The award-winning Uchi, which translated from Japanese means “home,” was first opened in Austin, Texas by James Beard Award winner Chef Tyson Cole. Since then, Cole’s signature non-traditional take on Japanese cuisine has been warmly received by visitors from across the country and around the globe. Reservations are encouraged and can be booked online up to 1 month in advance for parties of up to 10 guests. Walk-in bar seating is available and is subject to wait times. Vegetarian menu is top notch with plenty to choose from. We ordered one of everything and left extremely satisfied. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Cannot wait to go back.

In general the food was fine. Some dishes were exceptional while others were just ok. When nearly everything gets paired with ponzu sauce things get dull. The service wasn't spectacular and felt rushed. They need to consider how their beverage menu aligns to their food offerings.We had our meal curated by the server and when I asked what white wine was recommended based on their food selections I was advised that they all do. Just indicates a learning opportunity.

Everything was amazing as usual when we’ve come in, it was my girlfriends birthday and I had put it in the preferences for our reservation that we were celebrating her birthday and not one time was it acknowledged by our server or staff. Great experience as always, but was disappointed as we don’t go out to splurge that often and love going there.

Happy hour is a great way to experience Uchi’s sushi and ambiance if it’s your first time. The food is delicious and well worth the price. Service is excellent. The valet parking is so convenient. Really cool interior and vibe.

Service was a bit frantic. Staff needs to give patrons a better idea of how much food comes with the $300 tasting menu for two. It was a lot of food. Probably too much. Cudda spent less and been happy.

I'll start off by saying the food and drinks were fantastic. Happy hour is a steal. The service, on the other hand, was not up to my expectations. We were greeted by our server right away and things were off to a great start. After ordering our first few dishes, we noticed he hadn’t come back to our table in a while. The manager came by and asked if our new server had introduced herself, that our original server had to leave because of a family emergency...at this point we hadn't been in touch with a server for over 15 minutes. When the new server came over to our table, she did not introduce herself. She just started gathering up our menus and I stopped her to say we were still looking / ordering. She told me "we like to keep the place 'cleaner' and keep the menus in the menu holder." She walked away after that. I did not know about the menu holder because no one mentioned it nor did I know she was our new server at this point. She finally came back and introduced herself. I ordered a second drink, and while still enjoying my first one (about a quarter glass left) she just took my original drink when the new one came out. After dining for an hour and fifteen minutes she was pushing dessert. Then dropped our check before we even started eating dessert. The entire experience felt rushed after our first 10 minutes even though we spent time waiting to order because we didn't have a server for x amount of time... Our dishes came out of order and the eel was cold, amusing because it was sitting for several minutes before someone ran it. It was a birthday celebration, mentioned in the reservation, but no one at the restaurant said anything. Why ask if it's a special occasion if it doesn't matter? We were really looking forward to this. The food was great but the service made the experience sub-par.

We have been to Uchi 5 times. The first 2 times were magical, and I would tell people it was my favorite restaurant in Denver. The last two times were meh at best. The service has really gone downhill. The servers are not very attentive, and the kitchen/sushi staff look perpetually irritated. The first few times we were here everyone was smiling and enjoying their work. Drinks and food were slow to come. Quality of dishes has gone downhill where they used to be exceptional. The sushi staff was irritable and hard to get questions answered. This used to be the best place in town, but now I would look at some others. Ronin is very good, smaller, and a better experience.

I was surprised by how slow the service was, but the servers were very hospitable and food was tasty. Karaage could've been crispier. Especially because it took over an hour to come out. However the space was really nice and I plan on coming back.

Just absolutely outstanding food. We asked for a tasting based on a pescatarian diet and some details on our tastes and our waiter Ali gave us a wonderful meal of delicious, fresh fish and plant-based courses that were like nothing we'd ever tasted before. Some of the memorable courses included an eggplant nigiri with miso, a roll of yellowtail and vegetables, and a shortcake dessert with blueberry compote and cinnamon ice cream that left us with a perfect finale to a long, great meal. Excellent service with the staff giving details on each dish, good tasting portions with well-timed courses, and just a fantastic restaurant.

Spent almost 300$ , we left hungry. I wasn’t even impressed with a lot of the food , the wagyu had no marbling, the 5$ watermelon oyster was microscopic. I would return again but this time after I robbed a bank.

The karaage was incredible, ordered a second serving. But outside of that, the food is over-priced and the sushi servings are absurdly small, like insultingly so for what you are paying. No true sushi lover would call this their “go to” place. Sushi den is much better if sushi is what you’re after. I would come back for happy hour though to have some drinks & karaage

This is one of our favorite restaurants in all of Denver. The experience is always worth it, and the space is amazingly designed. The food has never disappointed, it’s always amazing, and it’s propped up by some of the best staff in Denver. Best service, find me a crew that can top the folks at Uchi Denver, I bet you can’t!

Uchi was amazing! Very high quality foods and amazing flavors. I have a few dietary restrictions and they were able to adjust for me, and I was still able to enjoy a lot of the food! Will absolutely be back soon.

Server - Ryan of Dan (dude with blonde tips) provided excellent service. Even handed out a few good extras from the chef. Love the HH menu. It can’t be beat, but you must make reservations even for that so plan ahead!! It was busy by 5 p. Cheers!

I have been a long-time fan of Uchi Denver since opening day and visit whenever I have guests in town, touting it as my favorite restaurant in Denver. The Denver experience has never been quite the same as the Austin Uchi and Uchiko experience (servers in Austin are much more engaged and involved), but past experience at Uchi Denver has always been good. I was disappointed with the service this most recent time. We had a 9:15pm reservation which was all that was left when I booked. We were not seated until 9:35 which was fine because we were able to enjoy a drink while waiting. Once seated, our server rushed through the explanation of the menu, speaking so fast my friend couldn’t understand him. She commented that she wondered how many times he had given that talk. It was rote, rapid and impersonal. The food was amazing as always and saved the dining experience, but we were not given explanations of the dishes as I have come to expect with Uchi. Usually spoons are provided with the mapo dofu and you are given guidance on how to eat it to maximize the taste. Likewise, usually the machi cure comes with instructions for what to include with each bite to best enjoy it. We were not given these special touches. We ordered a total of 7 items and each plate was quickly left on the table with the server saying only the name of the item and then scurrying away. No description was given for any item at any time. I have been to Uchi enough to know this is atypical and as it was my guest’s first time there I was disappointed and felt I had oversold the experience. The evening was not busy and the restaurant population thinned quickly after we were seated because it was such a late reservation. It felt like the staff was hoping we would keep our experience short and leave quickly so that they wouldn’t have to stay late. I hope this is an anomaly and will continue to support Uchi but certainly wish this experience had gone differently.
