About

in April of 2008, restaurant iris opened its doors in midtown memphis as the lifelong dream of our chef and proprietor Kelly English and along with an amazing team achieved a special relationship with our community and helped usher in a new era of restaurant culture, along with our colleagues and friends in our town and industry. Our goal is to know not just how but why food ended up on a table and where and who it came from.

in 2018 we have taken a new look at who we are as a team and our collective vision of what restaurant iris is and should be. With a completely new lens through which we view our charge, we are excited to bring you restaurant iris, brand new again. We invite you to experience restaurant iris, simplicity at its most elegant. Please note: Due to the limited capacity of our dining room, we offer limited online reservation availability. For more information regarding availability, please contact the restaurant directly. Brunch available only select dates.

Iris was good, as it has been for years. However, if you've been to the "old" Iris before the renovations, you shouldn't expect the same as before. The food is fine but not quite as fine dining as it was before. The rooms are more open--so you're kind of sharing the meal with others (this isn't really the best setting for loud talkers). Everything I ate was good, but nothing blew me away like the old menu used to. Our waiter was fabulous, the drinks were good, and there weren't any issues. Compared to pre-renovation, I like this Iris less. However, if this is your only Iris experience, I'm sure it will be fine.

There’s a reason why everyone includes this restaurant on their best of Memphis. It’s an outstanding meal. I had shrimp and grits with a poached egg and it was delicious. It was a very nice Mother’s Day brunch. They might benefit from having one or two more things that could be for the non-meat eating or gluten-free crowd, as my wife had a delicious meal but she had to pull out some of the components due to her allergies. Even providing an option to toast would be a good add.

We had an amazing dinner! Mary Katherine was an excellent server! We both had the Waygu beef and it was great!!
My only complaint is that we wanted the oyster stuffed steak we had when we were here several years ago.
We will definitely go back!!!

We had a fabulous meal and the staff was great, very knowledgible about the food and preparation. He made very good suggestions. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was good for us to have a great time visiting with each other. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

We had been to Iris several times before the renovation. The food is now nothing like what it used to be. “Flatbread” was some cold marscapone on grocery store pita. Entrees didn’t impress either. Plain and bland. Iris used to be inventive, creative and good. Now it’s just disappointing.

Great romantic spot. Entrees & Salads were tremendous. Great wine and cocktail selection. I felt the appetizer selection was sparse and only average for the price. Overall a great date place or special occasion for 2 people.

The hostess and a waitress were hospitable. Our server wasn’t very friendly nor did he time the meal appropriately. Had he been friendly and brought our bread prior to our starter the whole experience could have been excellent. The food was delicious. The molasses bread is one of the best breads we’ve ever eaten. The fixed price menu was a value and the wine list was a nice variety at a nice price.

When I made the reservation, I requested a quiet table but we were seated in a room next to a large party of all men who were very loud. We asked to move and were then seated in a quiet room with no other diners. Don't know why we could not have a table in that room or some other quiet area to start with per our initial request.
The dinner was not good. The menu is limited and that's ok. However, I ordered scallops which were not available but were listed in the hand-full of entrees.
My husband had Halibut. The portion was generous but plain but and without additional accompanying items. I ordered a rack of lamb dish. I only eat lamb that is throughly cooked so I requested that it be well done. But it was served to me bloodly and bright red in the middle. For the first time ever at any restaurant, I sent my food back.
That did not make any difference-it had lots of gristle and not a good cut of meat. We were given a free dessert due to the almost raw lamb. The dessert, small fried donuts, was also not good. The only good part of the whole dinner was my cocktail. We were there to celebrate my husband's b-day. Needless to say, we will not return to Iris! A big disappointment!

When making our reservation it asked if there was an occasion we would be celebrating- I noted Birthday. OK, so they put some little streamers on the table. We were the 2nd table to arrive and were placed in the back room of the restaurant which I thought odd since we had made reservations and wondered why we were being shoved to the back. We were offered wine but did not want any but we were never offered anything else to drink, only water, with no ice. The items on the menu are very limited and extremely overpriced for what we were served. We ordered an appetizer and the waiter did not wait for us to order our entrees, turned on his heels and left, leaving the menus in front of us. Someone else brought out the appetizer and left. We ate our appetizer with our menus still in front of us and finished it. Had to sit there 10 minutes before he came back to take our entree order. I had the Halibut and my friend had the Scallops. Presentation was nice but taste was unremarkable. Halibut was dry and black on the top - this could have been from the spices that were cooked on but it wasn't really very pretty. After we finished he came and took our plates. He offered to bring a dessert menu - no offer of any birthday dessert or anything. Just a little something for the birthday person? I guess the streamers were enough? Anyway, I had been wanting to go there for several years and now my curiosity is quenched, not very well but nevertheless it is quenched. For my money there are much better restaurants in Memphis. Restaurant Iris is the kind of restaurant people go to for special occasions and it fell very short.

This was my first visit since the re-opening of Iris. I took a long time friend to celebrate her birthday. We both were very excited. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I have dined at Iris on multiple occasions, including some very special wine dinners and my 60th birthday celebration. EVERY experience was always exceptional. Tonight was anything but exceptional. In fact, that is the problem. Two of the 7 courses that we ordered suffered from seasoning issues, but the common thread was mediocrity. Not a word I would normally associate with Iris. The Turkish poached eggs ended up being more like a soup that needed to be eaten with a spoon, rather than dipped with the flatbread. The crawfish beignets were overcooked and lacked any elevated touch. The charbroiled squid was cooked well and very tasty, but overwhelmed by the abundance of creole mustard. One would think that at least one course would evoke a "wow" this is amazing....nope, not one! The closest response was for the foie gras with duck fat risotto, but even a dish so decadent was lacking in the wow factor. The Halibut was over salted...almost to the point that I should have sent it back. The filling in the shrimp dumpling was delicious, but the dumpling itself was overcooked and chewy. The edamame was the highlight of the halibut dish..but certainly not worth the $38 cost. The Wagyu beef was certainly not tender and very under seasoned. The saffron potatoes and bone marrow tartar shinned...but the star of the dish should have been the beef. The chocolate toffee doughnuts were also a disappointing end to our dinner. They were overcooked, and dry. The salted caramel and chocolate ganache was almost nonexistent on the plate....but what little we could taste was yummy. If there was a wow factor to be found, it was in the complimentary "birthday macaroon." For a dinner costing $200 before gratuity, I want and expect at least one "WOW" factor.

By far the most wonderful evening we had in Memphis! Restaurant Iris was absolutely a delight--fantastic food--still dreaming about the foie gras risotto. Our server--Hillary, I believe--was a delight. So helpful with the menu, our plans, and genuinely friendly and caring. They even remembered to "decorate" our table for my husband's birthday and helped us celebrate. A night to remember for sure!

I had heard a lot about Iris. I was given a very nice gift certificate for the restaurant for my wedding. We finally got to go, and the food was really good. The service was top notch for sure. Of course, the restaurant is very expensive, but I was surprised how much drinks were. The drinks were as good as they could be, but no drink is really worth $17. we had craw-fish beignets for a starter, then we shared the asparagus salad. I like it, but my wife did not. I had the Kobe beef with potatoes, she had the scallops with all the beets. Both of us enjoyed our entrees a lot. The beef was as good as it could be. We shared the deconstructed lemon meringue pie. It was just perfect. I would not choose to go there if I were paying myself, simply because I didn't feel the whole experience was worth that much. I read a lot of reviews before going and was looking forward to trying some of the dishes mentioned in reviews. However, the menu had just been changed the day before we ate. I think a restaurant with this level of reputation should try to leave a few favorites on the menu. That way, people can look forward to trying the most famous of dishes. It was really good, but maybe didn't quite live up to the hype. In addition, the seating was not very comfortable in my opinion. The chairs are made so that we could not hang our purses on the back and they had to be placed in the floor, and the chairs are just not very comfortable for the type of dining experience where most like to linger.

First time there since renovations: Food was good/Bar with Parks was terrific-a real pro
Our server Jim was MIA most of the evening-our water glasses never got refilled. Couldn't find him to ask questions once the order was taken-he seemed to focus on another table that ordered wine. He forgot the salt and pepper. There was no bread served with dinner.
NOT a WHITE tablecloth restaurant any longer. Black formica does not warrant a $400 check for 4. Plus alcohol. Would go back for the bar,not so sure for the dining experience.

This was our first visit to Iris since the renovation and it certainly didn't disappoint. The place looks terrific and the food was sublime. Truly, every dish was a delight; from the polenta sticks and the crab Beignet to start, then on to the decadent risotto and the most buttery, delicate halibut I have ever had. No dish was overly fussy, and thank goodness, the halibut was not gooped up with toppings and sauces.
The wine selections were lovely, and we splurged on dessert - kind of a de-constructed lemon meringue pie that was the perfect end to our perfect meal.
While Iris is not cheap - this now ranks as one of my top-of-the-list favorite restaurants

First time to visit the new Iris, before the renovation I thought it was the best restaurant in Memphis. Now? not bad but not great at all , everything was adequate but nothing special, service was ok at best food was ok but nothing special. A little bland, not much taste. No complaints just not good enough to go back considering the alternatives in Memphis.
