Great food, great service, excellent value.
Great, fun restaurant. Great food.
This restaurant has good food. At the beginning we were the most important people and then we were the least important.
First off, I have to say that I’ve been to David Burke’s Kitchen and Tavern more times than I can count as both my wife and myself love it. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday as well as attending a concert at MSG so I booked reservations at Woodpecker knowing that we’ve never been disappointed with a Burke restaurant. Until this passed Saturday. First off, the drink service was terribly slow, and by slow, I mean that our first round of drinks came out precisely 4 minutes before our entree (we did not order appetizers). Secondly, I ordered the Burger, medium rare to medium. It sounded very simple and appealing on the menu. When the food got to our table, I opened the top bun to add some black pepper and noticed there was a sauce on the burger. The menu does not say anything about a sauce on the burger. My wife is a couple bites into her food, probably about 3-5 minutes before we had to flag down a bus boy to see if the sauce is mayo based, I just have a severe dislike for mayonnaise, no allergy, I just really don’t like it. The bus boy finds the server and asks him, we watch this happen. The bus boy returns to our table to inform me that it is a mayo based aioli at which time I promptly ask for a new burger. Several minutes later, the server brings a burger to the table. It was not very long, but I figured how long could a medium rare burger take in a rush. I give the server a thank you and explain that I just don’t like mayo and the menu does not mention anything about it. He says no problem and scurries off. Now I check the burger, there is no sauce, awesome. I cut the burger in half to make it easier to eat only to find that it’s well done. Come on. I can’t send the burger back for a second time as we have concert tickets that the doors open for sooner than later, so I eat it. Mediocre at best. All the burger did really was provide a heavy caloric intake for me to get through the rest of the evening and mess with my healthy eating habits for sub-mediocrity.
Good food, lively but not too loud (in side room where we were sitting)
We had the broccoli mops which I loved but my husband thought they were bland. He also found his tuna tartare app to be just ok. For his entree he had the roasted garlic chicken on the regular menu & he loved it. Good size portion with yummy flavor & great combo of farro & squash. I had the Brussels sprout pizza sans bacon & loved it. The service was attentive without being annoying & the space was warm and casual
Had a great time, good and service was great. Brought friends and they said they would definitely go back.
We had a great time and enjoyed the food and drinks.
Way too loud. We could not carry on a conversation across a table for two. The tables were painfully close. The food was fine.
Very cold. Poor service. Extremely noisey. Food way over rated but good enough..menu is at the level of any basic restaurant. No originality. Poor space design : very few tables. No privacy. Long corridor like a hallway. Not Cosy or fancy or hype... Over rated overall.
Excellent food as always. Creative menu. Just a pleasurable dining experience.
Loved it. We were in a time crunch and they did their best to get this out in time.
Waiter was poorly trained and UNHAPPY. Was expecting more in the sense of culinary experience.
Pizza with sausage was mediocre. Wouldn’t recommend ordering.
Had high hopes but was disappointed on several levels. Food, especially the squid ink pasta with shellfish, was very good. Service was not graceful and was consistently disorganized across the board. Started in the bar for happy hour. It's very narrow and there were only two bar servers, who were also filling drinks for the restaurant guests so they were slammed. The bar seats are wedged together and were filled. There is some standing room, but ordering was very difficult - not only was it very noisy but the happy hour menu didn't specify anything other than Wine $5; Cocktails $5, etc so the server had to talk over the seated guests to tell us it was Pinot Grigio and Red Sangria. Why should each patron have to ask what kind of wine and what kind of drinks? There was one happy hour drink that was $5. Fine, but why not put this info on the menu, or on a signboard? No wonder the bar servers are hassled. We then moved to our table, and found the restaurant to be just as noisy as the bar. Again, the service was disorganized - multiple people stopped by to ask for our drink order after we sat down. The food was fine, but when one of my friends asked for another glass of wine mid-meal, it took over 20 minutes for it to arrive. The dessert menu was uninteresting. I expected better overall.
Wine list was rather disappointing for the type of restaurant this is. The only Reisling was Chateau St Michelle. Would getting one actual German wine kill you? Food was good but the signature Pork Chop was a little overcooked for my taste.
Acoustics are terrible. Way too loud. But all the wood decor is charming. I like David Burke’s restaurants in general, but this one not so much except for decor.
This place is awesome! The bacon on the clothesline seemed weird but was delicious!!
The hamburger was to die for as was the ravioli which was the pasta special. The pizza was also yummy. Our waiter was personable and attentive. Then came the decadent desserts.. the cake pops and peanut butter cake were so so good! will definitely go back.
The hostess was very sweet and accommodating.
As for the restaurant Interesting set up. The bar looks good.
Pizza, salad, pasta, fish were good, the guacamole was strange (not much guac, and some salad on top) didn’t like it. The parsnip fries I got exited but had to return for a new order because they were over salted. And I think they are way too thin, should be thicker (but what do I know)
Didn’t have desert, nothing dark chocolate 😟
Food was inventive, flavorful, seasonal, and presented very well. portions were good. Some items were overcooked. But overall, very good.
Excellent food. Excellent service. 2nd time here. Same results each time.
My guest from LA said his pizza was completely bland.
The cheese on my dish was lovely, but the highly decorated plate was filled with things that were either not very edible (seeds) or not very flavorful. We were both very disappointed as the hype was quite xtensive!
There were no crackers or anything to go with our dishes. Pretty spartan. I'm unlikely to come back.
If you eating alone this is a great place to dine. The energy is young and hip. The portions are are a nice size and tasty. The wait staff were attentive as well as the general manager Patrick. I will definitely go back the next time we are in NYC.
Started with the oysters and continued on with the fish of the day for 2..sea bass with the most delicious roasted vegetables I’ve ever had..management treated with cake lollipops for dessert....nice treat...will be back to check out more of the menu....
Hits: Burrata dish with prosciutto and granola, roasted oysters, pretzel sticks with mustard oil, tuna crudo (good but not great).
Gin cocktail with cucumber and dill - would have been great except I couldn't taste any actual gin.
Goat cheese gnocchi dish - the gnocchi were great, but the duck confit was incredibly salty. My partner was telling me an interesting story, so I didn't notice til I'd eaten over 1/2 of my duck, but I then stopped him from eating his portion, and so we ended up returning quite a bit of food. I let our server know and we ended up ordering the tuna crudo. I also ordered 1 more $12 dollar glass of wine (on top of the $70 bottle we'd already ordered) to go with this last dish. I was a little surprised to see that they charged us for everything, as I feel the right thing to do would have been to either remove the charge for the overly salty dish, comp the last glass of wine...something, anything!! to acknowledge the issue.
Dessert - We didn't get to try it as we wanted to pair it with tawny port, and they were out of both tawny ports on their menu. We therefore had a choice of a cheap ruby port or a $150 bottle of ice wine, so we declined dessert and left. I guess on the up side, our dinner was $50 less than it would have been if we'd stayed...
I really, really wanted to like this place. It has a great ambiance and most of the food was well prepared and well presented. But in the end, too many misses for a restaurant in a city with so many great restaurants.
It took a long time to get service here.
ALL the food came out at the same time, even after we asked them to course it out. Then it all sat on the table getting cold while we waited for our wine to show up.
The food was a B-
Food was pretty good. But the noise level really ruined the dinner. Even though the restaurant was not so full the noise seems to reverberate. Not the place to go for a nice cozy evening with a friend or for a romantic dinner
Great food, service and decor
Food was truly great - bar service was a little slow. The place is a bit loud, but that wasn't a problem for us. The only disappointment was that they weren't making donuts the night we were there (the dessert menu indicates they sometimes make donuts).
I've eaten at Woodpecker twice and will keep it in mind when planning events near my apartment. It's stylish without being trendy. The food is great and the service is extremely friendly. Have the bacon!
Love their knowledge of the menu. Interesting options. Very modern and new age combinations. Loved their Black Sea bass for two. Would love to return for the same dish or even venture out for their other interesting dishes.
Food presentation is very creative and whimsical....tastes great too. Service was attentive and prices are fair. We will definitely return.
Woodpecker is what I call good Hi/Lo...designer jeans and a t-shirt, 54-11s and Versace shades. Place is woody and warm, casual but uptown, food is simple but high quality and creative. My friends started early at Happy Hour, so they were 2 $5 cocktails in...Yup HH is $5!! - 5 choices of snacks and usual booze. I had 5 oysters for $5 and they were so clean and fresh. Dinner was great...David Burke was actually dining there with a group of somebodies. Great service, great drinks. Food took a bit to come (I was starving), which happened to me at another Burke establishment... We started with the Bacon, everyone should have the bacon, and the korean wings & rings- F*$K!!!! Soo much goodness and went great with my drink. They know what they're doing. lol. My friend and I shared the roasted whole trout and side of roasted mushrooms, other friend had the black ink pasta... Everything was so so good. Portions are really good and its delicious.
Delicious lunch at Woodpecker! Great for conversation, service and tasty food - a new neighborhood favorite for me!
Food was great. Service was great. But I couldn’t hear anything my friends said and this was a reunion of longtime friends.
Best chicken sandwich ever, lovely lunch, will definitely try out for dinner
A little loud for a conversation - better for friends than business
Great choice for the last minute casual dinner with friends. Not necessarily very inventive but everything we had was tasty.
The server was a total train wreck. It took over an hour to get our appetizers . And we only got them because we asked and when they arrived the bacon and deviled eggs was missing the eggs. The main courses had a similar arrival time, but this time when we asked the server about them she looked at the kitchen saw that they were sitting in the pick up window and walked in the other direction hmmm
Top decile food and bottom decile service make for a disappointing dining experience.
