We offer Bosnian (Serbian, Croatian) cuisine, which is balanced between Western and Eastern European influences. Bosnian food is closely related to Turkish, Greek, Italian and other Mediterranean cuisines. However, due to years of Austrian rule, also influenced by Central Europe. Typical meat dishes include beef and lamb, but we offer a wide selection of seafood, salads, as well as delicious deserts and coffee.
Some local specialties are cevapcici (are absolutely delicious), Kajmak, Bosnian Style Oven Roasted Veal, Bosnian Mix Plate, Wienerschnitzel, Pljeskavica and Crepes. We also bake delicious house bread, fresh, every day.

We came to Sarajevo Restaurant to try authentic Bosnian cuisine and were not disappointed. We were greeted by the son of the owners who established the restaurant. He was very engaging and knowledgable of not only the menu but also answered our questions about his homeland. We are considering a visit to Sarajevo and found his information very informative. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to taste authentic and well prepared Bosnian cuisine!
For a Saturday night the restaurant was almost empty. After eating I could see why. Almost all of the meals were over cooked and not very well flavored. Our family and friends are very adventurous; we will try any cuisine but this place gives Bosnian food a bad name.
Easy parking. Walked in greeted by the owner with a smile and got a table right away. Ordered an appetizer and got it in just couple minutes. Entrée was served 15-20 minutes from the order time. I mean what else could I ask for. Food is very delicious and very reasonably priced. I will be back again. Thank you.
We were warmly welcomed when we arrived at Restaurant Sarajevo. There were three in our party. Our waitress was very helpful in guiding us through the menu. We started off with the Cold Appetizer Plate and the fried Calamari. We enjoyed these dishes very much. We also enjoyed the Garden Salad to share. Everything tasted very fresh! Salad dressing was minimal, perfect.
We then decided to share two entrees among the three of us so we could share different items. They had a special that night of Lamb Shank with vegetables, slow cooked, fall off the bone, description. We decided to order the Lamb Shank and the Bosnian Mixed Plate. The lamb shank arrived on the combination platter and was so small for a lamb shank and very dry, not fall off the bone, reminded me of a leftover one that was heated up in the oven. It was not juicy at all. The mixed plate included some nice sausages and a good chicken schnitzel, but the chicken medallions were also very dry.
We shared our disappointment with the waitress and asked her to pass it on to the chef. We also told her that she had shown us great service, no reflection on her for the entrees.
We would go back again but perhaps only go with appetizers to share.
Lovely neighborhood gem! If you live in the Ravenswood Manor/East Albany Park area this place is a must! The owner's daughter was our server and she was great! She made us feel comfortable and was very accommodating to our needs. The bread and cheese that it is brought to the table is delicious! The lamb and beef sausages were very flavorful and cooked perfectly! FYI it's BYOB.
My dining partner and I split three dishes: a cold meats & cheese appetizer, a feta salad, and a mix plate. The food was very tasty, and the service was excellent. Complimentary bread and farmer's cheese were served to start. The appetizer, salad, and entree followed at a nice pace. I particularly recommend anything with the feta cheese in it -- I loved it on the plate and on the salad. The farmer's cheese was great too.
This was my third visit and I find Sarajevo to be consistently good food. The service is excellent. The owner, his wife and daughter all work together to make your experience very pleasant. I will return to this warm and comfy room with great tasting European style food. It's BYOB so the dinner is very reasonably priced.
We cam here because of the good reviews and to explore a new area of the city and try Bosnian food... we were very hesitant walking up to the quiet lonely looking place on a Saturday afternoon.. BUT to our delight it smelled SO GOOD and had good reviews on the wall from the Chicago Tribune and the staff was so friendly. We sat by the little window and had the chicken medallions, which were awesome. A unique flavor for sure, but great! The Feta salad was perfect to share as a starter.. we would go back if we were in the neighborhood.. and glad we tried it!
Great little place that I had seen driving by,however never thought to stop. Based on a review here, we sent for a birthday celebration. We LOVED IT, and will go back! Great food and friendly service. As we could not figure out what to try the owner made suggestions and we picked, it was served family style so we could try a bit of everything. Have to say delightful!
I was celebrating my birthday with my mom. It was the weekend so the restaurant was empty when we got there but picked up after a few minutes. If we had visited during a weekday it would have been packed. The food was delicious even this bread they serve as an appetizer. Well worth visiting.
The food and service were excellent! My friends and I traveled from the south side to try Sarajevo Restaurant and it was worth the trip. The owner, Enes, was extremely nice and gave great service. His wife is the chef and makes fresh bread that is delicious along with the stuffed mushrooms and cheese buric. We truly enjoyed our meals. We will definitely be back! I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as we did... Just remember it's BYOB so bring a nice bottle of wine to enjoy.
we had reservations for four on Thursday night at 7:30 PM (through Open Table) and were looking forward showing Bosnian food to our out of town company - we arrived on the dot to find the restaurant closed with out having heard a word from them that despite having our reservation they would be closed - we were very disappointed because we like the food here and were looking forward to some of the specialties- but that kind of treatment (you couldn't pick up the phone?) really steams me and I doubt we will return anytime soon -
I've been here quite a few times over the years and have always had a great experience. Bosnian cuisine was unfamiliar, but I certainly have enjoyed everything I've had. The home made bread, with herb and garlic olive oil, the smoked meat plate, the meat centric entrees and the dessert crepes are all superb. BYOB is just icing on the cake.
My first exposure to Bosnian food. We ordered the cold appetizer plate & a salad for the table. Both were zesty with a variety of tastes & textures. I had the chicken on croutons which came with rice & potatoes. Two people ordered the Cevapcici sandiches with creamed spinach (which was served at room temp - the only real criticism) and the 4th person ordered oven-roasted veal. The presentation of each dish was careful and the flavors were very good. Finally, we finished the meal with the apple roll & nutella crepes. All of the food was tasty. Our waiter was friendly & willing to tell us about his Bosnian-Chicago experiences & his opinions & thoughts about visiting Bosnia.
As many times as we have eaten there we are never disappointed. We started with a potato & onion pastry which was outstanding & they moved on to sharing a Mixed Bosnian Plate (which was a nice mix with great flavors) and Chicken Wiener Schnitzel (this dis is probably the BEST Chicken Dish we have ever had - the breading was seasoned perfectly, the chicken pounded thin, but juicy, flavorful and with a nice crisp, but not greasy outer coating - can't wait to go back to have it again!!!!!
Overall, the food was great, the service very nice and because it is BYOB it is very affordable.
I was a bit disappointed. The food was not good at all. Service was just as bad. There was only one more couple eating and yet I had to wait a long time for everything. I was never asked how the food was tasting. Never got a refill on my drink. Just very very poor service. I would not recommend it to anyone else.
Took my beautiful wife here for her birthday (we couldn't get in for Valentine's Day). Our failure to get in previously peaked our interest. The food was great! I had the Bosnian sample plate. My wife had the Cevapcici(sic). The waiter was kind enough to gently explain to my wife that her dish was not traditionally eaten like a sandwich, but rather tearing off little bits and folding them on a toothpick. I thought it was very nice that he did that. Also, we learned how to pronounce "Cevapcici", though I've already forgotten. We left stuffed and because it was BYOB, not broke. Sadly, we were too full to have desert. I hear the crepes are a big reason to go there.
This restaurant is very small, has a capacity of 60 people at a time. I reserved a table and waited at least 30 minutes before I was sat after the reservation time, but to be fair there was a full house and only one server. The food was incredible, cooked to perfection. I loved it! The service was great, very friendly and polite. I would definitely recommend it, especially for a nice date night. It has a very romantic atmosphere.
This was the worst restaurant I have ever been. The waiter was beyond rude, it took him 45 min to even bring menus and water, 2 h before we even had appetizers... and no one even tried to apologize for the delay. I simply do not recommend this place. Do yourself a favor and do not go there. They ruined our evening.
I always order the fried calamari (so fresh and cooked perfectly) and the grilled brown trout (deliciously seasoned). The homemade bread with cream-cheese/butter and secret recipe olive oil is also divine. Be prepared to EAT when you come to Restaurant Sarajevo, or bring a lot of people so you can share! The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner or a large group. The best part of the experience by far is interacting with the owner and chef--he's very charismatic! Restaurant Sarajevo is really a hidden gem. Reservations or calling in advance to make sure they are open is definitely a good idea, as sometimes the restaurant is closed for private parties, etc, but that said, there are usually tables available on non-weekend nights.
