The ambiance was lovely, romantic, and relaxing. When at capacity, the noise was more than energetic--it was a distraction and difficult to hear my partner. The food was quite good and elegantly presented. I would not get the pork dish again because it was not tender and somewhat dry--we did not have time so it was not returned. We would return, but are in no rush to do so. Thank you.
I'm a long time fan of Nora's, but this experience was really a let down. Despite having an open restaurant (early reservation), we were placed in a corner table so close to a table of four other diners that it was impossible to have a private conversation. The service crosses the line from leisurely to just downright slow (left waiting a wildly long time to ask questions about the menu and order). Finally, the vegetarian options were so limited that we ultimately had to skip a main course (though the starters, salads, and desert we had were delicious).
I haven't been to Nora in several years. It used to be my favorite restaurant in DC. This recent visit was horrible. The service was mediocre and the food was downright awful. Bland, overcooked, and generally tasteless. I was tremendously disappointed.
The first impression as I we walked in was, comforting. The hostess greeted us right away and was polite, also the general atmosphere was calming. Unfortunately we while we waited a few minutes for our table we decided to ask the bartender for a wine list and he gave us a look and walked away. Begrudgingly he returned with a list and said nothing. luckily the wait staff made up for this one guy! And the food was fresh and well plated. I especially enjoyed the tasting menu!! Great seal! The food was not heavy handed and we all left not feeling as though we'd just eaten a Thanksgiving meal!! Even dessert was delicious!
The back of the house did a superb job with the food. Now, if only the front of the house was up to the same standard. From being given the wrong menus when we were seated, to a server who couldn't get our drink orders straight and who asked me FOUR TIMES what I wanted for dessert, and finally to over-eager wait staff that hovered over the table, waiting to grab dishes away from us at the slightest sign that we might be done with that particular course, we had an uneasy feeling throughout our dinner, making it very hard for us to enjoy our meal. A restaurant like this one should not be leaving its guests with the feeling that they're trying to turn the table, especially within the first hour of being seated. Nora, you have some work to do.
Consistently good food. The service is far too rushed though; at a restaurant of this caliber, I like to take the time to enjoy my company and food. I felt like they couldn't wait to clear the plates and bring out the next course.
I had the best meal of my life here. I may never want to cook for myself again. My husband and I eat only organic at home and usually have to make sacrifices when we dine out. But not here! I had the tuna tataki starter, mesculin salad, and ribeye filet with a really nice glass of Cab. Every single bite was breathtaking. We're thinking about moving to DC now. :D
We celebrated a birthday and an anniversary at our favorite DC restaurant. The food, as usual, was outstanding and so was the attention to detail. Our special requests were honored. We appreciate the small yet meaningful gestures for our celebration.
Nora's is a great place and I always enjoy returning to eat there.
Our dinner Saturday night was wonderful. Nora's is a special, charming, neiborhood gem of a restaurant. The service was wonderful, very helpful and knowledgable. The food was delicious and beautifully displayed. Three of us ordered fish, which everyone seemed to enjoy, however my halibut was good, but not as unique as I would have liked and later regretted that I did not order the vegetarian prix course meal. The desserts were outstanding, we ordered 3, but the chocolate lava cake and the apple pie were out of this world!
My wife and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary at Restaurant Nora & were thrilled. The food, service and atmosphere were all exactly what we hoped. We had the salmon and the scallops as well as an appetizer & dessert, and all were fantastic. We loved it!
Our family lives all across the world, and this was our last night, fancy dinner together. Our reservation was for 8:15 pm, and we weren't seated until 8:35. It took them so long to bring our orders in, that they sent soup to apologize. We didn't eat until 9:45, by which point we were so hungry we couldn't even talk anymore. 2 out of 4 dishes were excellent, 1 was good, and the last one tried too hard and was just a confusing mix of flavors.
Generally, they seemed overwhelmed and understaffed, and there's no excuse at all for how long it took to serve our food. I expect much more from such a fancy, fine dining restaurant. I'm afraid my family left DC with a very bad impression of the foodie scene here.
We e-mailed ahead for our anniversary and while the service was great and the food quite good, we were set in the middle of a large noisy room which was not good at all. The food is best described as organic comfort food and was very good.
Fantastic dinner. Service was solid. We did have to refill our own wine glasses a couple of times but other than that is was perfect. Restaurant Nora is one of my favorites. This is how food should be prepared and presented. Perfect portion. Food was delicious and healthy.
Has a great special occasion feel which was what we were looking for. Great wine choice; perfect menu for those with interested palate.
Overall Nora's was perfectly adequate just not worth the price. We started off seating an hour past our 9:00 reservation watching parties the same size as us that arrived 15 to 30 minutes after us get seated first. Tried to let that not influence the rest of the dinner since it was a celebration. The appetizer of grilled octopus was actually quite tasty and flavorful but the second courses were bland. The ingredients were fresh and obviously of the highest quality but some salt or herbs or anything would have been helpful. Desserts were both okay. The server was over attentive some moments and could not be found others... 30 minutes for an appetizer after being sat an hour late was torturous!
What a wonderful experience. The food was superb - each and every item - and the staff is knowledgeable and attentive. If Nora ran a staff training program other restaurants would do well to send their staff to attend.
The filet mignon just melted in my mouth and I would love to have the crab and avocado appetizer again. I topped off the night with the peach pie. The crust was flaky and crisp but not dry. I was so stuffed after the tasting menu that I brought half of the pie home and had it for breakfast this morning. Just as good the day after. This is a fantastic and beautiful restaurant and I will visit again.
amazing meal at Nora's. definitely a top 10 meal! thoroughly enjoyed food, ambiance, service was most lovely.
I'm a native Washingtonian and love to eat but somehow had never been to Restaurant Nora. I finally made it happen and went with great expectations - unfortunately, I was grossly disappointed. We were sat in the back room which we found to be depressing and stuffy, our server, though nice, was fairly inattentive, and the food, which I was most looking forward to, was mediocre at best. Given the price vs. my enjoyment level, I will not be going back but I'm sad that that's the case. I wanted to have an amazing experience and it just wasn't. That said, we appreciated the surprise complimentary glass of wine we each received.
Wonderful all around experience. A must for special occasions.
Food was poor and they did not serve the correct veg entree. Sevice was pleasant
A must when visiting DC and for as often as possible for those of us in the city.
The service was remarkable- attentive but not over-present, friendly but not too pushy, anticipating our needs in an understated way. Very comfortable!
second time my wife and i went to restaurant nora and once again it didn't let us down. the staff is top of the line. being 100% organic it means a lot to dine at a place that cares so much about the food and where it comes from.
The food was outstanding. Unfortunately, the waiter was abrupt--not quite rude, but definitely not gracious. Also, given the prices, the decor is a bit rustic. I recommend that owner redecorate and train the waiters to say things like "good evening," "please," and "thank you".
My wife and I ate here for our anniversary. It was the perfect pick. I had the four course tasting menu and my wife had the four course vegetarian tasting menu. We were both impressed. The food was absolutely delicious. Everything is fresh, organic, and seasonal. What made Nora's so great was that it was delicious upscale food with plenty of vegetarian options so my wife could enjoy her food without feeling like an outcast. I would definitely go to Nora's again for a special occasion.
This is my favorite restaurant in DC. I have never had anything less than a wonderful meal here. I even had my son's college graduation dinner here, and it was delightful - the waitress was warm and friendly and the food was delicious. Our meal here 2 nights ago was also great - my only complaint was our somewhat obsequious (and less than attentive) waiter - but he is an exception.
I thought it was very good but it was a little pricier than it should have been. The wines in particular were a little high. It looked to have a fair price on the tasting menu but otherwise were about 15% too high for the ambiance provided. Glad I went, no pull to return very soon. Could be quieter.
Such and amazing restaurant with and awsome menu change daily.
Wonderful food...would recommend to anyone who wants a good well made healthy meal that's not heavy.
