Dinner was booked for a Birthday - No mention of that was ever mentioned once we got there. Waitress was a bit snarky and seemed to be rushing us so to turn the table. I ordered the Hunter cut of the Prime Rib at MED = I was served more on the rare side with the center still raw so had to send it back to bring to temp ordered and then it was very bland, and was not cut even as it was wide at the bone and then got thinner to the top of the roast. Au gratin potato's were just warm and the ceasar salad was almost there as it was just enough to cover the plate while the regular dinner salads that others ordered were heaping.
WOW. I have never written a review like this before. The restaurant was dirty. Dust, cob webs and spider webs everywhere I looked. Dead bugs inside the lighting fixtures. Furnishings outdated and in disrepair. Prime rib was tasteless. Au jus has a bitter taste to it and the mashed potatoes tasted like whatever dairy was used, has turned. Again, a bitter aftertaste. The carrots in the steamed mixed veg looked like they used a veggie peeler, rather than slicing it or chopping. Had we not been there with guests, we would have left before we were seated. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like after what I saw and experienced. I am shocked they are even in business. Should have known that if they have last minute reservation for a party of 4 on a Sat. evening, when everyone else in North County was booked, maybe not a great spot. The only positive note is that the staff was very friendly.
Went with my family for my 60th birthday made reservations table was ready when we arrived .The service was great food and drinks were spot on !
Hunter is the best place for Prime Rib and their Steak Neil is the bomb. We love to sit downstairs in the bar area. It has a great ambience and lively feel. The upstairs area need some lighting, fireplace (more cozy) feeling.
Identified special occasion on the reservation and per request was provided a quiet upstairs area for an intimate proposal.
This place is a neighborhood gem. It's been there for years and has always been GREAT!
Excellent prime rib, among many other things! It's a cozy place too.
Food was great and priced great. Always enjoy our time at Hunters.
We had a nice light dinner and good conversation. We were seated in the main dining room and the wait staff was very attentive. Always a good choice.
Our server Dina was outstanding as usual. Very friendly, courteous and accommodating. Look forward to coming back.
This place has been here a long time. Really good food, good service
Great place to eat. First time expreience. Food and service was great.
After being seated we waited 10-15 minutes with out anyone offering us water or asking if we would like to order cocktails. Then our server came to our table and was ready to take our dinner orders, never once asking if we would like drinks. The dining room was swarming with gnats/fruit flies and we spent the entire time we were there swatting them away from our food and drinks. My sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce was so tough I could barely cut it and ended up eating less than half of it. My husband, daughter and son-in law didn’t have any complaints about their dinners. After we had finished our entrees the server came out with a closed to-go box and set it down on the table and said it was a piece of chocolate mousse cake. It was my son-in-laws birthday and he is gluten intolerant - the server didn’t bother to ask him if he would like a piece of cake or something else. I had hoped for a more festive dinner, perhaps a scoop of ice cream with a candle or something else that my son-in-law could actually eat. We had been to this restaurant before and were happy with our experience there but this time it was so bad I doubt that we will ever go back.
It was my birthday and I acknowledge it when I made reservations but there was no mention when we walked in. I always have liked a good prime rib on my bday and Koko beach is now closed so I chose Hunters. We saw our waiter 2 times during the 1-1/2 hour we were there. He even came at the end and apologized for the lack of service. I will never dine in there again which is a shame and really feel that I was short changed especially at $30 a plate.
Luv the ribs and the lamb but their fillet is still the best around! Been going there for 10 years for our date night and have never been disappointed. We prefer eating down stairs, casual warm environment.
Such a great little restaurant, it's been there for a long time.
Great food and great service. We had a ton of leftovers. Unfortunately with only outside dining available (not their fault) missing a bit of ambiance.
The set up outside was nice with the lights and tent, just don’t know why they didn’t use cloth table clothes. The table clothes were plastic, maybe for easy wipe up? Don’t they use cloth inside?
Other then that service and food was excellent!
When I'm traveling to San Diego this is a must stop. The Prime Rib is superb and their horseradish sauce is outstanding. The food shows that homemade taste and quality.
The appetizer was very good. All of it was good - but for the price and for what you get, you expected more. The veggies come with a huge broccoli stalk (if you order that) and my boyfriend and I both left it behind since it is hard to cut, eat and wasn't cooked through. We know other places we could have received more bang for our buck, but wanted something more quiet and intimate, so for that it fit the bill. Both of us got the ribeye, which was good, don't get me wrong. Probably won't be going back when we want to have an awesome steak dinner, if that makes sense.
Hunters was excellent as always ! One of our favorites
Disappointing. Slow service, fatty tri tip, bugs in overhead chandelier and overpriced. No thanks Hunter Steakhouse - poor experience.
We ended up all alone in the tent outside the building. Everything was great, and it was a very pleasant dining experience.
I was a little taken aback, when the couple left to our side and the person cleaning the
section, did nothing other than spray the cloth with Lysol and wipe off the top of the table....the people had their hands all over the top of the booth and on the seat....
The waitress did not have gloves on, and she gave me a straw unwrapped and with her fingers.
I'm not paranoid, just really wondering what level they really do go to for sanitizing.
I also have eaten out in restaurants since covid and have always been handed a disposable menu..... this one was not a throw away. It was plastic coated, however in light of what I witnessed from the staff in cleanliness, I would question the sanitizing.
The FOOD HOWEVER IS STUPENDOUS.
Was Great food was Fantastic I recommend going
Family enjoyed surf and turf
In a relaxed atmosphere
My father and I were very happy with their service and our waiter was outstanding
Sat at the downstairs bar and it was a perfect date night.
Thank you. Wonderful
Excellent prime rib as always. Felt safe with new health measures. Thanks
Our favorite dining place. Menu choice is very good. food is delicious!
Zac was a fantastic server. Courteous and encouraged us to ask for what we wanted and he would do all he could to accommodate. We hope to return and see Zac again. The forest mushroom chicken is delicious.
Great place as
always, plenty of room even with social distancing!
I meet my brother there about once a month for lunch. It is always an enjoyable experience. The staff is very friendly. I will continue to visit there for a good meal.
Service was excellent and the food was great!! We will be back😃
If you want reasonable delicious quality food, then this the place. Try it you'll love it
The food was just OK not great or even very good.
Good food and atmosphere, great service and delicious champagne!
Jeanine was our waitress and she was great. She was friendly and warm. The food was good and a great value.
I eat here often and I would rank all categories good or very good. Service wasn't this time; normally it is. Unaware, too many tables, made excuses, false flattery, just own it.
We chose Hunter because we were in the mood for steak and the open table rating said it was cozy - i took cozy to mean relatively quiet but now I know it means everyone is packed in tight. It was very noisy! Very hard to have a conversation without yelling. The steak was average - certainly not worth $30 a plate. The children’s mac and cheese looked like it came straight out of the Kraft box. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed and while I don’t expect personalized maitre d type of service at this class of restaurant I was surprised at how terse and cold the wait staff was. Ordering was so rushed I felt like we were on an assembly line. The bathroom, while generally clean, looked like it hadn’t been attended to all night.
Plus side: the food did not take a long time and the wine we ordered was good (we got 7 Moons).
I think this is one of the best prime rib restaurants and will definitely go back again.
