Restaurant Cotton Ratings and Reviews
The ambiance is one of the best, if not the best in town. It reminds me of the caliber of restraint that you'd see in larger cities like Atlanta, Chicago, New York, San Fransisco, New Orleans, etc. Cotton also has ample room up stairs for larger parties and privacy. The food is always good, yet they tend to run out of some of the favorite times. Service during my last couple of visits is spotty.
Bottom line: This could be the best restaurant in town if the issues mentioned above are addressed.
This was our third time dining at Restaurant Cotton - for my daughter's graduation from ULM. Definitely not the best experience. The first two visits were absolutely incredible; from the cocktails (the blueberry fence hopper), the wait staff and the food was excellent!. This night, we were a party of 11. The waiter was very polite, yet could not get our order correct. The food was wrong as was the drink order. We ordered a kids chicken dinner, and he brought out a hamburger (said they were out of chicken). Should have notified us prior to bringing out the burger, as the child was under 2 and the burger was not a good option, so was not eaten. The drink order was completely wrong, brought out three wrong drinks - we politely accepted them and made the best of it. One venison schnitzel had one small piece of venison, while the other three orders had two nice pieces. There was only one option for desert - out of everything.
I guess I was so disappointed because our previous two visits ware perfect. Will certainly return, hopefully this was just an off night!
PS. Chef Bahr was no where to be found that night.
Very disappointed with service. Made 9:30 reservation for after graduation. They called to confirm at 5:30. Told me if we were running late let them know because they close at 10. Some of our party got there at 9. They started asking where the rest of the party was because they closed at 9:30. We all got there before 9:30. There was no one else there and they rushed us the entire time. Could have gotten better treatment at burger joint. Very disappointing service. Food was solid. Nothing special. Thursday night and no one there after 9 with neighboring places packed. Might want to try and figure out why that is.
No greeting at door. Waited till someone came from office to the right, to seat us. People at bar seam to be having good time. 1 other Tabel had guest. After being seated Did hot get biscuits and butter. Till after 3or4othee guest were seated and got thers. Grouper a little over cooked but good. My wife's vinison. Was way over and tuff and dry. BUMMER. It was her birthday. I am a local barber of 35years and had high expectations.-- LETDOWN. But on a good note. Your biscuits were great. And the duck frys were also.
The food was delicious as always. We had a variety of appetizers and entrees. Favorites were the oysters - both grilled and raw - and the fish entrees. I had the fried drum with crawfish etouffee, which was outstanding. The dessert chef has returned! Scrumptious peanut butter pie!
The food was good, particularly the black-eyed pea soup with collards. I thought the fish special was a little bland - it could have used more seasoning to jazz it up. I loved, loved, loved the french 75 cocktail - it was one of the best cocktails I've ever had - I would return just for that. We were a little disappointed in the service. Our waiter seemed to be pretty inexperienced, although he did try hard.
The seating for our group of was outstanding. The booths were comfortable and supported cross-table conversations well! The food looked and tasted amazing. Certainly a culinary delight! Love the nighttime atmosphere and music. Exceptional service that was not intrusive. Simply awesome.
Restaurant Cotton exceeded our expectations. The food was extraordinary. We both had the blackened redfish. Amazing!!! Our server, Lance, went above and beyond to make our dinner everything we could have imagined!!! He was knowledgeable of the menu and the drink menu!! Definitely will be back!!!!
Food is good but not worth the extra money. I had the rib eye on a bed of cheese grits. $38!!! Keep in mind that doesn't come with anything else. My wife had the fish. She liked it but said she would def try something else if we go back. They could at least toss in a salad or something for $38. after 15% tip my total was $97 for the night and we both drank water... Building looks cool and is in the heart of old Monroe.
Overall, we had a good time at Cotton's. It was my first time there. The service and atmosphere was really nice. Only issue was the food was not really that impressive. The duck wraps were great for an appetizer. I do recommend them. The entrées were just ok. The bread pudding we got for dessert was not edible and it was a disappointment being the total was over $100. To spend that much, I would go somewhere else next time.
My wife and I and friends have dined several times at Cotton in the past. Then the service was exemplary and the food excellent. However standards last weekend seemed to have slipped, waiter service was slow, drink delivery was pedestrian and while my wife and mines food was good, a fellow guest diner returned a steak because it was not cooked to his desire. To top this off a restaurant manager came to the table and gestapo style questioned him as to what "his definition of medium rare was" and what the restaurants definition was. When your paying $36.00 I would think the customers definition would always take precedence. When his steak finally arrived back it was again not what the diner had requested, but resigned to the fact that it was probably not going to be cooked right, had it boxed and took it home. The fact that the restaurant manager who was obviously offended that a patron would return food to the kitchen and then take a confrontational stance instead of trying to please the client is the main reason we will not eat there again or recommend it to anyone.
The food was excellent and the portion sizes were perfect. Appetizers and small plates were enough for sharing. The menu wasn't repetitive, offering a nice variety. I wish, however, that there would have been at least one vegetarian option that was not a salad. The drink menu was creative and tasty.
My only complaint was the service. After we were seated our waitress brought us water and said she would be back with menus. It was a full 15 minutes before she reappeared, without menus. She seemed distracted. Once we received our menus and ordered drinks, it took a long time before the drinks were brought out and our orders taken. The entrees were brought out staggered, which allowed some of the dishes to become cool before we began eating.
The food and atmosphere at Cotton have been enjoyable every time I have gone. The last couple of visits the service has been less than superior simply because of the waiter/waitress. They don't know the specials or how to explain the menu and they have been almost gloomy in attitude. The food and atmosphere are so good I will continue to go but I sincerely hope the dynamic of the wait staff returns to what it once was.
When we arrived for lunch on a weekend, there were only a few people. However, the music level was quite loud. I asked the waiter... nicely... to reduce the volume "by 10%"... but was ignored. The food was OK in quality but not in quantity. French fries for $12?
It was the most expensive lunch I've had with my family in the region. Problem? I had trouble hearing what my family was saying because the acoustics were too loud.
Cotton was recommended by a foodie friend in NOLA. It did not disappoint. And bar service from Zach et at was extremely friendly. The menu recs from Zach were spot on. I couldn't finish the pork so I packed it up and took it cross country for lunch the next day. I'd skip the deviled eggs unless you are a huge fan them generally. The crab and corn hush puppies were a good replacement as an app. But by the time my pork and sweet potatoes arrived, I was already stuffed! Moral? Dine with a friend:)
The food was excellent. However, we were the first to arrive for brunch & had to wait 15 minutes for menues. There were three other tables full, yet we had to wait for drinks & refills. The server rarely came back to check on us & it was disheartening because we brought friends from out of town & drove several hours to enjoy the experience. Thank goodness the food was good because the service was not what we expected.
