One of the best restaurants in America!
Perfect as always! Nora, we already miss you so much and wish you, and your staff, the very best! xoxo
Wonderfully flavored calamari, fish dumpling and ceviche small plates. Also enjoyed cod main course. House red wine Katydid is great. Enjoyed it best at room temperature. By the bottle may come chilled.
My husband and I have only had good food at this restaurant. Sadly they are closing and this is Friday, June 30th is their last day open to the public. A huge loss for the city!
Our favorite spot. So sad to see Nora retire the restaurant, but it was great while it lasted.
A solid meal, although not particularly memorable. Very good. We would have liked an offer of bread before or with the salad course. Expensive for what we got.
Sadly they are closing. 😭
Although I ordered from the fixed price menu, the waist continued to pressure me as well as my guest to get another dessert, which would've cost more. Neither of us appreciated being pressured after already spending a good amount. For that to happen made the overall experience bad. They even brought my guest dessert silverware although my guest had already declined dessert. That type of pressure is rude and disrespectful.
Will miss Restaurant Nora
Famous DC restaurant, known as one of America's first organic restaurants. Very elegant, great food, pricey but appropriate. Owner is closing it down soon (in less than one week) after 35 years in business, so don't delay! Last chance.
I went to Nora for the first time 25 years ago and loved it. Over the years I've been and enjoyed it but I believe it is living on its initial reputation. The meal I had this week was disappointing on all levels. The room was very noisy and we were seated in the middle of it. The service was very slow and we had to ask for things several times. We were also told that they were running out of things including the wine we had ordered a bottle of and the dessert. Finally, the food was mediocre. My halibut was overcooked and my husband's scallops undercooked.
Once again the food, wine and service were outstanding. Definitely one of the best restaurants in the DC area!
Always so special and we will miss her restaurant terribly.
Wonderful! So glad to try Nora's cooking before the restaurant closes. Worth the wait and the price.
I do not live in DC, but try to go to Restaurant Nora every time I visit the district. The restaurant was not up to typical good service and food. First, I arrived at 7:10 for a 7:15 reservation. The hostess was not at the stand; so the manager checked me in. The hostess returned and sat two tables who came in after me before evening acknowledging that my party of two was waiting. Second, the server was not good. It took a long time between ordering drinks and appetizers before our order was taken. My dining companion ordered a salad to eat before the entrée. Our entrees came out first and then the salad. Third, the food was good as usual, but seemed like it may have been sitting for a while before it was brought to the table. I think this is a rare occasion for NORA, as my other experiences there (at least 12) were wonderful. I was told that the restaurant is closing soon, so the quality may reflect more experienced servers moving to better places.
Braised Lamb Osso Bucco was delicious, so tender and flavorful. For dessert, the combination of molten lava cake with ginger cheesecake made a heavenly bite! Service was attentive and warm, like being hosted at a friend's home. Wonderful experience all around.
Nora's was as I remembered: good food (soft shell crabs were superb!) and great ambiance! She'll be sorely missed when she closes at the end of the month.
I decided to try out Nora's because a friend of mine told me it was vegan friendly and really good but I was only offered one meal which could be made vegan which was the risotto and it was just rice and some chopped unseasoned veggies. There isn't a variety to choose from and I wasn't offered any non alcoholic beverages. My waiter seemed a little drunk and was walking into tables and chairs and we were not approached once we sat for a good 20 minutes. It is ridiculously overpriced for very tiny and flavorless portions. I honestly did not enjoy it at all.
Always loved Nora's but now that they are closing the food didn't seem to be up to their usual standards. I had the soft shell crab and didn't really like it. Service was excellent and ambiance, beautiful. I will miss Nora's!
Closing soon and the service kind of reflects that. The food is outstanding.
Unforgottable New York strip, with wonderful service
The food was nothing to write home about and was much more downsize than it should have been. The decor was straight out of the 80s
One of our favorite restaurants in Washington. Never a bad meal.
for a restaurant with such impeccable credentials, my own many years of patronage including birthdays and retirement parties, and *especially* with the restaurant closing in 2 weeks, the SO and i expected more attention to detail from the server. it is not acceptable tor her to overlook a simple gin and tonic, ordered at the beginning of the meal, so belatedly that it comes out with the diner's entree and is no longer appetizing. the generic "happy birthday" menu would be lightyears more personal with the simple addition of the diner's name, which i did provide via open table. other small details like this add up. for our last experience here, i was surprised and disappointed by the lackluster service.
Outstanding. So sad that it is closing
Wonderful in every way. I am sorry that I only discovered it when it is about to close. Standards really high.
Closing at the end of June. Glad we got to experience it before then!
It was a wonderful way to celebrate my daughter's graduation. The food was wonderful, the service good, and the atmosphere cozy. We decided a year ago to do graduation dinner at Restaurant Nora and it was worth the wait.
Small portion size, spent a lot of money and left still hungry.
My wife and I have been coming to Nora's for the past 26 years and have never been disappointed. As usual, the food was excellent in taste and presentation, the service quick and efficient. This is a restaurant where you can sit across from someone and be able to have a conversation in a low voice. A very nice place that I would highly recommend.
