About Restaurant R'evolution

Serving Dinner daily, Sunday Jazz Brunch and Lunch on Fridays Restaurant R’evolution is the first joint venture of award-winning chefs John Folse and Rick Tramonto, offering modern, imaginative reinterpretations of classic Cajun and Creole cuisine. Steeped in the diverse historic and cultural influences of Louisiana, the menu features not only the chef’s interpretations of New Orleans classics such as gumbo, po’ boys, and beignets, but also new creations highlighting ingredients from what Chef Folse refers to as “the swamp floor pantry.” Table-side service components play an important role in the dining experience, promoting guest engagement about the history and evolution of the food they are enjoying. Soups such as Creole Louisiana Snapping Turtle Soup and Death by Gumbo play on unusual presentations of these traditional dishes that date back centuries. Desserts showcase classical New Orleans sweets done in a new and contemporary way.

Phenomenal food and outstanding service
All courses were outstanding
Excellent selection of wines by the glass
The tables in the open kitchen section featured a continuous view of a soda fountain and boxes stacked on the floor as the doors swung open repeatedly
Ask to be in the front rooms unless you enjoy this type of distraction
Otherwise a great dining experience

Always knew you were great for dinner, now we know you are equally exceptional for Sunday brunch!!
The noise issue wasn't under your control---it was a crying child which was somewhat disruptive to the mood.

We dined here for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Everything was wonderful. Wine list extensive and amazing wines. Crab beignets app amazing. The death by gumbo was highly recommended and good, but not as great as I’d hoped. Salad delicious. Scallops entree is amazing. Highly recommend he bread pudding & creme brule dessert. Whoa. Service impeccable. Bread delicious. Loved our corner booth and the feel of the restaurant.

The last time I was in New Orleans, R’evolution was the hot restaurant and I was unable to get a reservation, so I was looking forward to my meal. What a disappointment! I had packed my suit anticipating an early morning departure and came in jeans. Nice wine by the glass list. I ordered (more on that later). I received an amuse bouche on a tablespoon. Later I saw patrons around me being served an elaborate amuse bouche. I asked what they were and was told so. Disrespect. Upon ordering, the waiter recommended the crab beignets. I specifically asked if they were mostly breading or had significant crabmeat and was assured they did. They did not. I had fish the 2 previous nights and oysters for lunch so I ordered rabbit schnitzel, again on the waiter’s recommendation. It came paper thin, nearly flavorless, with mustard artfully arranged around the perimeter, but not enough for even the small portion of schnitzel. A dollop of cabbage. The small, but adequate amount of spaetzle was good. When the waiter and later the manager asked how things were I answered as above. To their credit, they did subtract a portion of the bill. Still, I would not return and suggest you save your $ for some of the other fine New Orleans restaurants.

This is the second time I've eaten at R'Evolution. The food and service is off the charts good. It is expensive but worth it. It isn't "typical" New Orleans fare and is right down in the quarter near Bourbon Street. The service was as good as the food.

Disappointed with overall experience. Waiter was very attentive when we first arrived and then disappeared. Drinks were good. My wife had duck which was cooked to temperature but uninspired. There was not any sauce other than a small amount on the skin of the duck. My dish was quail which was over cooked and about the size of a canary. There were 3 different styles of quail on the plate. One was “Southern fried” and was all breading with essentially no meat. The other two were disappointing. One was stuffed with a rice filling and the other was glazed with some sauce that had minimal flavor. My wife ordered a espresso and was told that the machine was broken. The server said he would check to see if it was repaired and never returned. We ordered a desert to share and wanted to have espresso or coffee with it. The scoop of ice cream melted and the waiter never came back to get coffee for us since the espresso machine was still out of order. The bill was $200 and I walked out hungry. New Orleans has too many great restaurants to make this experience acceptable. Find another place to eat.

Upbeat, great staff: Travis and Colin. We got great advice on food and drink and great time was had by all, including the delicious meal. Tried new dishes which were well plated and delicious. Would definitely go again.

When we arrived to celebrate our tenth anniversary, we greeted the hostess who responded by saying” What name is the reservation under?” No greeting, no warmth even though it was our 4th time there. The restaurant was very slow so I was confused why she was so cold!

The hostess mentioned our anniversary on the way to the table without even a glance towards us. Food & beverages were adequate, service slow. No one bothered to ask if we liked anything- neither wine, appetizer, entree or dessert. No further mention of our special day at all and my view throughout? An old cabinet with the hostess plodding back and forth to drop off piles of menus. So much for that!

It has been a few years since we have been here hoping it might work out its problems, but it hasn't. The service was awful, the time between courses was forever, the wine list is a nightmare. This is a bad restaurant. I do not recommend it for any occasion

The title begins the adventure. R' evolution. Our last night in NOLA and we were treated with professional warmth and with great attentiveness to detail. 4 wonderfully qualified server for our table making the experience comfortable and welcomed. The food was extraordinary. The elegance and artistic presentation was up to par. The flavor was elegant, complex and a carnival for our palates. For some the portions may have been small, but we felt the quantity of food was perfect for our evening. Will return for a special occasion or for a wonderful dining experience.

We recently had Sunday brunch at Revolution. The first faux pas was having to wait 15 mins for our Bloody Marys and a mimosa. Next was the grilled oyster appetizers, in which 2 of the 6 did not contain an oyster, or if it did it had shriveled to nothing. To the credit of the waiter, he brought another 6 perfectly cooked ones. The soups were like warm. There were four guests. We split 3 apps, 3 soups one entre and one side. In addition to the Bloody's/Mimosa, we drank 4 glasses of champagne, 4 beers and 3 coffees. Our bill w/ tip was $400.00. Very disappointing for a local to bring 2 family members from New York, both of whom attended Tulane Univ., and were in town for their 10th College reunion.

Sent back cocktail because improperly made and got back the same poorly made cocktail. Fish was overcooked, dry and undersized portion for the price charged.
Corkage fee outrageous- $50 per bottle. Might be ok place for tourists but not for this local. There are lots of better choices in New Orleans.

Now I understand why they are rated No. 1. Every bite of food I ate was delictable. This food is what gave New Orleans the reputation for the best food. I much prefer quality over large portions I was pleasantly full & satisfied & would recommend every New Orleanian experience it. Can't wait to go again!

Six of us had dinner in this highly rated restaurant. Generally the presentation was elegant but the meals were disappointing. The fresh vegetables salad were tasty but entree’s including quail (tough), cioppino (flavorless), red fish x2 (dry and not special), lemon fish (also tough), and beef rib (OK). The wine list was extensive but the only New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was only on the bar list. Of the desserts the standout was the unique bread pudding, others were only ordinary. Avoid this expensive restaurant if you can.

We enjoyed a special birthday dinner here...our first night in New Orleans. We had made reservations in advance, and had stayed in the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Our plane was late arriving in from Detroit by about 80 minutes...which subsequently made us a about 30 minutes late for our reservation. The restaurant was busy, but thankfully the staff scrambled and set up a table for two. The maître D - I think his name was "Kevin" was very professional and knew the menu well. We went with his recommendation of "Death by Gumbo" as an appetizer. It was outstanding...and no wonder this gumbo has won many awards. My husband had the beef braising rib entre...I had shrimp and grits. Both were beautifully prepared, scrumptious. We didn't have room for dessert, but were treated to complimentary goodie box with trio of truffles, fresh baked cookies and macaroons. When in New Orleans next time, we will stay at the Royal Sonesta again...and treat ourselves to a 5* dinner at Restaurant Revolutions.
