Certainly worth the drive. Enjoying our wine to start my husband asked, "I wonder how many people drive to the Getty Center and tram it up just to go to the restaurant?" I responded " we did!" It was our first destination after a 374 mile drive from San Francisco. Everything is truly great about the restaurant and cannot wait to return.
SERVICE LEVELS WERE VERY POOR AND FOOD SELECTION VERY LIMITED
In past years we've had wonderful meals there. This time, the food was salty and frankly not good anyway--any of the dishes--and the service was uninformed and dismissive. Something has deteriorated there.
Excellent food and service. We both had the Cobb salad, which was great. Just the right amount of chicken, apple, etc. The bread was also delicious.
The only one figuring for reservations. Somehow I did not notice it was that expensive.
Gorgeous restaurant and site. Formal, but still very relaxed. After all, many were tourists stopping in for a bite. Artisanal American cheeses and housemade charcuterie exceptional. Very good chittarra pasta with pancetta (perhaps a bit too generous in pancetta, and pasta was not quite as al dente as I prefer) and perfectly runny egg yolk on top to create sauce. Herbed omelette was perfectly silky soft the way we prefer (without asking for specific way we wanted it cooked), sign of a good restaurant for us. I’d make it a regular brunch spot if I lived there!
A beautiful setting with excellent service.
Overall, a five star dining experience.
Delicious food, excellent service! Definitely, we're going back on a clear night to enjoy the view!
We were with friends touring the Getty Center. I had read about the restaurant online. I’m so glad we made reservations. By the way, reservations are a must. Two of us had a Cobb Salad. It was excellent. The others had the Scallop Salad. I understand it is a seasonal menu. It was not an inexpensive lunch but a very enjoyable one. The restaurant is quiet and is a nice break before going back out to tour the center.
Great place to eat after a morning visiting the museum. Wonderful views, great food and a very relaxing place to chill.
Beautiful views, excellent service, and tasty food.
Elegant meal for a museum cafe.
Lunch before museum hack was awesome. Food, service, ambiance & view were great!
Beautiful restaurant and beautifully presented food.
We went to the Getty to see “Selected Shorts,” a wonderful evening of actors reading short stories. We ate at the restaurant which is much more elegant than I remembered. It’s a white-tablecloth place with excellent food. My friend had the fennel-citrus salad and paella (two appetizers) and loved them both. I had a glass of Pinot Gris and the scallop entree, which was beautifully prepared. The scallops were seared on one side and perfectly cooked. It was served with risotto, asparagus and frisée. I asked for another green as I don’t like frisée, and the waiter happily substituted arugula. It was delicious. It was my friend’s birthday, so we ordered the bread pudding with lemon curd, meringue and blueberry ice cream. Also delicious. I would definitely return. But leave plenty of time. The service was leisurely. We had nearly 2 hours but had to rush to the theater.
Overall good experience, however, service was a bit slow and we had a couple long waits (to get the desert menu, to get the coffee and desert). A bit too pricey to go up the hill just for dinner, but good when paired with other Getty events.
We have been going to The Getty Restaurant to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries for a few years now, and it never fails to satisfy both for excellent food and for excellent environment. The service (especially in Louie's section) is always wonderful and friendly. We would never hesitate to recommend spending time there enjoying a great meal!
This is a truly excellent restaurant, it would be worth coming to even if you were not visiting the museum. I would make it a point to return when in the area.
Never sorry about adding this to a day at the museum
We visit the LA area a few times a year and one of our go -to places is the Getty Center. We enjoy all the museums and the displays. The guides are knowledgeable and show so much interest in the topic they are assigned to talk about. We've taken the architecture tour 4 times and each one gives a different approach on the architecture . We love the gardens and have taken that tour as well. The last tour we took was the impressionistic tour. Really enjoyed that. We always make it a point to have a meal at the restaurant.
For our next anniversary, we planned to come here. I set reservations and ran a couple minutes late but when I showed up, they could care less if I had one or not. I was seated right away and waited a bit for the waiter to take our drinks. After that, everything was amazing. The food that was recommended, the cheese platter, my prime steak, her swordfish, the drinks, and deserts. It was all amazing. Friendly staff. Wish we could have used the area where the view is amazing, but it’s only available in the summer time. Will definitely come back.
Excellent in every way!
The experience missed target. We did the price fix menu with fairly high expectations, and the food while good, wasn’t the level expected for cost. Would try again, but order off menu next time.
I have a daughter who is vegan so it’s not always easy to find a restaurant that can cater to her requirements; however, this restaurant did. The vegan dish was absolutely mouth watering. I talked to the staff and they stated that the chef was going to expand the vegan menu. This restaurant caters to vegetarians, vegans and us meat eaters. I definitely give this restaurant an A++.
The view and the cocktails make for a stunning dining experience.
I love coming to this restaurant. Love the view and the ambiance. I feel it is a bit pricey for what is served and that the staff is a bit snotty, but I love coming anyway.
100% the best experience of my life. The food was amazing, 10/10. The deserts we're probably the best I've ever had. Whoever made the desserts has fans for life.
nice lunch . nice view with tasty food options. good cocktails.
The menu is a bit limited, especially for a museum lunch, but what was served was excellent, as was the service and ambiance. Check the online menu to be sure that this is what you are expecting. Alternatively, there is a simpler cafe, which we did not visit.
Blustery day, clear skies, wonderful view. Mushroom pot pie warm and savory. Paella? Tasty shrimp and rice but not paella. Smoked strawberry sorbet...mmmm. Delightful service, hushed tones. A bit pricey for every visit to the Getty but a wonderful afternoon.
The room is singularly attractive, conveying a feeling that makes it special and joyful to be there. In fact, I found the room superior to the food. In fact, I sent back the meat main course because it was tough, luke warm and overcooked. The vegetables were better, but still on the cold side. The ice cream dessert was the best effort and was fun. Also, I found the seating wanting in that my chair was at the window but facing in to the room rather than out at the beautiful vista beyond the glass. Overall, I would suggest that more attention should be given to the food itself.
Superb food, terrific service in an elegant setting at the beautiful Getty Center.
Overall loved the place. Great ambiance. Food was good. Wish there were a few more selections available, as the menu was a bit limited for someone with shellfish allergy or who did not eat pork.
Outstanding food. Very nice service and beautiful interior. Very pleasant location to have a quiet and enjoyable dinner.
I enjoyed my dinner at the Getty. I went there before a performance the the museum and the service was great. The food was great. It was special to see the lights on the hills round about. My only quibble would be the closseness of the the tables.
My niece came to visit. Wanted to take her someplace special for lunch. Chose Getty Center. Never disappointed with the view.
Food was just okay.
Amazing food. This is not your average "museum restaurant." It is chef prepared, highest quality food, in a beautiful setting overlooking the ocean. The food was so good and presented so beautifuly, I rate my recent lunch there in one of the top ten restaurant meals I've ever had. Each bite was a little taste of heaven the entire meal. A job really well done.
I enjoyed my lunch very much however we had a reservation and still had to wait 15 minutes before being seated. Otherwise, all went very well. We liked our waiter.
There are pros & cons to eating at the Getty restaurant: you're at the Getty Center👍The view can be spectacular, if your table is well placed & it's daytime👍the food is delicious when you finally get it, the service was quite slow when we were there😕the bar has a great selection of wines & decently made cocktails 👍overall I found it much too pricey for what you get to make it a regular 'go to' restaurant 😔
The Getty Restaurant never disappoints; always enhances a memorable day in the galleries and gardens.
