Ukiyo (translated as "the Floating World" - living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life) is a culinary workshop and atelier connected by a tiny walkway to Michelin starred Jewel Bako Sushi, just next door.

Ukiyo presents a provocative menu of French cuisine at its base, with Japanese and global inflections. The menu focuses intently on seasonality and ingredients. The setting is an intimate bar of 18 counter seats, surrounding Chef Marco Prins and his team in an open kitchen.

We are debuting our new menu for the Summer - please join us!

This was a serendipitous trip to a restaurant around the corner from our hotel that turned out to be one of the best gastronomic experiences of all our many trips to NYC. So worthy, and delicious. Can not wait to go back!

A former #1 spot in nyc reduced to a great place, with amazing food, great service, great wine and great prices. A long time ago this same place was an insane tasting menu for $80. RIP.

Amazing gem in New York. The professionalism of the staff is hard to beat. You should go for the five course menu. The salmon would leave you begging for more. Chef is also throwing an all kinds of treats, like foie granola. And the desert is unlike I've had any time before. That place was empty but I would not count it being empty for too long.

This was one of the most outstanding meals I have had & the price point is right where it should be. I was highly impressed by the flavors, which are light yet robust. Exactly what food dreams are made of. EVERY. SINGLE. BITE. of each and every dish was delicious and that says a lot, considering I tried about 11/16 items on the menu. I am no food critic by any means but I do like to dabble in the food scene and this place ranks right at the top. Thank you to Chef Marco for making our experience there unforgettable - definitely looking forward to following him throughout all of his culinary endeavors.

Talented chef serving creative tasting menu. Not a traditional sushi restaurant; more of a Japanese styled small plates experience where each bite is sublime. Service was impeccable. Performance kitchen.

Phenomenal restaurant, innovative and caring chef who works in an open kitchen. Mostly bar seating and set course menu on weekends. Much more Western cuisine than Japanese, but the Japanese ingredients and techniques are tastefully worked in by the Dutch chef who spent time training there. The complementary dishes are fantastic and evolving.

Relaxed environment with a friendly and helpful server. Front row seats to the Exec. Chef and second. Go for the 8 course tasting menu, it's a great deal and is delicious. Wine pairings were approachable and interesting without trying to take over the meal itself.

I took my dad here for his birthday and we agreed that it’s the best food we’ve ever had in our entire lives. He just turned 63 and he’s traveled all over the world, so this was high praise! We got the 8-course tasting menu which was well worth the price and a fabulous experience in and of itself. Our server Caitlin was incredibly professional, kind, and knowledgeable—it was a real treat to be with her for two hours. The chefs were lovely and never missed a chance to engage us in our dining experience to make it the absolute best it could be. Thank you Ukiyo for the best meal of my life!

Intimate restaurant with seats around the kitchen enabling one to watch the magic happen. The food was some of the best I have ever had. I highly recommend the 8 course tasting menu. The yuba, morels, black maitake was so sublime it could be served in heaven. Foie gras coated in rice crispies was shockingly wonderful. Every bite of every dish was multi layers of clean blended flavors. Each bite could be so different depending on the components i.e. the Kanpachi alone was very good but tasting with the green strawberries it was totally different and different again with the tomato, basil so it was like eating several meals in the same dish. The service was perfect and not fussy at all. It was better than restaurants that are twice the price. At 125 per person it was very good value.

Ukiyo’s chef is very good and has talent to get a Michelin star. However, less salt in the courses (and remove mayonnaise from the first raw fish plate) would really increase the taste and the quality. Desserts were perfect!

Chef Marco Prins is turning out exquisite little dishes that are as delicious as beautiful. This hidden French/Japanese fusion restaurant is a secret not for long. I have never eaten better anywhere in the world, the service is impeccable, the setting soothing and chic, and one can watch the master at work up close and personal. There aren’t enough stars to assign to Yukio. And a five course tasting menu at only $96 is such great value. Run, don’t walk to make your reservation. You will be so glad you did. There’s a longer tasting menu and you can also eat a la crate if you want, but you will miss out.

This was my second visit. I took my daughter and son-in-law. They were as impressed with the food, service, and place itself as I had been My daughter does not eat meat or dairy. One of the staff went over the whole menu with her to show what dishes she could order and a dish that could be modified for her (that was one of her choices). We were all advised on what dishes could be shared and how many should be ordered if we were choosing to do that. There is a tasting menu which I would recommend if you do not have restrictions. Also, there is an excellent wine list. (also beer and saki) Everything was exceptional. The food. The service. The decor

Wow - if you plan to experience fine dining in NYC, make it Ukiyo. Their hospitality is spot on and the food is haute couture of cuisine. Innovation and ambiance abound, Ukiyo is the embodiment of what’s so exciting about intersectional food. Highest recommendation is the chef’s tasting menu. Trust the experts, you won’t be disappointed. Ukiyo, take all my money.

Restaurant Ukiyo is a hidden gem. It's very cozy -- you sit at a counter surrounding the small kitchen and watch the chefs create the dishes. As long as you don't mind sitting close with your neighbors, you will be happy. The food was outstanding -- we enjoyed each one of 8 courses on the tasting menu. The mushroom dish was a particular stand-out. It was well worth the price. We will definitely return.
