Wagyu Charcuterie House-Made A5 Wagyu Charcuterie Canapés
Pâté with Fennel Mustard; Coppa Melting on Gnocco Fritto; Rillette with Quince Mostarda on Brioche; 'Nduja on Sourdough; Prosciutto on Grissini; Bresaola. Charcuterie has been a passion for Chef Eric Upper since he was a child. When he left Robuchon he made a concerted effort to master the skills and techniques of making charcuterie. When he found a restaurant where he was able to master it he introduced it to Chef Daniel Lucero, and soon Daniel mastered it. They have since teamed up again at AFICI. The charcuterie at AFICI is exclusively A5 wagyu. Using A5 wagyu leads to a depth of flavor that is hard to match. This charcuterie plate is unique not in only that it uses A5 wagyu, one of the highest quality meats in the world, but it is also well balanced and shows off both Italian and French techniques alike. It showcases Pâté, Rillette, Whipped Lardo, Pancetta, as well as whole muscle in the form of a leg cured in "Prosciutto" style. Each item is transformed into an individual one or two bite canapé. We go here only on Saturday before the theater and it never seems to be very busy, which makes it quite quiet. Food and service are both truly exceptional with inventive, well-executed dishes and very attentive service. This is one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco and I can not recommend it highly enough.

Great room, great service, lovely presentation of forgettable food, sadly. I had high hopes. Was very surprised how empty it was on a Thursday night - other restaurants in the nabe were bustling. The dining public will tell you all you need to know about who's got it and who doesn't. It also tells me why they had a 7pm res the day before and I got 1,000 pts.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and enjoyed a truly memorable evening in every respect. Before mentioning the food, the outstanding service deserves special mention. Nicholas and his team could not be more knowledgeable and attentive, yet they never intrude or interrupt. The food ticked every box. There are several (generally 4) choices per course. Each one is uniquely different from the others. You are likely to have a difficult time deciding. You are certain to find at least one that you'll want. We choose differently for each course in order to maximize the culinary experience. Everything was beautifully presented, perfectly prepared and delicious. We will go back again. With friends!

Excellent meal. One of the best we have had. Very much like the famous Charlie Trotters from Chicago experience. They provided a free welcome drink that wad a nice touch. The staff was attentive, but not intrusive. The prix fixe menu of 4 courses was excellent. The halibut crudo and rabbit appetizers bursted with flavor. The pasta courses were unctuous, with the spaghetti with uni being salty yet rich. The fresh fish and meats really showed through. The granita wast tart and provided a cleanse before the wonderful Gelato. The wine list is extensive and filled with some wonderful bottles. The bar is a work of art with extensive selections for cocktails and after dinner. The restaurant is only about 9 months old, but the experience feels like they have been there for years. Highly recommended for a special meal.

Our second time dining here and we cannot believe how the world has not caught on to this gem! Great creative food, presentation, cocktails, service. The only area to improve might be the wine list pricing which is on the high side, but their sommelier is knowledgeable and super down to earth.

Absolutely fantastic food and service. Very knowledgeable sommelier. Wild foraged morels were a show stopper. Only issue toward end of our dinner was unfortunate behavior by a large group waiting for their table at the bar. The group was repeatedly dropping F bombs, louder and louder, and no one from the staff addressed it. Finally I had to tell them to stop, which wasn't pleasant. I assume that this was a random and rare event as it was an otherwise classy crowd. So I won't hold it against the restaurant. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful fine dining experience at a very reasonable price-value point. Was not crowded so we had fantastic service. The sommelier was really knowledgeable and fun. Helped us with pairings for every course and let us try some small production wines he had obtained from special wineries. He even had tips for my son’s upcoming trip to Tokyo! Can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

Our only issue was the wine list as there were only a couple of affordable ones and mainly whites. It isn't that they had ridiculous ones, it is that they ONLY had ridiculous ones.

Lovely experience, being greeted at the door with a welcome cocktail is always a wonderful way to start an evening. Warm towels brought to the table for hand cleaning is a nice touch. The food is well prepared, tasty and warrants repeating.

I honestly don't get all the 5 star reviews. Two of us had a combined 8 courses. Four courses were very good to maybe outstanding (esp. two pasta dishes); four were meh, nothing memorable. It was not what I expect of a $400 dinner. The staff were all very nice.

We eat periodically in SF when we come in for the theater or Opera, and decided to try something new. Afici was a great surprise. The food was exceptional and interesting. The Chef worked for luminaries like Robuchon, and the attention to detail shows. It’s also part of the growing Alexander empire, so you know some of the dishes are going to be extravagant (like the A5 charcuterie plate – not certain if that is sacrilegious). The lamb tartare and pastas were excellent, but the star of the night was the lamb for two (the beautiful copper pot, oozing herb smoke, was carved tableside). The other surprise was the quality of the wines by the glass (e.g., white Bordeaux, premium Napa Chardonnay and even the 2nd label of Cos d’Estournel), and the interesting cocktails (rhubarb and grape sorbet).

It’s so good I don’t even want to write about it….like seriously..hands down one of my favorite places. I’ll be back to try the other variations/ offerings from their pre-fix menu, whoa! Like seriously…. I didn’t have ANYTHING that was bad. And although the sizes appear small, you’ll be more than full!

Excellent food and service. We did the four-course fixed price meal, and were treated like royalty. (Notably, however, we were the only diners in the entire restaurant on a Tuesday evening - although the bar area was much busier). We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. However, I am one of those people for whom decor really matters. The decor here was comfortable and new, but very bland. I suppose some may like that because the food is not upstaged. But for me, I would have preferred a more interesting looking space.

This review is for Chief Eric Upper. The reviews on opentable don't do you any justice man. Your restaurant was not just your typical 3-4 food course meal. It's an experience, a concert, a Broadway show and how much feeling you put into this establishment. When I read your article on Forbes magazine. My wife and I had to go. We knew this place was not your typical restaurant I told her. She thought it was another salt bae chief. Another chief trying to get his attention. Kidding me!!! We were astound by everything!! The food!! Halibut!! The tri-tip, your pasta dish. Not only you were able to bring life into pasta but the flavor into it!! Chief... I hope Pete Wells comes and visit you and I'm sure he would be impressed. The last restaurant I had an experience like your was AQ (miss that place). Thank you so much and I hope this review well help you win more food critics and knock there socks off. And for the people reading this. Please consider this place. Don't think it's like an STK #instagram place where they charge you for a steak that claims it's good. Pfffff this place is what a 5 star restaurant should be about. Golden star restaurant that knows how to bring life into food. Oh and please dressy classy. Respect the Chief and respect the 5 dear restaurant code.
