Lovely meal and a beautiful restaurant. Strong gin and tonics but service was slow.
Nora is an experience no one should miss when in DC. The quality of food is superior and wonderfully prepared. Every dish is balanced for the palate.
best rissoto since Italy, fresh beets, great presentation quiet ambiance
very pleasant. we enjoyed pre-theatre small plates
It had been years since we dined at what once was a leader in use of organic ingredients. The interior is peaceful and comfortable. The service is ok. The prices were absurd, especially given the mediocre quality of the food. Most of the entrees were at least $38. The appetizers were in the $15 - $20 range. At those prices, the service should have been impeccable (the appetizers had to be switched and at least one of the entrees arrived cold). And the food should have been outstanding. The fish was cooked well, but each of the two accompanying sauces was overly salted. The liver mousse appetizer was tasty, but the three pieces on the plate were sliced so thin, you could see through them. Definitely not shareable, which is what we did - mainly due to the prices.
Fabulous birthday for my fiancée. Wonderful good and superb service.
Have been going since Nora opened. Still great as on day one.
Love this restaurant and it breaks my heart that it will be closing sometime in 2017. It has been around forever and the quality has never changed.
Nora is a cherished institution but its food doesn't feel as though it has been updated in twenty years. While the service and the setting (we sat in the glass roofed annex) were delightful, the OK food really did not justify the $30 - $40 main course cost. For example the miso-glazed cod was on the dry side. Compare that with the equivalent dish at any good Japanese restaurant and Nora didn't fare well.
I don't think we will go back.
Very much enjoyed our evening at Nora. Had nit visited in 10 years, great to go back.
Nora's is a gem - service, food, and ambiance delightful - and not the din of most newer restaurants. Will hate to see it close.
Outstanding food and many incredible sounding choices. It was difficult to decide. Everyone in our party of 7 seemed thrilled with their selection. Full authentic food flavors leading to conversation about other amazing meals round the global.
Service could have been more nuanced- his approach felt rushed and pressured when the restaurant was relatively quiet.
We were in an upstairs room that had no ambiance, was chilly, and had poor service. I think they must have been understaffed. We were never even asked if we wanted a second cocktail or wine with our dinner. When we requested wine, it was never brought to us! The food, however, was tasty.
I would only return if given a table in the main dining room.
Menu is comprehensive and thoughtful. Food was excellent, even though it was not exactly what we expected. Ordered the cheapest wine on the menu, and sadly it was awful. Our waitress was perfectly adequate but not particularly friendly or helpful.
It was a beautiful restaurant with best quality food.
Unfortunately, 2017 is probably Nora's last year. Nobody does salads as well as Nora, and the fish was perfect, too.
We had an amazing meal here, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I can't believe it took me this long to make it here for a dinner, but it was well worth the wait and build up in my head!
It's hard to understand the negative reviews Nora has received after the outstanding meal we just had. From start to finish, the entire experience was excellent. There was a slight miscommunication about one entree and without us saying a word, the manager sent over a lovely soup while the entree was being remade so that everyone at the table could begin their dinner. That kind gesture made a real impression. We're already looking forward to our next visit.
We enjoyed dining at Restaurant Nora recently. I am sad to hear the restaurant will close once the owner finds a new owner to take over running a certified organic restaurant. Until then, definitely visit Restaurant Nora! The food is so good! We got the calamari as an appetizer and for entrees, my husband got their ribsteak and I got their rockfish. Everything was so delicious! What a special treat for date night. Thanks!
Very good Good
Absolute Perfection! From the minute we walked in the door. Amazing ambience, delicious food, fantastic dessert, terrific wine. Charming servers.
The food was quite good but the service was truly awful. We had no server for 20 minutes. After I complained, the Asst. Manager took our order. Given that I was treating someone to dinner, I was mortified.
Our experience at Restaurant Nora was a beautiful end to a great weekend. The food was delicious and the options were outstanding for my gluten allergy. Highly recommend for business, family and friends, or date dining.
Nora, soon to be retired, has been an amazing restaurant in our community (near Dupont Circle) for many years. She brought Washington into the organic food scene, as if we were California. Somehow, I had missed this gem and was so pleased to enjoy the ambiance in her red brick building, the excellent food, and the opportunity to eat at what is now a famous Washington institution. The service was excellent, and every dish was just delicious. Our only surprise was that the wine, organic of course, was quite pricey. We selected the wine made by Nora's son and it was delicious. Thanks for a memorable evening.
Outstanding meal and wonderful paired wines. Worthy of the 5 stars. A great experience
The service was fabulous. The staff was attentive and alert yet, not overbearing or intrusive.
The fish and seafood dishes we ordered were cooked to perfection. The textures were spot on. The entire place was spotless. The only reason I did not give outstanding on everything was that two of the desserts we ordered ( the chocolate walnut cake and the molten chocolate cake) were both a little dry. Everything else was wonderful. I would definitely go there again and feel comfortable recommending it to anyone.
The salmon was exquisite ! Each trip to D.C. We dine at Nora
We enjoyed the food but were disappointed with the value and limited if not nonexistent ber selection.
We both had a salad and they were delicious with a nice balance of flavor and texture. She had the butternut squash app and was pleased with the portion but unimpressed with the flavor as it fell on the bland side. Tough to accept for a restaurant at this price point.
I had the lobster with risotto and while flavor and sauce were excellent, I found the portion to be just a bit small for an entree. It was filling when factoring in the walnuts in my salad.
A word about the atmosphere. The dining room seating required a check in at street level followed by a walk down the block to another entrance and up a flight of stairs. Kind of bizarre but not off-putting.
The wine selection started at above average and up to quite expensive for a glass. This isn't typically an issue when there are a couple of craft beers available to choose from. None to be found here so I hope you like wine or basic lagers.
Ultimately we did enjoy the food we ordered but it was not by any means exceptional for how much we spent. I would not go back to this spot and would be much happier with average food at a third of the price.
The service was not good. I had a cocktail & then requested wine. Before I could say what kind I wanted I was delivered a glass "what you had before". (Someone else at the table had ordered). Different servers and seemed disjointed. Beet salad was good. Lobster & rockfish dumplings tasteless. Went here as nominated for lifetime James Beard award. VERY disappointing. Should have paid attention to the reviews which were all over the board. Excellent restaurants are consistent.
Birthday dinner. Service was warm and inviting. Delicious fresh food. Presentation was perfect. A Washington must. Healthy, organic, delicious.
I went for a birthday dinner and we had so much fun! The food was excellent and the service was prompt. We will definitely come back.
We celebrated my daughter's birthday and were treated with personalized birthday menus. The food was amazing, and the wine pairings were excellent! Great service, great food, great ambiance.
Excellent food but expensive.
The service was great, the atmosphere was great, the food was amazing! Highly recomme Restaurant Nora.
Had been a few years since we were here. Great to see that Nora is, if anything, better than ever before. Impeccable service. Can't wait to return at least once more before Nora retires!!!!
Delicious food, wonderful ambience and attentive wait staff. We enjoyed our evening very much.
My boss told me about this place. I was a little on the pricey side, but the food was good, the portions left me full but not stuffed, and the ambience was perfect for my wife's 30th birthday.
In D.C. for one night always try to dine @ Nora's
The service at Nora left a lot to be desired as they appeared understaffed and unknowledgeable. Servers had a difficult time answering questions about the menu and could not even confidently identify dishes that would have triggered an allergy of one of my fellow diners. Servers were often absent and food came slowly. The food itself was largely unremarkable. Meal temperatures were luke-warm. The vegetables were bland. Our after-dinner coffee was served barely hot, and after asking for a replacement, the second cups of coffee came back even colder. In all, to pay $40/entree, one would expect considerably more, especially from what was once a DC staple.
My son found this place by accident and we were not disappointed at all. The cocktails were great and our appetizers and entrees were cooked perfectly; the flavors were interesting and really balanced. Dessert was great too! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
