Restaurant Le Continental Ratings and Reviews
Exceptional evening all round. Fantastic specialized service. A great experience having your steak cooked at your table. Sebastian our main waiter/chef excelled at explaining the process of copper pot cooking with French sauces to make definitely one of the best steaks ever. Incredible wine list. Dessert to die for.
Formidable scotch menu.
We have dined at Le Continental on a number of occasions - every time it has been wonderful. On this trip, my wife's birthday, we were joined by friends from Dallas who had heard our praises of Le Continental. We were not disappointed. It was an exceptional evening from start to finish. Our waiter was knowledgeable of the extensive wine list and talented in table-side preparation of Caesar salad and flambé filet mignon. The beef was exquisite as was the halibut. I cannot say enough nice things about our evening at Le Continental. See you next January 2 for another birthday dinner.
We loved this restaurant! There is a large range of dishes available. My husband had the shrimp neuberg, which he thought was delicious and I had the sirloin with the mustard sauce. Both were cooked table side by our waiter, Matthew who was very accommodating, answering all our questions and made the experience that much more enjoyable. This is a great place to take your time to eat, and the atmosphere is outstanding and fun at the same time. The food was delicious and it was nice that the steak other dishes were accompanied by a side of vegetables and that everything was not ala carte. They did have sides available also, such as creamed spinach and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. My husband loved the onion soup, and I had the carrot soup which was also very good. The second time we had the lobster bisque which was not heavy and "sauce like" with too much heavy cream. We liked it so much the first time, that we came back again, which is something that we never normally never do and had the chateau briand. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection, the mushroom sauce was perfectly seasoned and did not overpower the meat. The wine menu had many different types of wines, in different price ranges, accommodating many tastes and price points. Both times a lovely meal. Very old school french with tableside cooking. The sugar pie dessert was just so delicious. Sweet, a little bit of crunch, just perfect. They also have some tableside made coffee drinks that looked delicious and was ordered twice by the table next to us. Everyone in the restaurant was having a great time, and the atmosphere was very jovial. The service was great and they do a great job of all of the little things that count, like refilling the water glasses, replacing the silver with each dish, not being intrusive and it was great fun to watch the others patrons having their dishes made as well.
Traditional "old school" French dining experience - Chateaubriand, mushroom sauce, vegetable medley, diced potatoes - all well prepared and very delicious. However, the waiter was snarky and his pacing of meal was poor. While sipping our pre-dinner cocktails, the salad arrived along with the bottle of wine we ordered for our meal. No time to enjoy each course. The entire meal was very rushed.
We went here over the Christmas holidays while we were on vacation in Quebec City. We were a little hesitant to come here because of the prices, but after our meal there were no regrets whatsoever.
We started with the French onion soup and the scallops and shrimp appetizers. The scallop was cooked to perfection and the broth was superb. The soup had a generous portion of cheese and a very tasty broth.
We then had the filet minion and the catch of the day. The filet was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The gravy on it was also delicious.
We finished with the cherry jubilee dessert. It was good but it was not my personal favourite. Nothing wrong with the dish, but I apparently do not care for brandy.
The service here was exceptional! The waiters are all very attentive and are very willing to answer all of your questions.
If you can afford to eat here then it is an absolute necessity!
Excellent. Superb service. When in Quebec City you must dine here. My friend said the table side cooking of her filet mignon was best & my Dover Sole was delectable. Dessert divine. Beautiful elegant & we NYC girls hard to impress. Far bette than overrated Chez Boulay which was mediocre. Le Continental was best restaurant in QC & service sublime as well as courteous. Formidable 🍽
Absolutely phenomenal, I’ve travelled quite a bit and eaten in a fair few upscale restaurants. Le Continental is by far the best meal and dining experience I’ve had thus far. The food exquisite, the service impeccable, the ambience is that of a lost era where dining was an experience unto itself. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Very good service, but the food is nothing special. We ordered shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, and a salad to start, and we got salmon, flambé shrimp, and filet mignon for dinner. I never mind spending on a great meal, but nothing stood out here - the soup was good; the wine was probably the best thing on the menu, but not worth going for the wine.
We recently went to Quebec City for a getaway weekend and ate here at Le Continental from the moment we arrived we felt very welcome we didn’t love our first table (lovely but upstairs away from action) and they moved us to a great table in the main restaurant the drinks food wine and service was all superb out waiter and I would say apprentice service were amazing they really made a Saturday night feel like a special evening will definitely go back whenever we get back up there!
Second time to Le Continental... the food and service were still as good as the first time.... is my boyfriend’s first time here and before we arrive I told him the price range for this place, he kinda complain why are we eating so fancy, but before we even started on our meal, just looking at our waiter/chef cooking in front of us, he is already saying we will come back next year
Such a wonderful table side experience. Matthew is a pro and made our evening and first visit extra special. We will be back and I fully recommend that everyone go at least once for this dining experience that you can't find anywhere else. Everything is of the highest quality
Just not what it used to be. Came here 7 years ago and loved the old school French service with table side preparation . Certainly has become super touristy and feels like they are just going through the motions. Le Canard à l’orange was still quite tasty but the Cesar salad was so super saturated with dressing that it was inedible. We like to dine later and had an 845pm res. They were really not interested in making us dessert or an after dinner drink and felt like they were forced when we ordered. If u want the old school preparation then still go but if you want truly good food then head to L’Initiale
