Always just perfect!
Great food and service horrible ambiance. We were put in room that felt like box. Nothing to look at,no windows purely to expand capacity.
Celebrating a special Birthday! Cozy and quaint. Amazing food and wonderful service. It lives up to the hype in the beautiful town of Maplewood.
Excellent food and perfect service. What a totally memorable evening!
Anniversary dinner with my wife. Great service from walking in the door through getting our coats to leave. Service was prompt, friendly, and unassuming - which is a sign of a really good team. Food was fantastic. Beet salad and crab crepe apps were both well-flavored without being too rich, and just the right amount of food. Venison entree and sea scallops were cooked to perfection. Seasoning and sides were great as well - paired very well with the main, without being bland or overpowering. Definitely a special occasion meal, but we'll certainly be back.
Great menu and food is always very good, with wonderful flavors and sauces.
Just amazing meal... you enter another world.
The food was amazing as usual, especially loved the Halibut! Service and ambiance is wonderful!
I do not really write many reviews but felt compelled to write one regarding this restaurant. As an avid diner who has traveled the world to eat quality food and drink amazing wine I have to give this restaurant a very high recommendation. The food was top quality and the ambiance very charming. Attention to detail and service was incredible. I look forward toy next meal there.
We wanted to celebrate our anniversary with something really special. We had heard on line about how good Lorena's is so we decided to give it a try, even though it was an hour drive. Lorena's didn't disappoint. In fact everything was perfect, the food is delicious, the ambience very soothing and our waiter, Mario, was so friendly and attentive--perfect service, Mario. It is a little expensive but in this case you certainly get what you pay for. We even got a free dessert to celebrate our anniversary--nice touch.
Lovely little spot. BYOB. Service was excellent, and food was delicious.
This our go-to restaurant whenever we want to celebrate. The food is consistently creative and delicious! The service is just as outstanding as the food. Never a disappointment.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Will definitely go back.
Amazing as always. We go 2 to 3 times a year and always get a great meal with great service.
Spot on once again. Been several times and the kitchen and staff have never missed
Most of the staff were new to me but they didn't miss a beat. warm and attentive service as usual.
As usual, the food was perfection.
Flawless as always
Everything about the evening was perfect. I felt as if I was sitting in my own dining room.
The service was outstanding as was the food.
Definitely will come back for an occasion.
Loren as as ever provided a wonderful meal. On this occasion the service was a bit slow from a new waiter but the quality of the food remains consistently very high.
We keep returning to Lorena's not just due i'ts food, but the service which is always on point. Would have given higher accolades, but this time around my entree which consisted of the venison sirloin, was very much subdued by the lack intensity that a cut of venison should have, in other words was missing the "game on game". And when paired with spaghetti squash- which in my opinion, is a the blandest of the squashes- well... one is left wanting. Perhaps this is due to following their customer base, but why have venison if it's going to taste like filet mignon? My husband on the other hand, had the duck breast and loved every bite. And as always the crab crepe and mushroom bisque, the best! Overall, very good and will return.
The service was EXCELLENT!! The food was EXCELLENT!! Overall a wonderful French cuisine restaurant!
This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were happy with the food but disappointed with the service. For a high end priced restaurant we expected first rate service, however, after arriving and sitting for at least 10 minutes with no attention at all we began to think we were invisible. Finally we asked for water and to have our wine opened (it's a BYOB). We also had to ask to get menus after waiting longer following getting our wine opened. The food was excellent, they just need to improve on the service.
Service was wonderful and attentive. The salads and appetizers were amazing. Not all that impressed with quality of the Filet Mignon nor the Rack of Lamb which were both fairly dry. Black sea bass was awesome.
The exquisite food and service said it all. This was my first time to Sunday brunch. Whilst I was seated in the front part of the restaurant, the side room had a large group of people who basically let their children run wild. Not the fault of the restaurant, but it was annoying that people would bring children to a very upmarket restaurant and let them run around and carry on. I have never experienced such a thing at Lorena's before and trust It was a "one-off" situation.
This is a very special and perfect place to eat l. The food is fabulous. This is fine dinning without a doubt.
Beleave me when I say you will love this place. A perfect atmosphere great costumer service and very fancy :)
Excellent!!! Very creative menu.
Food is good overall but not very creative. Room is very tight and somewhat crowded.
One of the best dining experiences! Food was excellent, service was great and the atmosphere was wonderful! And..It's local!
Been to Lorena’s many times. Love the creative signatur dishes such as the crab meat crepe which is delicious. The food is very high quality and usually well prepared. This time my husband ordered the fois gras which was superbe, but had too sweet a sauce of curants. I ordered the crepe but it seemed to be cut in half. Maybe I never noticed this before, but I noticed. I had the halibut which was a bit overcooked and again in a puree type sauce which was sweet. I don’t think the balance was good. My husband had the beef filet which he said was OK. We went with another couple who had the same appetizers, but the bass entree which he seemed to like. The desserts were a lemon tart which was just OK, perhaps not enough chantilly, and the chocolate cake. The desserts there seem to fall short in taste and size. Overall the portions seem to be getting smaller and the prices, getting bigger. They also had just the sweeter nut bread, but brought my husband some cut up baguete for his sauce. It was a Thursday night, but they usually have at least two types of bread. I will go back, but not for a while.
Lorena’s is one of the finer restaurants in NJ. Having eaten here a number of times in its existence, I have always been rewarded with an excellent dining experience. On this occasion I started with a Salmon tartar, followed by Scallops with a creamy truffle oil sauce, and finishing with their molten chocolate cake. I sampled their beet salad, pumpkin soup, halibut and duck as well. Everything was expertly prepared and delicious. The service was excellent as well.
Having eaten at a number of highly rated restaurants both nationally and internationally I feel Lorena’s hold its own among the best of restaurants. It is always a special occasion eating at Lorena’s. I look forward to my next visit.
Wonderful food and service can be had at his local restaurant. Very good for a birthday party.
This is my third visit to this restaurant, but certainly not my last. The food is superb, the service is brilliant, and it is a delight to not have to shout to be heard by your dinner companion. I would heartily recommend this to anyone.
Lorena's is the kind of place you wonder why you don't come more often. It's worth the drive. I had fish, my wife had lamb, both were perfectly prepared. The space is comfortable. The wait staff is super: attentive, friendly and knowledgable. Lorena's is a real neighborhood gem.
Food is AMAZING and Love the quiet and intimate atmosphere
It's nice to get NYC quality food in the burbs, which is what you get at Lorena's. The owner and waiter were superb. The bus girl needs to learn how to place knives and forks on a table. My meal was perfect. The fois gras was crispy on the outside and like butter inside. My rack of lamb came perfectly rare and tasty. It was a lovely meal for a birthday celebration. Highly recommended.
How nice to return to a true fine dining experience in New Jersey. Quiet, subdued with truly professional service. Food is carefully prepared and presented, with obviously fresh ingredients and amazing blend of flavors and textures. BYO makes Lorena's a good value too.
A must when in the area (or even if you're not).
We’ve been there several times and we have been rewarded each time with a very special meal in a comfortable environment. It’s worth every penny and more.
Wonderful time food was top notch . Would definetly go again highly recommended.
Really outstanding meal - food was great (my wife said that the market salad was one of the best salads she has ever had!) and the service was refined without being at all stuffy. Ambience is quiet enough to have a conversation yet consistent with a fine French meal. Cannot wait to go back - it's definitely a special occasion place, but don't want to wait too long.
