Restaurant e18hteen Ratings and Reviews
Great location and atmosphere, but the food was disappointing. We tried the tasting menu and the value just wasn't there. A single oyster, shaved ice between portions, and three blueberries cut in half on the dessert place. For the price, we were expecting much better quality.
I had a lovely evening here with my parents who were visiting me from England. The venue was beautifully furnished, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the wine list was fantastic. The food was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic, the only criticism I would give is that it was luke warm in temperature. Nevertheless the general ambience was lovely and I will definitely go back!
Just went back to eighteen after almost 15 years. The bar is absolutely amazing. We went on a quite night so the servers and even bar tender was extremely attentive. Taking the time to describe each meal as well as explain our cocktails and make wine suggestions with tastings to ensure we were satisfied with our choice. The portions were well balanced and i must say....the earl grey and orange creme brulee they have on the menu now is to die for!
A perfect setting and ambiance but unfortunately staff is not used to this type of high end restaurant and as such they are unable to make you feel treated as a special guest. It’s a true pity as it could have been an awesome experience and now we’re left with an unpleasant feeling and a very expensive checkout
Our dinner at 18 was one of the highlights of our trip to Ottawa. The space is elegant but not fussy, with a nice sized bar and *very* professional bartenders. My wife and I are both whiskey drinkers typically, but we both tried one of their specialty cocktails and they were delicious. The service was attentive, even when they filled up later in the evening. The highlight was the food, however. We had fois gras and grilled lobster as appetizers, both outstanding (BIG slice of fois gras), and the tenderloin and duck breast entrees. Everything was fantastic!
We have dined here on a few occasions now. The decor is beautiful with the stone walls, and online reservation system is so convenient. Service has been good each time. In all honesty though, the food is never actually as great as I anticipate. It is always good, and the menu has things you don't get just anywhere, but for the cost and location, I expected better.
Also, an easy fix of something that brings your restaurant from a 5* experience to a 3* is the toilet paper!! Why do you cheap out on the toilet paper???! Please, if nothing else improve the quality of your TP for your customers who are paying a lot to dine with you!
We came to Ottawa for our second wedding anniversary and made a reservation without recommendation or reading much about the e18hteen. Great service, amazing food, very romantic and just a great overall experience. Restaurant is beautiful and the food was excellent. I have a background in culinary, vichyssoise was perfect. Can't say enough about this place.
They made our anniversary super special and had a surprise at the end of the meal for us as well!
Very very minor gripe, our corner table seemed to be the only table with light shining directly on over it...nonetheless amazing!
Restaurant wasn't busy at all for a Friday night. We were the last table by 10pm . Food quality was average considering the price. Third time here and still feel the same about it. I ordered the duck and half of it was tough to chew. Great wine drink selection , quiet ambiance if you're looking for a low key night.
The service was very good but was out shined by the quality, presentation and taste of the food.
A very relaxing and enjoyable meal. I recommend trying this Restaurant if you haven't been before. While a little on the pricey side it was good value for what was offered.
Will be back!!
We dined on a night that there happened to be two giant parties there, so I'm wondering if that was why for a large portion of the evening we were ignored. Waiting 40 minutes to get the smallest and most expensive dessert I've ever had the misfortune of ordering is ridiculous and amazingly pretentious. The black cod was the best part of the entire experience. Adding to the frustration was the children running around and being seated by the restroom. The restaurant was not full except for a scattering of a few other couples and the two large parties. A lot of expense for not a lot of food (albeit very good and high quality) and inattentive service.
Our first time at 18 and it was "Ok". Most dishes had potential but lacked seasoning. Steak was over cooked so consider asking one less doneness. Fish (Cod) was very well cooked, probably sous-vide and pan finished but lacked salt. Even the pork dashi, which should have been over seasoned, was very bland. Frisée salade with fried sweetbread was my favourite dish.
