Restaurant Martin Ratings and Reviews
The food at restaurant Martin is always delicious. I cannot understand why it does not get a higher rating from open table. My duck could not have been better. Everything is a little unusual and creatively put together. Reception is warm. Our waiter was thoughtful in in discussing the food. It is hard to imagine a better dining out experience.
very disappointed. somehow the bar wine-by-the-glass had been put in the refrigerator and was VERY cold. The waitress wanted to hold the glasses in the palm of her hands to help warm it up. The wine never opened up. the waitress wanted to take it off of our bill. what ended up is after we said that we didn't want any dessert, the manage brought us a dessert instead of doing something about the wine on the tab.
$3 charge to split the salad. the food was good, not great.
After being very excited about visiting this restaurant - especially because of the horse shelter that he is involved in - we were very disappointed.
Always fabulous! My friend had the crab cakes and thoroughly enjoyed them. I had the roast beet salad which was superb.
The wines by the glass are a solid selection of middle to great wines and the atmosphere is quiet and comfortable.
We didn't ask for bread and none was served. I think our server should have asked if we wanted any. the meal was excellent.
This place is expensive as hell, but completely worth it!
We went on Thanksgiving, for a special family event. We had vegetarians (well, pesca- lacta- vegetarians) as well as meat eaters. The dinner presented to us was a perfectly balanced, with flavors form a variety of sources that seemed like they always belonged together. Our entire family, a mix of meatatarians and vegetarians, left the dinner completely sated.
We enjoyed our meals. She had traditional Turkey, I had Sea Bass. Both very good. Your waiter Jesse 'pushes' way to hard to herd people through the dining experience. Last thing I want to pay for is some server steering me through my evening. a 20% gratuity is perfect....for a dining experience, where the customer is felt attended to, not just served.
Sharpen your knives, there are many dining options out there.
Our reservation was at noon (when the restaurant opened) we were there 5 minutes early and the door was locked. They made us wait outside in the direct sun until 12:05 when the hostess unlocked the door, which is a problem because my mom is on oxygen and can only stand for a very short time. The hostess was rude and acted put out when she greeted us. After being seated, things did get better. The food was good and the presentation excellent. My only other complaint is that the added a 20% gratuity for our table of 3.
Lovely meal; wonderful service. A table of less than interesting people was next to me; their boorish conversation was loud and unpleasant. But everything else was absolutely marvelous. The vegetarian special selection that day was amazing ... the roasted beet salad was divine. Fantastic wine selection, including many half bottles, which is so appreciated for smaller parties.
Loved it so much that I made a reservation for the following week! Julian, who is utterly charming, was my waiter and the service could not have been better. The entire staff was wonderful. Great restaurant all around.
You won’t be disappointed!! Delicious vegetarian tasting!! Lovely setting in the annex. Great wines and altho the Molten chocolate cake was neither warm nor molten and very dry tasting we had a great experience. There is probably a better dessert available —we just chose incorrectly. The wait staff was apologetic about the cake but it wasnt a deal breaker. We will be back next time we are in Santa Fe and I’ll probably buy their cookbook if i can find it online. :-)
I'm a regular business traveler to Santa Fe and decided to dine out on Friday night at the last minute. Could not get a reservation at my two go to places, both almost 5 star restaurants of great reputation in the food and beverage scene, and Restaurant Martin was close by and I had read about the chef. I'm ever so glad I dined there. This is just an excellent dining spot in every way. I read some so so articles on this and that, but my experience was excellent in every way. It is not unusual for a single diner to get lost in the bustle of a busy night, but that was not the case at Martin. My server and her help were terrific. The food was beautiful to look at, and simply delicious.
This experience did not live up to our previous experiences. Salmon in Cobb salad tasted fishy. Coffee wasn’t refilled timely. Mistake on bill. Double billed salmon Cobb salad. We will give them another chance, but if this was your first time there I doubt you’d go back.
"Fine dining" (Not)!
If you're naive enough to believe the positive ratings people have (supposedly) given this restaurant, then I feel sorry for you. It's pure "HYPE". First of all the restaurant itself has no atmosphere and is not designed for intimate dining; quite the opposite. There is only one booth that offers any privacy or quiet. It also looks like it was put together on a shoestring.
We live in Santa Fe and had always heard very mixed reviews from friends who also live here. We finally decided to see for ourselves ( lunch) and found the whole experience beyond disappointing.
Bad salmon; WAY over-priced in general, to mention just a few observations. At these prices they don't serve (or offer) bread at lunch. How cheap is that? Add to that $32 for a SPLIT of Mionetto Proseco with a beer-bottle cap (which retails for $5.99)!!! What unbelievable greed and total ripoff! I understand that a restaurant usually marks up wine but never to this degree!
So take my advice, save your money and eat elsewhere. Places like this are nothing but tourist traps or for the totally UN-discerning.
Martin is one of our very favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. This most recent meal was the very best among many memorable ones. Can't say enough good things about the entire meal (three courses). My only lament is that it seems like the prices are creeping up to Geronimo territory.
We're going to make this one a regular!
Last time we sat outside in the summer and it was divine. This time we had a cozy booth for three inside and it was perfect. And then the food -- creative, fresh, beautiful to look, delicious to devour at and not too hard on the wallet. The wines by the glass were excellent too.
Restaurant Martin was very good. It appears to have been a house formerly and is a little small with 3-4 different rooms available for dining. I had a hamburger which was very generous but I asked for "Medium" and found it to be pretty rare. I did not send it back as it was already assembled when served and it tasted very good but was too rare for my taste. My friend had an omelet which she said was very good. Our Mimosas were tasty. I have a severe shellfish allergy and MANY of the items on the Brunch Menu contained shellfish and were off limits for me. With so many other restaurants in Santa Fe, I'm not sure how soon I'll return but I enjoyed the meal.
Excellent food and service. The entrees were outstanding - unusual ingredients skillfully combined resulting in a unique experience. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Wine list had a nice list of half bottles, something unusual, but very welcome.
Our only "criticism" is the limited parking availability. The restaurant's location is a little outside of the main downtown restaurant area and out-of-towners (like us) didn't feel very comfortable parking on the dimly-lit, empty streets around the restaurant.
What a nice restaurant. Great food and prepared elegantly. We arrived early and they still seated us right away. Jesse was great--very friendly and worked like a dog. Everything is prepared beautifully and all dishes were great. We selected the vegetarian option and were not disappointed. Tuna tartare was delicious. Only one complaint. The restaurant was full capacity and they didn't have enough servers. Even though they all worked very hard, they needed more servers to meet the capacity. We waited for a long time for our main course to come out. But overall, very nice experience and highly recommend.
We had detailed service with attention to detail. Chef Martin is highly creative and flexible. For example we loved a crab appetizer that was not on the present menu. He improvised a version with shrimp that was delicious. My appetizer was oyster with pork that was exquisite.
The Angus beef was great and I had the chef special with an exotic fish that tastes like sea bass perfectly prepared with unique prep on the accompanying veggies.
We started the meal with a wonderful French champagne and Mary Edwards red wine with the meal. The ambiance was elegant and cozy. We just love our dining experience from gastronomic artists with a sincere care of our well being.
Restaurant Matin is always a "must-do" when we are in Santa Fe. Martin prepares interesting, unique dishes. My pork loin was a bit overdone, which was a slight disappointment, but my wife's dish was on the money. Service is attentive, and you will see innovative combinations of flavors that make this a memorable dining stop.
