fleece is about two hours drive away for us because we would undoubtedly return regularly. If you are in the area, don’t miss this opportunity. We loved it.

   Service was excellent. Friendly and helpful. Disappointed with the ‘petit poi’s’ they were frozen garden peas and were quite hard, not small and sweet as expected.

   We found our experience here on Sunday to be rather poor in all honesty which is such a shame as the food was good quality - when it finally arrived. We had booked our table and were seated promptly. Tables and dining areas are lovely, decor lovely and the atmosphere was great and busy as I imagine every Sunday is. Staff were friendly and attentive initially, explained the specials board and we soon had drinks and had ordered our food. We asked our children's meals to come with the bread we ordered to start and they brought the bread and children's meals fairly quickly. We then waited 40minutes for our roasts, which was such a shame. We were in a corner table by no means tucked away but for some reason no staff came to check on us or update us on why there was a long wait for our mains, but they updated all three tables close to us to apologise for the delay. I think had we had the same update I would have been more understanding, but we received no updates or apologies. We also noticed that once tables received their roasts, staff would come over part way through the meal to offer extra yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes etc. which I thought was a lovely idea. However no-one came and offered us extra! Perhaps because we had already waited for such a long time for our food. I think it just left us feeling rather invisible. Staff did apologise for the wait when they brought our food. It was just such a shame as the food was delicious when it did eventually arrive, though we would have liked to have extras like all other tables were offered too. We would have loved to enjoy dessert but given we'd already waited such a long time for our meals, we didn't want to risk another lengthy wait and instead got the bill. I hate to leave a poor review and there wasn't an opportunity to raise the problem as we left as I also had to go up and pay because staff didn't come back over once they brought over the bill. Hopefully in future all tables can be updated if there is a delay.

   We love The Fleece and lunch here is always a joy. We ordered the Wild Venison Loin and a vegan cottage pie. The Venison was gray and over cooked so we sent it back and it was replaced by a moist and succulent loin but it was 15 minutes apart so we ate seperately which was hugely disappointing. Our South African waitress was outstanding but she went off shift which left us searching for someone to pay the bill. We'd gone with the intention of using our £25 off 2025 voucher but we'd waited so long and eaten seperately that we skipped pudding which meant that we didn't qualify for the voucher which was disappointing. We love The Fleece but the past couple of times it's missed the mark....

    We love the Fleece as a local pub however was busy yesterday and not up to normal standards of service
