Marvelous as always, a can't miss dining experience where elegance meets best chef, best service, best restaurant. Chef Kelly English, no stranger to excellence in his approach to food and the customer experience, shines. Our server, Mary Catherine was wonderful and always a treat to see Kelly in the dining rooms greeting customers. My resolution is to plan ahead so we can repeat often.

As always, everything was phenomenal! It was the perfect place for our 28th anniversary. As a matter of fact, it has become the perfect place each year for our anniversary. Thanks again for a great dinner!

DH and I went to Iris for a pre-theater dinner. Mary Catherine was our server, and she was wonderful, explaining some of the newer items on the menu and making some recommendations. I started with the squash salad, which was a variety of squash in different preparations, garnished with some pomegranate seeds. Delish! For our entrees DH had the surf and turf with shirmp and gouda substituted for oysters and blue cheese. This is a HUGE dish, the steak was perfectly prepared (I had the rest the next day for dinner). I had the scallops with broccoli puree and beurre rouge. I had never had a beurre rouge before, and it accentuated the scallpos perfectly. I should have spread it on my dinner roll as well. For dessert we had a spiced bundt cake with a creme anglaise. The perfect end to another perfect meal. Thanks Iris!

Possibly the very best restaurant in the city of Memphis and competitive with top restaurants in other cities. Excellent food and service and a warm attractive setting.
Highly recommended.

I ordered the house specialty - a New York strip stuffed with fried oysters and topped with blue cheese. I was very disappointed. The oysters were good, but the New York strip was almost tasteless. I ordered the steak medium, but it had been cooked only enough to keep it from bleeding when I cut it. The steak also had a sauce that I think was supposed to be wine-based but tasted more like barbeque.

In addition, the restaurant was too hot. I will not return, and I will not recommend Restaurant Iris to anyone.

We would love to dine at Iris more often, what a special space indeed. Time and finances don’t allow anything but the one or two times a year occasion. But when we come it’s always a delight.

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. We read so much hype and were expecting something special. The food was definitely not special. It was very overpriced for the quality and quantity that we were served.

My wife and I were celebrating my birthday and have only read great reviews about Restaurant Iris and were very excited about visiting here for the first time. We were not impressed. I hate to be so critical but there was nothing great about the food here.
The appetizers were the best part of the night and they were just okay.
We ordered the shrimp and grits and the surf and turf at the recommendation of our server (who was outstanding and very knowledgeable) The shrimp and grits had a very smokey smell and taste. Maybe that's what they were going for, they succeeded. It was unlike anything we have had and not in a good way. If you like that campfire smokey taste then... order the shrimp and grits. The surf and turf was just not good and this was their signature dish. I ordered the "strip" medium and it was cooked okay, very charred. The problem was the meat. No flavor. And I don't think it was a good cut of meat. Maybe the worse steak I have had anywhere. Maybe just a off night, being a Monday, don't know. I just know that we didn't finish either entree and were disappointed at our choice of restaurants. We are just not a fan of the full smokey flavor of shrimp and grits and that may be just a preference. But no excuse for the strip being that bad.
There are many great reviews so it is difficult to write this one, but wanted to give our opinion.
We live close to Memphis and frequent many restaurants there. We have traveled many places and have had great meals from Seattle, New York to London. Don't think we would return.

We had a wonderful dinner. The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. Our waitress was very kind, professional, knowledgeable and personable. She knew drinks, food and the restaurant history. The building was decorated wonderfully. The drinks were strong but not overwhelming. The food was prepped to every expectation. The portions were not so huge that I was miserable stuffed but perfectly full. The desert drink we ordered was one of the best I have ever had. Thank you to this restaurant for a wonderful dining experience.

The food was good, but for the length of time it took to get a reservation, I was expecting a truly spectacular meal. While the meal was OK, it wasn't worth the 6-week wait to get a table for a Saturday night seating at a decent time.

The service was quite good starting with a charming valet parker. The hostess was very accommodating--especially since our 4th dinner guest had to back out just before we arrived at Iris. Our waitress, Shelby, was extremely kind and patient & did a great job at taking care of us. And we really enjoyed the warm rolls.

The cocktails were good. The wine list was fair but there weren't many offerings under $60 per bottle, which seemed inconsistent considering the menu wasn't that pricey.

The menu was eclectic; we really enjoyed the starters--especially the lobster sandwich and the short-rib stuffed ravioli. For dinner, one friend ordered the duck, which he requested with very little salt. When the duck arrived, it was far too salty to eat--it seemed like the request for less salt was met with defiance or at best simply ignored by the kitchen. My other companion had the steak stuffed with shrimp. It was a very large serving. I had the same, and while tasty, it too seemed salty. Over-salting sends up a red flag that either the meat is inferior or there's a lack of creativity with other flavors or seasonings.

For dessert, we had the bread pudding and chocolate crème brulee. The brulee was very good, but the bread pudding was dry--even with the sauce. The best part of the meal was the after-dinner drinks. They do a wonderful iced cream Brandy Alexander and they have a good selection of cognacs.

Fantastic dining experience. We chose the 5 course "chef selection" - which is the way to go! You can try 10 different items from the menu (if you and your date will share) paired with some really nice wines. This was a wonderful date night - Thanks so much

An excellent high-end Restaurant. Iris is located in a renovated house and has two small rooms with small-mid sized tables, making for a very intimate feel to the atmosphere. There is valet service, and the Overton Square parking lot is right across the street. The wine list is impressive, and though it focuses mostly on Domestic wines (from various parts of the US), these will not be your typical run-of-the-mill wines you'll find most anywhere else. Expect a bit more depth and character. There is also a fine selection of featured cocktails (and presumably beer too, though we stuck with the wine).

The food is french-creole influenced, and so you can find exotic items, like Bone Marrow or foie gras, on the Menu, which we were given the impression changes quite regularly. Of course, there were plenty of non-exotic items, involving beef, lamb, fish, etc., as well. We took advantage of a special 5-course tasting menu, offered on week-nights, which consisted of a salad (this will not be an iceberg lettuce and cucumber affair), two appetizers, a main course, and dessert. The menu is not set, and the waitress will ask about your particular likes and allergies to tailor the menu items to you individual taste. They always brought out different options for each course, meaning we could swap plates if we discovered one of us preferred the dish initially given to the other. The food was all exceptionally well prepared, with plenty of attention paid to the fine details, and the pace of the evening very relaxed but never delayed. An all-around amazing restaurant. Just keep in mind, the price matches the quality, so you may need to reserve this restaurant for special occasions, and be sure to reserve a week or more in advance, as they fill up even on a weeknight.

Truly a delightful evening. This date night for my wife and I turned out to be quite special. The food, wait staff, parking valet, softly played/largely Memphis-based music soundtrack and total in-house ambience added to an experience that will be remembered for a long time. We recommend a visit to Restaurant Iris to anyone living in or traveling to the Memphis area.

First time visit, chose it from online reviews and was not disappointed. Food was excellent, unique items and presented well. Nevada, our server was personable and attentive. We would dine again when in the area.

Surf and turf was outstanding--NY strip stuffed with fried oysters with secret sauce. Red snapper also fantastic. Service top notch. Very small dining area in old house converted to restaurant. Only thirteen tables--a little crowded in two small rooms, but still okay. Recommend valet parking otherwise you'll have to walk across busy street. Outside of restaurant may not give best impression, but inside and food excellent. Driving from downtown not best neighborhood, we were having second thoughts about going, but turn out wonderful.
