Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch
It seems the standards have gone down at this restaurant.
The clam chowder was goopy and the mini bread bowl was over charred and burnt.
The pasta dish was bland and I had to request some grated parmesan cheese to give it some flavor. The pasta was cooked nicely though. I think Buca di Beppo would have made a more tasty pasta dish.
The blueberry crisp was not warm enough and did not impress when it comes to flavor. The lemon sorbet on top was nice but a strange combination with the almonds and blueberries in a semi-sweet sauce underneath.
Overall not a good experience especially for a date night. I have lost faith in this restaurant and will no longer recommend it to friends and family.
We enjoyed our meal and the restaurant and will definitely return. The salmon sandwich was excellent.
Unexpected dining experience.
I almost cancelled the reservation when I saw the menu. There were only set menu available.
I was very hungry that day and wanted to try as many possible choices. There were only 4 main dishes. Fish, Chicken meatball, short rib and vegetarian. So I ordered both chicken meatball and short rib, my husband ordered the salmon. All of them were better than expected.
Our student server was a little nervous but she really tried hard though she did not know much about wine but she was still learning. :-)
However, she did well on all settings including changing the wine glasses from white wine to red wine.
Overall, we had a great time with our friends. We even bought 12 bottles of 2016 Zinfandel.
We will definitely come back.
All the students I had contact with were a perfect combination of friendly, helpful, and professional. Each of them MADE EYE CONTACT when listening and speaking. They were all sincere and genuine. Food was delicious and the presentation was attractive. I'll be back!
Securing reservations was a bit frustrating. I checked for same night reservations on Open Table and was told no tables were available the entire night. Checked for following night and received same response (in midweek?). I finally got a reservation through their direct website. We were greeted nicely at desk and were escorted to our window table on time. Our server, Breanna, was very cordial but was new and not to well briefed regarding the menu. But she was friendly and did her best. No ordering from a regular menu. It was a 3 course prix fix at $35/pp. Our final bill was $90. They don't accept tips, but rather a donation was recommended. The servings of each course was what one would expect during Restaurant Week, smaller portions, but higher prices. In my opinion, if you are dining in this kind of environment where chefs work with culinary students, you shouldn't have to pay quite so much for experimental dining, certainly not a match for your more upscale restaurants, especially if the food was slightly below outstanding.
We so enjoyed our meal, which was expertly prepared and attentively served by the Collins College Hospitality students.
The Cubano sandwich and fall salad was delicious. The staff was knowledgeable and service was wonderful.
This is a student run restaurant. I have eaten here every time I come to town. It is my first choice. The food is excellent; the students are eager and professional and they have exciting plans for their careered as a result of being part of this program. Excellent!!!!!
Server was a little awkward and overly nice (if that’s a thing)
nice view, excellent service, good food
The food was delicious and of good value. Since this was servers' opening day, they appeared
to be nervous. However they all did a very good job.
This was our second visit. All the personnel were attentive and courteous. The food was at the optimum temperature, flavorful and presented well. I ordered the Steak Frites. At the risk of being labeled a barbarian, I would suggest a small container of catsup or a house sauce be included for the superlative french fries.
Lastly, our only complaint is : on both of our visits, the room temperature was far cooler than we would have preferred. Otherwise our experience most enjoyable.
I love this place. The food is amazing!! The fact that it’s ran by students makes it fun and interesting. Will definitely go again.
Our server Samantha was a delight. Food was excellent.
Student run restaurant from servers to chef's, so it's only open during the semester. Food was slow to come out, but delicious. The view is lovely and there is a nice selection of wines. The menu changes each semester. It's really a fun experience.
It was our first time and most certainly will not be our last. We celebrated our 31st anniversary the night we went. We were lucky that attendance was low that night and were able to really enjoy the view and take our time with dinner. The staff was wonderful! I have already been talking Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch up to anyone who will listen.
Thank you for a very enoyable evening and experience,
The atmosphere and service was really nice. The grilled cheese sandwich was a bit bland and the wine reduction combined with the tomato gave it an odd texture. Soup was good.
Great food. Great training experience for students. Good environment for conducting business.
As always a great dining experience. The students do a great job in providing service excellence.
I can't wait to come back in September!! The servers were wonderful. Chefs did fabulous. One thing I did notice is that my salmon dish could have been warmer. And the servers would come by and check on us but not always clear empty plates.
I highly recommend RKR! This is a hands on laboratory operation where students learn by doing food, beverage and guest satisfaction. All key components to hospitality! Food and service is impeccable!
There is a very large exquisite wine & beer list! The views are outstanding!
Book a small or large banquet as there are rooms to accommodate!
Eat, drink & have fun while supporting the future leaders of the hospitality industry!
Great food and excellent service!!
Most enjoyable! Service was great. Kudos to the instructors and students who run the restaurant, as they all work hard to provide a great dining experience.
The food was good. High quality ingredients. A little pricey for a school lunch.
Overall experience was great. Students were attentive and food came in a timely manner. We specifically ordered the salmon gnocchi entree to be cooked medium well done but it came out slightly undercooked, and the gnocchi was tough.
This restaurant is a little gem, the food is absolutely fantastic, the service is great, the price is unbeatable, and you get to support a university and its students - couldn't ask for more.
It was really nice, servicer are very professional and well trained, kind of wish that they would give a dessert or something for our anniversary day instead of just a plate with chocolate sauce, but it was really thoughtful.
The ambiance and service was great! They had fixed 3 course meal but each course had a missing item that I guess they had run out of so that was disappointing. The chicken and salmon dishes that were available were just okay, needed more flavor. I love that these are students learning how to move forward in the restaurant business, however I think they need better recipes
I would recommend this restaurant for diner but not for lunch. They had ran out of some of the food for lunch and the brownies for dessert were overly baked and dry.
We try to visit RKR 2-3 times per year. The food is always excellent, the ambience is great, and it is a pleasure to support the students on their educational path.
Great views - lunch was an enjoyable experience
Waitress was patient and attentive to our needs as a group. Food was delicious. Wine and Beer pairings were appropriate. Well done!
We had a very nice evening at Kellog Ranch. Here are the highlights:
Good wine/slow to be served
Excellent salad and dessert/ main entry over cooked
Server kept apologizing because it was his first time. He interrupted several times to check on us. I was surprised there wasn’t a mentor with him to help guide and train. But he tried his best. And we liked him.
I’ve been a restaurant owner for 25 years and I would expect a school to be a little more organized and involved with the students. Also, I had a difficult time making a reservation and yet the restaurant was 1/2 full.
The view was beautiful! I enjoyed watching the kitchen work from the lounge area. The food was exquisite and healthy. The host and servers were friendly and polite. I will definitely make this one of my favorite places.
The restaurant is run by the students of CalPoly Pomona. These are students enrolled in the hospitality degree programs. They were all excellent and the food was great. No tipping but donations are possible. Great experience all around.
Perfect date night spot! I am always pleased when I come to RKR! Honestly, a restaurant perfect for any occasion with the best service, food quality, and price!
Love the atmosphere and view. Food was great. Enjoyed dining there.
Good experience overall
