Restaurant IPO is an upscale restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana, that serves elevated Southern-style cooking and comfort food. Everything in Restaurant IPO radiates a sense of Southern class, charm and refinement. The lighting is warm and low, inviting guests to come in for a unique and flavorful meal.
The menu is full of delicious and ambitious dishes, often times with flavor combinations and ingredients that diners do not typically see every day. The Southern tapas are an interesting treat, as they are filled with bayou eggs and bon temp shrimp. Another fun menu item is the duck poppers. These are bite-sized balls of duck, cream cheese, jalapenos and bacon. For those looking for something more traditional, the Cuban sandwich at Restaurant IPO is a local favorite.
Went here for the first time for our anniversary. The food and service was great! The place was a kind of loud and we were practically sitting with the table next to us. We loved the variety of small plates available and will go again.
Cool little spot in the heart of Downtown Baton Rouge. Food was AMAZING. I thought the service was a tad slow, but my family thought it was fine. My husband had the Duck - wow! and The rest of us had the Ribeye, so tasty and cooked to perfection. Super cool spot to dine, casual, very good vibe.
The food is awesome. We tried the Duck Nachos and Frites with blue cheese and truffle gravy for our appetizer and had the Debris Sandwich and Patty Melt for our entrees. The flavors are complex and everything is well seasoned. The only thing I would change is the beer selection, which seems to be lacking some variety. I live across the street so I definitely will be back.
I have been to IPO on several occasions and while service has never been exemplary, it has always been acceptable. Friday night was neither. I want to be clear that I do not believe that this was our servers fault. It seemed that he was the only server in the dinning room and was running everywhere. While this was happening someone who is presumably a manager of sorts, sat with the two hostesses doing nothing.
Furthermore, since its opening IPO has slowly gotten further and further away from being a tapas restaurant. I guess this is fine, I'm sure there is a valid reason, ie. money, for this. On the other hand your execution of your new menu was poor. It is no longer someplace I would want to go with a group order lots of small plates and linger over dinner and drinks. It's now just another restaurant, and not a very good one at that.
While the food is good here, I must say that the service is horrible! I've only been to this restaurant twice but the first time(a year ago) was amazing and that why we decided to return. We had reservations for 7 but got there a little late (around 730 due to traffic. our bad). However, when we got there, we were overlooked by 3 hosts for about 4min. After being seated, our server brought us water and took our order for appetizers. We came for the chicken and sweet potato waffle donut. To our surprise they no longer serve that so it took us a while to decide on entrées and appetizers especially given the limited menu. While we tried to decide on appetizers (maybe 7 min) my boyfriend requested a Sprite as replacement for his water. "No problem" said our waiter. We got our appetizers about 15 min later. We were not given any dinnerware to eat off of so we shared from the serving plates. When we received our appetizers we put in our request for our entrees. When we felt a large gust of wind(mind you it's fall now so it's about 50 degrees outside) I look over and realize that the door to the restaurant is wide open! I then begin saying "excuse me" to every server and host that walks near or by our table in an effort to get the door closed. The restaurant dining area is small(about 2000 sqft(I'm from a family of cement finishers. Lee's Concrete(Shameless plug)) so when I realized that the door was open I started to look around and noticed everyone was putting on their coats and bundling up with their partners in an effort to stay warm. I was able to finally get a hostess' attention and asked her"is there a reason the door is open?" She responded that someone had told her that they were hot. She apologized and said she'd close the door. After doing so, about 2 min later we felt another gust of wind. They turned the air conditioner on!! Finally, about 35 minutes later from receiving our appetizers, our food came out with Sprite my bf ordered. Good food though.
A party of 6, we ordered many things. The staff brought out the oyster dish. It was supposed to be cooked, but it was cold. it had clearly been prepped for the oven (or however they heat it) but never cooked. when our waiter finally appeared again, I told him it had not been cooked. He said: "I didn't bring that out" and ran off again. That was simply not acceptable and suggests a lack of training. All the same, I like IPO and will go again. If he had simply heated it or taken it off the bill, I would not have writen this review.
The food was top notch. This is a great date spot. The service was a little slow but they were also hosting a large event. Despite this our waitress was still attentive. The cocktails were awesome as well. Show up early before your reservation and have a drink first!
My mother and Brother were in from Boston so we had a table of 7, as dinner was served the waiter told me the entrée I ordered was out. Unacceptable, I asked them if they were out of anything when we all ordered, they should have been able to tell me then that I would have to order something else. I did not get dinner and was not going to wait while they cooked something else since we already waited a good bit despite not having many customers in the restaurant on a Tuesday night.
The waiter knew I was aggravated and should have sent the manager over, well finally my wife got up and asked the for the manager. He took care of the situation, but there should not have been a situation in the first place if they would have been on top of our order.
Our family has eaten here many times before but I will have to think about coming back for while.
Each time I've gone to Restaurant IPO something on the menu has surprised me and left me wanting more. This time was no exception. The menu featured soft shell crab sliders topped with fried green tomatoes and duck bacon. Wow! What a flavor palette! I also had the tapas sampler, which had several dishes not listed on the menu, along with favorites like boudin balls. I hope my favorites, duck wontons and bacon-wrapped dates, make it onto the regular menu soon. This restaurant just gets better and better with each iteration of the menu.
Interesting menu. Fit for someone looking to explore their taste buds limits. Though tapas thr plates are very well sized
Never a disappointment. Always great customer service, wonderful food, and amazing atmosphere for a night out with the girls or an evening out with honey.
My wife and I enjoyed the meal, as most foodies would, but if the portions were a might larger then I would feel better about the pricing of most items.
I enjoyed the blue cheese chips w/gravy, the flavors were spot on, but the chips were not. The muffuletta pizza was excellent and right sized.
All together we will be back, but will plan snacking later.
Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Baton Rouge.
The restaurant is designed nicely. The menu is kind of small but has some nice choices. I had the shrimp and grill tapas, both my sons had the mcdowell burger or something like that, my husband had the muffalotta pizza pie, and shrimp tapas. All the food we had was very yummy.
We tried five or six dishes and, while I liked some better than others, they were all really good. Definitely try the fried green tomatoes.
Amazing food! If you go get the fried quail!!! It was to dye for. Only place in Baton Rouge where you can get tapas!
Love having a new trendy place in town with new menu items. Heard it was a fun place with great food. Crabcakes were breaded mush, with little crabmeat. Blue Cheese wedge salad had maybe 1 tablespoon of dressing. Shoe strings fries were great. Not excited about going to dinner for fries!! The waitress did say they just changed their menu...they need to change it again....
Ordered the pizza called "The Wooded Hog". Wow! It was fantastic!
New menu items are wonderful but would like to see the mini tacos back on the menu. The bbq shrimp and grits was amazing, perfectly seasoned. LOVE the shrimp Bon temp . It's my favorite. Our waiter Nick was awesome, the best waiter we've had! We dine here about once each month and have always had exceptional service !
This place is definitely not as good as it used to be. The wine list is terrible and ridiculously overpriced. I ordered the Chandon Split and got half a glass of bubbles (definitely not the split and for the same 12 dollar price tag). Both the red and white wine I had were barely drinkable and all at 10+ a glass. All of our food was lukewarm and the flavors were just forgettable. It's fun with a large group of friends a bit later at night when one isn't focused on the quality of food. However, if you're coming in wanting a good memorable meal, this just isn't the place as the food is just utterly underwhelming.
would go back to. The salad was pretty boring. If I had to recommend it or had to eat there again I would only order the tapas. We had the spring rolls, which were pretty good. I ordered the tuna. It did not seem to be a very good cut of meat. There was too much going on with all the sauces on the palate. With the mashed sweet potatoes, it was just overwhelming to the palate. The cheese grits were a little chunky, not very creamy. My husband ordered the steak and said it was pretty good. Definitely nothing really standout about the place.
They did not honor a reservation that I booked online and reconfirmed by phone. Having called them to say we'd arrive at 9pm instead of 8.30pm, I was told it would be fine. When we arrived at 9pm we were told the restaurant stopped serving. Even though I'd talked to them an hour ago to make these arrangements. The hostess just shrugged, the barman was apologetic but more concerned about what this says about their establishment, and we went out into the cold night hungry and lost. Found delicious food and warm/efficient service at Tsunami instead.
The food was good but not great. The wait staff was very inexperienced and made many mistakes during the meal. The wait staff really needs some training. For the amount of money I spent I expected much more than what was delivered. I probably won't go back.
Though this was not our finest experience at IPO, one can rather understand why. They were simply overwhelmed by the combination of Valentine's Day, a very raucous Mardi Gras Parade with its aftermath and a Symphony gala that night. They were simply overwhelmed & probably a bit understaffed. Only big aggravation was that they denied us a dessert because we opted to dine on their small plates and not from their set menu. One would have thought that they should have had enough for diners eating on either menu.... All this being said, we'll be back again, I'm sure.
The food exceeded my expectations. The staff was excellent. We will be back!
Overall experience was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it. Food was outstanding and service was good.
Same great service, this time it was Jessica instead of Matthew, and had one different tapa from first time, and it was also very good. Definitely a place I'd go back to and try different selections from the menu. Noise level was high at times when there were large groups gathered in the open bar area, but still like the overall aspics of the establishment.
We always get Tapas / Small plates and share.. always plenty of fresh options. The Bread Pudding is very food.
Loved the menu selection and food. Filets were perfectly cooked. Table setup dining for two reminds me of dining at an airport, understandable because of the space limitations but prefer more space. Our first time dining experience at IPO was crowded due to Mardi Gras ball participants, thus it was loud and service was spotty and rushed. However, we will be back for a next time hopefully under normal dining conditions to get a true feel for the place.
We dined at Reataurant IPO for Restaurant Week in Baton Rouge. We had never dined there and thought this would be a good opportunity. One of the reasons that we chose Restaurant IPO was the Restaurant Week menu. Appetizers were great: 3 of our group had the fried green tomatoes and loved them. I had the chicken fried brussel sprouts salad. It was very good. For dinner 3 of our group ordered the Beef Wellington. This is the menu item that caught our eye and brought us to Restaurant IPO. You never see this offered on menus in Baton Rouge, much to my disappointment. The Beef Wellington was very good. The puff pastry was not as crisp as maybe it should have been, but was good none the less. My husband ordered the crab cakes as his entre. Although he said that it was good, the portion size was entirely too small. Two of our group had the fried white chocolate sweet potato bread pudding. It was very good. Two of our group had the chocolate dessert. It was OK. Only other thing to note was that when we gave our server our drink orders, two of the red wines we ordered were out. Our server said that it had been a busy week with Restaurant Week. I can understand that, but shouldn't it be anticipated? My second choice wine was not very good and was served in a small wine glass. For my second glass of wine I went with the wine that one of our group was having and it was much better and came in an appropriate size red wine glass.
Very impressed with IPO . The decor , atmosphere , food, staff , and overall experience was outstanding . I'll definitely return and highly recommend IPO to anyone .
I've been numerous times and leave a very happy girl!
Fabulous, tasty meal and great service. My husband's favorite dish was the scallop and mushroom soup. I loved the gnocci. We will be back!
My husband and I came here for a "date night" and it was just perfect. The food was really good - we only had Tapas so can't speak to the entrees.
We had Pequeno tacos (one of my favorites), Bon Temp Shrimp (good but a little gooey), Grits and Grillades (really wonderful), Southern Eggrolls (REALLY spicy), Duck Poppers (a must have) and Southern Gnocchi (one of my favorites).
Wonderful wine list.
We will be back.
Special NYE menu was wonderful! Great choices, and none were too heavy. Each dish was big enough to satisfy, but still left room for an amazing bread pudding! Service was perfect - attentive without being pushy.
Our experience was totally AWESOME! The bread pudding is to die for!! Please visit!! You will not be disappointed!
A great place to treat someone fro Christmas great atmosphere and concept
We had a business lunch to conclude a contract signing. Some in our group wanted a light meal with less spice and others wanted a full entree with all the favors of South Louisiana. The Tapas and entrees at Resturant IPO fill the bill every time.
The tapas was not bad. The service was incredibly slow and beverages were not refilled. Entrees did not come out at the same time and none came out hot. Food and service were not worthy of the price. Staff was not solicitous other than one brief stop/question after tapas was served.
Great service and a fabulous menu. The many great sounding dishes makes you want to go back so you can try something new. The bread pudding is to die for
