This is a classic Hunan style food but has recognizable dishes listed under Americanized dishes. Prices are beyond fair for the quality of the food. We ordered some classic dishes along with soup dumplings. Give this place a try.

Wonderful option for uptown dining beyond the 90's UWS. Atmosphere is quite casual but there are lovely tables in the rear if you get lucky, otherwise it's filled with Columbia U students and tables are close together. Service is fine but if you don't want your table to be overflowing with all food arriving at once - be sure to let them know what you want first and what you want second and emphasize it. To put it simply the food is amazing, unusual high end Chinese ( Cantonese I believe ) Recs: Spinach with sesame seeds, Fried Rice with veggies, Tilapia with veggies brown sauce if you're ok with a whole fish. Wood Ear duo ( mushroom ). Extremely affordable ....

Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but what we ordered was very variable. The spicy tofu and the scallion pancakes were excellent but the whole fish was terrible and the deep fried squid appetizer was nothing to write home about. Oh it was all very edible but mayothey were having a bad night

We went here with our friend from China. She loved it; Authentic Chinese food with upscale presentation. Many great choices. We had lamb, chicken, eggplant, dumplings and tofu. Modern décor and crisp service.

Maybe we picked a bad evening to be there. It appeared that there has only three waiters and one bus boy to cover the entire restaurant. Therefore we had to wave for the waiter every time for his attention. We ordered three soups, two appetizers and 3 main dishes, but they simply delivered everything in random order but the worst of all, everything was only barely warm! I am not the type of picky customer but I will never go again.

I booked a table for 5 for friends getting together. When we arrive at the table, no server showed up to greet us and explain menu. Even when we finished deciding on the dishes, we struggled for a long time for someone to come help us order. But that’s not the worst part. The server messed up with our drinks two times. The dish wasn’t good enough. For the sliced pork belly, the sauce was not flavorful at all. The stinky tofu was fried for way too long, which makes it super hard to chew. We also ordered the sautéed frog with chili, not to mention it takes almost 1 and half hour for them to get this dish on our table, when it was finally there, the dish was cold! Overall, I’m so disappointed at the experience here. The service and the food do not meet my expectations at all. I don’t know how it gets qualified for Michelin.

Great food. A bit noisy “college town” patrons. Ambiance great. Great selection of food and appetizers. Didn’t have any dessert. Sometimes hard to get the attention of the server because lack of staff. Great eatery. Will go back…during less quiet hours

The water tasted like rust. The Crab soup was watery and had no pieces of crab. And the rest of the food tasted of garlic only I would not recommend it to anyone

Excellent cooking -- fresh and varied, not overly spiced, very sophisticated. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. The room is very attractive with striking art. A level of sophisticated ambience unusual in Chinese restaurants in NYC. A bit noisy when full. No liquor license yet.

Definitely a breath of fresh air to the growing offering of Chinese in the neighborhood! The menu is very authentic and interesting but yet Atlas also offers an American Chinese menu listing. The restaurant interior and decor a definite plus - very tasteful and love the artistic work on the walls. The service is very enthusiastic but I think restaurant management will need to work on more professional training. Also, the prices are somewhat on the pricer side. Overall, a good experience. The restaurant was packed on an early Sunday evening at 6pm. Atlas is the "It" Chinese restaurant in the Columbia University UWS neighborhood!

By far one of the best Chinese places in the neighborhood. Food tasted fantastic. Aside from that, I’ll note a few things that were odd: - Service brought our entrees out first and then apps a few minutes after that. Everything came out VERY quickly, which was great because we were hungry, but it felt a bit rushed and we didn’t understand why we didn’t get our apps first. - Midway through our meal, we got lemon flavored water in refill instead of the regular tap water. Had to ask to switch back. - When we asked for the check, no one cleared the table. Not a single plate. The table was still completely full when we left. Quite odd. Again, these were just small things worth noting - atmosphere and food both fantastic.
