Akrotiri Seafood Taverna
Ten star food in a five star world. Creative delicious Greek fare. Will return. Only criticism is that it is tight between tables. Definitely a winner!!
Food was very good. The fried veggie appetizer was so good we ate the whole thing . Saganaki and calamari were also delicious. I had the chicken and substituted French fries and I wasn’t disappointed . Chicken was moist and fries were excellent. Everyone was happy with their food. Will definitely go back. Desserts were also yummy! I especially liked the mastiha ice cream and the orange pie.
Love, love, this places !!! And chef is so unassuming and humble !! Love his cooking and the staff is so accommodating too!
The welcome is very Warm and waiters so kind and helpful. The meals were all very tasty and fresh.
They were very nice adapting food for children as well. The place is charming and the bar great !
I would recommand it and will be back a third time for sure.
Everything was great. Food amazing!! Just a little tight with seating. Stefanos was wonderful in helping our selection of food! Can't wait to go back.
Good food! Terrific service. When I asked for a mixed drink, scotch and soda, it was the first time I was ever asked how many shots I wanted in it. Strange. And the price of the drink with 2 shots was expensive. Otherwise a very good experience overall.
Good food attentive service. We liked our waiter, Stephanos
Absolutely fantastic. The food, the atmosphere, all terrific. The Chef has so many edgy and creative options on the menu, and everything is delicious.
Don't miss this gem.
It is the best Greek Restaurant in Astoria. I recommend everyone who wants to explore restaurants in Astoria, to visit it
Amazing dinner. Fresh food beautifully presented! Great service by Stefanos, the Greek waiter.
Had been driving by here for a while and always loved the decor and wanted to try it. Finally went for a cousins’ dinner and we were all blown away! The menu included traditional Greek dishes that were delicious, but also a few Greek dishes with a twist. We opted to just get a few different appetizers and each one was better than the last. The wait staff was friendly (and funny) and very attentive, explaining to us what each dish came with and checking in every so often to see if we were enjoying our meal. The presentation was beautiful and the portions were just the right size. To top things off, we were sent some desserts on the house (because we clearly enjoyed our food) and even after being full from all the food, we finished every last bite of the desserts. Can not recommend this place enough. Already planned a cousins’ happy hour!
Went the week before and loved it. Went back with family and we were not attended by the waitress for 45 minutes. We ended up asking the host for the check and didn't bother ordering dessert because our waitress never returned. I get that they were busy but this was disappointing given we were really excited to take our family because of the wonderful experience the week before. The food is great still. Advice would be go on a slow night and not a busy one.
We loved the food and the whole dining experience but for the Astoria neighborhood we felt that the portions were on the small side and pricey. Other Greek restaurants in the area have great food, more generous portions and better prices.
One of the best new Greek restaurants in Astoria. Made even more special by my favorite waiter Stefanos who comes from the Greek islands himself and helped us pick out the most delicious food on the menu we otherwise might not have tried. Atmosphere is a bit more upscale from the older tavernas in the area, and food is just as good! A bit pricey but the quality is worth it.
I wanted to like this pretty restaurant with outdoor seating on a corner in Astoria so much that I dined there 3 times. The chef tries to do twists on old Greek favorites but fails miserably. On my first two visits the waiters had no issues with my food requests (the menu points out at the bottom that the chef is happy to comply), not the case this time as the waiter kept saying he didn't think so and would eventually acquiesce and go into the kitchen to ask, always returning with a "yes". This time we avoided the chef's twist on tarama and ordered it the old-fashioned way. All we tasted was over-salted tarama with no other apparent flavors, not even the texture beckoned to eat more. The grilled octopus hardly seemed grilled as it was almost julienned rather than in chunks. We asked there be no vinegar on the octopus, our waiter guaranteed the kitchen doesn't use vinegar which would be incredibly odd since Greeks always serve octopus drowning in vinegar. Of course the octopus came laden in vinegar, we didn't send it back, it was awful and my husband being Portuguese knows a thing about grilled octopus. The lemon potatoes were only pepper, so laden in pepper they were inedible, we're still in search of the lemon. My husband's branzino was over-cooked (what did the poor branzino ever do to deserve such a fate). I had asked for my salmon rare without the yogurt because I'm lactose intolerant. Somehow this became the most difficult request of the night. The waiter went back to ask the chef who of course said yes. The yogurt with beets mixed in was served on the side, I wasn't offered a substitution. Finally, my salmon was raw and not of Sushi quality. left with no choice we sent it for a bit more grilling and still it came back raw, my husband saw blood on it and convinced me to stop eating it. We asked for the check and left. After 3 such underwhelming visits I believe the diners who rate Akrotiri high are all friends of the Chef and staff. My husband and I say AVOID!
The food and wine were fantastic, friendly owners, they allowed us to linger over our meal and wine and then coffee. Unique menu, and even more rare Greek wine menu. It was a great long lunch!
Wonderful new Greek in Astoria!!!
Having tired of the same old same old, we discovered Akrotiri and boy are we glad that we did
Great service as well as really good happy hour food and drink deals
We loved it so much we’re already planning our next visit
A perfect addition to the Astoria dining scene a truly upscale Greek experience
AC was not working. We were swearing. Too loud and too cramped. Not coming back. Servers are nice too bad
Really enjoyed everything about our dinner here. Not your average Greek tavern, a lot of pleasant twists to the traditional Greek menu. We were a group of 7, all of our orders came out quickly and all the food was amazing. Really like the shrimp loukoumades and tuna tartar.
This was our first time dining @Akrotiri, after an enthusiastic recommendations from friends who are originally from Greece. The whole experience was delightful -- food menu was really well explained by our terrific waiter, who gave us as much (but not too much) culinary background on the dishes and pairings as we needed to share in our decisions. The food, all cooked perfectly, much from authentic Greek ingredients, was served on a gracious (not rushed, and not a lot of waiting) timeline, the wine was perfect, and the portions all ample. We actually over-ordered to try more of the dishes, and ended up bring some home for a late night snack. The chef, who seems to be cooking in the kitchen (nice!) mixes classic Greek cooking with modernist tweaks. We enjoyed both, from the spectacular lobster and gnocchi to a simple plate grilled fresh sardines.
We ordered drinks and starters of octopus with black eye peas, grilled calamari, saganaki, tarama with truffle, octopus balls and spanakopita. All of them were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them.
Cabbage salad had way too many walnuts & apples and was too heavy on the dressing. Not enough cabbage to balance the dish. Greek salad was mediocre as well. Tomatoes were mushy.
First round of beverages were served well. Fix beer came with a glass along with wine and various carbonated drinks. Second round of drinks however were horribly served. 2 bottles of Fix beer were ordered but what we got instead were glasses of a dark warm beer. When waiter was notified he offered no resolution and denied that it was a different beer when we know it clearly was not Fix beer.
Lobster Pasta didn’t taste as good as it looked. The presentation was lovely but, sadly the lobster was over cooked and rubbery, mushy pasta that was clumped together and the sauce lacked flavor. This dish has potential to be great but needs some tweaks.
Parchment Perch was good as were the pork chops.
When we got the bill we were overcharged 2 additional beers. When waiter was notified he simply walked away and came back with a new bill, no apology and no observation that the beers were never consumed due to them being served warm.
Lights need to be dimmed a bit, we were blinded for most of our stay.
Ambiance is pretty, music was nice and there is definitely potential for this restaurant to become a neighborhood gem.
Outstanding food and service!
The food was excellent. Perfectly prepared and evert
Thing was fresh. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely return
Food was just average and a bit overpriced; service was non-existent. I won't be back, unfortunately.
Chef Nicholas has brought to Astoria something that was missing: high quality Greek food with a fresh and modern twist. Will definitely return.
Great decor and ambiance! Food was delicious, a creative departure from traditional Greek dishes. Service while dining there was top notch, but we also appreciated that they called us that we forgot our daughter's sunglasses there. Very thoughtful. Kales doulies!!
Food was good but pricey for Astoria the service was on slow side the waiter never came by to check on us the only time I saw him Was when he took the order
Our waiter was awesome. Super knowledgeable and kind. Just wanted us to enjoy. We had a vegan person and a gluten free person with us, and he was STILL awesome. The food was great. We tried many dishes and loved them all. From the sardines (not too sardiny) to the grilled octopus (octopussin delicious) and many more. We will most definitely be back!
My husband and I live around the corner and were very happy when this place opened. It has such a lovely vibe to it, it is a great addition to the neighborhood. We went here on a Monday for our anniversary and it was delightful!
I would have given the restaurant a better review except for one thing that bothered all 4 of us. The waiter highly recommended the black fish to me and my husband before our friends arrived. When the bill came we were all in shock. While our branzino was $22.00, the black fish that my husband ate was a whopping $56. The waiter should have forewarned us. The tzatziki and eggplant dips were served in large clam shells and were the tiniest portions I have ever seen. My friend complained to us that his swordfish was dried out. So since we split the check, we felt compelled to treat our friends to cappuccino and dessert at a bakery across the street. The friends told us several times that next time we should all eat at Telly’s. When I told a millennial relative about the waiter’s black fish recommendation, he said that sure, the high priced item resulted in a larger tip. We will not return to this restaurant as we felt like we were tricked. The black fish was 2 lbs, but after accounting for bones, head and tail, it was a normal size fish entree.
Walking to Akrotiri from a block away we saw the festive lights hanging around the perimeter beckoning us in. Sitting at the bar having a cocktail looking at the blue and white interior with the 2 corner walls open to outside, we felt the breeze blowing in magically transporting us to the island of Mykonos or Santorini! The drinks were great, the staff was SO friendly, and the food was fantastic. We chose to get a variety of appetizers and no main entree. Everything was tasty and beautifully prepared. We can't wait though, to return so that we can choose from the stunning selection of fresh fish on ice display for an entree. The Mosaiko (chef's secret) dessert was the best Greek dessert we have ever had. Hard to describe....you just have to go the Akrotiri and try it for yourself!
I had family coming in from out of town and they had requested that we visit a restaurant in walking distance from my home. Akrotiri had opened several months ago and I had walked past it several times but had yet to visit, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. They perfectly handled our party at six, with good service and lots of attention to detail; even on a busy Saturday night, my water glass was never empty. All of the food was fantastic and remarkably fresh. The only minor quibble would be that we felt $22 was a little bit pricey for a small grilled octopus appetizer portion, but with that said, it was some of the very best octopus we had ever tried. The grilled sausage appetizer was also very tasty. The whole grilled sea bass easily served two and was fantastic; the whole grilled branzino was a perfectly sized portion for one and very fresh and delicious. Side dishes of sizzling brussels sprouts and lemon potato wedges were also fantastic. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and drink menu and had helpful suggestions, and we enjoyed a great meal without ever feeling rushed. My family looks forward to returning next time they visit, and I'd like to return even sooner. We ate there on Saturday night and I'm still thinking about it on Monday afternoon, always a great sign.
Excellent food & service.
Restaurant wasn't crowded (6:20 on Friday) but we were jammed into a table for 2 which couldn't hold all of our dishes (and one place was missing cutlery). After we were seated we were ignored for 10 minutes before anybody came around (and no water provided). After we ordered we waited and then we had to ask for bread.
The saving grace was that the food was excellent.
Also, the table next to us, where the party was already gone when we arrived, had dirty dishes that didn't get cleared until we were almost done eating!
First time here and a great experience all around. Vibe, service, wine, apps, entrees all great. Looking forward to our next visit. Thanks to Panos for making our night special.
The best Greek food I have ever had! It is truly as authentic Greek as you can get!
Love the vibe! The food is fantastic and it’s a perfect spot for a special occasion!
Nice enough, friendly enough, clean. We felt the price for some of our dishes was a little high for portion size and the neighborhood.
I realize this place is new, but we are Greek food fans and we live in the neighborhood. The service was VERY slow and cumbersome. If it were busy, I could almost understand but it was virtually empty! I was surprised! Very few waitstaff running around crazy in a virtually empty restaurant. It was strange.
