We had a 7 course experience. It was a 3 hour marathon of excellent food and service. A bit much for us as we did not realize the time commitment. If you enjoy a wonderful long fine dining experience i recommend highly. Service is beyond compare. Maybe 12 tables - quaint little hidden hem.
Gwendolyn's was phenomenal. The staff was amazing and the food spectacular. Our table had a view of the water and a window into the kitchen which was fantastic to watch. Everyone was in perfect sync and the presentation of the tasting menu was marvelous. Would definitely recommend!
A great evening, the staff was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, beautifully presented and interesting. It made for a wonderful birthday celebration for my wife that was enjoyed by our family immensely. Recommend Restaurant Gwendolyn for a great evening of food in a comfortable and friendly place.
Truly a great food experience, we went for the seven course wine pairing meal. The different species would explode in your mouth. A little pricey, but in my opinion well worth the money.
My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary with Restaurant Gwendolyn. It was an amazing treat. The menu said happy anniversary (nice touch). The wait staff is knowledgeable, courteous, prompt, and patient, without being pretentious nor arrogant. We felt comfortable asking questions about the food and wine choices, which were excellent. The flavors were unique and surprising, and the portions were great for the 5 course selections we made. Thanks for a great evening.
Unbelievably great!!!
Only challenge was sitting outside. May say stay inside. Guy above cussing ridiculously. Vehicle noise. Food though makes up for it. A huge go!!!
Our second visit. This is a top level restaurant that matches anything in NYC or Paris. A very special place. Transports you to another world. Tops in San Antonio.
Good was outstanding and Lauren, our server, took care of us so well. Truly a culinary delight.
Everything was perfect about the evening except for one minor thing. We didn’t have time to indulge in the tasting menu so we went ala carte (Tobin Center performance). Food, wine and service were amazing. Best restaurant experience in San Antonio, bar none! Lovely ambiance! We will go there again and indulge in the tasting menu.
One minor complaint. We got to the restaurant and there was no one to take our car at valet parking. My date called, we drove around the block and there was someone to take our car. This should not happen.
So so. 2 meals served undercooked from tasting menu. But only sent back the main course fish. Trainee waiter.
Excelente comida y servicio. El tipo de música seria lo único q cambiaría
Amazing. Great new tastes and trys for the adventurous diner
Cosy old fashioned feel with excellent food and service.
a true dinning experience. The food was delicious, freshly prepared & worth every penny.
We really enjoyed this restaurant and our visit to San Antonio. Wait staff was very attentive. Co-owner helped come up with a menu that was dairy free for both of us. Entire meal was created to work around our restrictions. Very nice strawberry, coconut, granola, sorbet dessert! Highly recommended. Thanks!
Absolutely fabulous. We had the 5 course tasting menu and were seriously impressed. From the inventiveness of the tomato and strawberry gazpacho to the perfectly cooked beef and pork with excellently paired wines. Leaving with a taste of pink peppercorn sugar brittle. Great service, ambiance and location. A meal to remember.
Amazing food as always with exceptional service and attention to detail.
Great food, pretty pricey, but I am the frugal one in the family.
The only gripe is the awkwardness of the wait stafff. The restaurant was super quiet and only one other table was occupied when we first arrived (we were eating early). The wait staff seemed to be coming every few minutes to check on us throughout our 2.5 hour dinner (we did the 5 course meal, $75/person). It was awkward and hard to have a normal conversation.
First time there – will definitely be back again. A unique restaurant that has certainly earned its good reputation...
This was experience I have never had just phenomenal. Our server Andrea was just outstanding
Restaurant Gwendolyn serves the most unique presentations. And they are delicious as well. Always love the wine selections chosen by Jenn to go with my dinner.
We decided to sit in the window next to the kitchen so we could watch the chefs cook our food. It was very entertaining and interesting watching them create a delicious dinner before our eyes. The food is wonderful and so is the service. Our favorite restaurant in San Antonio!
Restaurant Gwendolyn is very unique in that they use techniques from years ago. No electric gadgets, including coffee maker! We had the 7 course tasting menu with wine. The staff was formal, but friendly. All of our dishes were excellent/ Even though there were 7 courses, the portions were perfectly sized so it was not too much food.
Never a disappointment. I lived here when it opened and come back whenever I am in town. Food is so thoughtfully put together and wine parings are also done very well. Everything is so fresh. So much fun and makes you feel so fancy no matter if you only brought your jeans on the trip.
First class. Number I in this market for fine dining. We will be back. These folks know what they are doing and we have seen it all.
Always a great experience at Restaurant Gwendolyn. Service, Food, and Quality cannot be surpassed.
One of the best in San Antonio. The rabbit and chickpea pupusa was incredible.
Exquisite Valentine’s Day experience.
Wonderful friendly staff. Fresh, tasty and unique food.
This restaurant is wonderful! Friends and I have been there twice for the 5 course menu prior to the theatre - there is just enough time if you work at it. The 7 course menu requires too much time. We had three of us this trip, which was great because we were able to try everything on the menu. We also added the wine pairings! The appetizer and soup were set and very tasty; we had a choice of salads - although neither truly was a salad but both were delicious; we had all three of the main courses, pork chop, quail, and fish - the quail was delicious, the pork chop perfectly cooked, and the fish had tremendous flavor. We followed the up with three deserts and coffee. You HAVE to get the coffee...what a fantastic meal! Need to go back for the 7 course!
Excellent service and attention to detail
Food tastes were distinct and well pronounced
We had a fantastic experience! Everything was not only delicious but cohesive and felt like an edible art collection. Our server Nick was impeccable and didn't skip a beat. His passion for food and concept of your restaurant really enhancing our dining experience. Thanks again for everything !
Excellent service, excellent bread pudding desert. GIANT cheese and charcuterie- had we known it was that big, we wouldn’t have ordered dinner. Several of the charcuterie items were fantastic (sausage , beef pate, goat cheese, honey,) some were not so much (pickled egg, peach. Dinner was unremarkable in flavor
Though presented beautifully. Biscuits and gravy were good though nothing special. Very expensive for what you get. I probably won’t go back.
Gwendolyn does a good job. Micheal s is a creative and imaginative chef coming u with tobacco ice cream, rosemary sorbet. Great foodie
What an outstanding restaurant! I travel all over the U.S. and to many other countries and restaurant Gwendolyn is simply one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. From the attentive and personalized service to the outstanding tasting menu to the outstanding wine selection (they had my favorite white wine - Spanish Albarino) to the cozy and quiet atmosphere, Restaurant Gwendolyn is a gem. Please order the charcuterie as an appetizer - it is absolutely amazing and I can honestly say I have never had anything like it at any other fine dining establishment. If you only have time for one upscale restaurant in San Antonio, make it Restaurant Gwendolyn. You will not be sorry.
Superb!! Must try
Restaurant Gwendolyn is my favorite restaurant in San Antonio. I have only ordered the tasting menu, which can be hit and miss in terms of personal taste, but never disappoints in presentation, preparation, and taste tantalization. There will be a few you won't like, a few that are good and interesting, and a few that are flat out amazing.
It is not cheap, but it is well worth it. It is definitely an experience. It is a great place for a special occasion. I can't see myself eating the tasting menu more than twice a year, but that's just me. I've visited Gwendolyn 3 different times and enjoyed it every time.
The 5 course will take about 2 hours and the 7 course will take about 3 hours. I suggest the 7 course which is the only one I've had. It ends up being 8-10 courses because the chef has some experiments shared as extra courses. You can add on wine that goes with the courses. I added it for myself and my wife shared my wine. It is a lot of wine for a 7 course meal.
I'm writing this review on my computer. I'll see if I can edit it and upload some photos from my phone.
Visited San Antonio and really enjoyed starting our trip here. Had a great late meal and great service.
Great food. Great service. Pricy meal but great for a special occasion. Wine pairings were in some cases unusual but spot on. Great overall experience!!!!
The 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing was excellent! Attentive service, friendly, not pretentious.
