About Restaurant Alma
Opened in 1999, Restaurant Alma is a casual fine dining restaurant, offering eclectic American cuisine and warm hospitality in a rustic historically preserved building. A high, open beam ceiling, exposed brick columns and concrete floors display the original space, while an open kitchen, banquette seating and gentle lighting contribute to an intimate and contemporary feel.
Alma is best known for sourcing the best quality seasonal ingredients available and features a high percentage of local and organic products. Our menu changes every six to eight weeks, offering both new and signature dishes. We feature both a three course tasting menu format, allowing the customer to select any three dishes from the menu for $59 and a la carte options.

Restaurant Alma Ratings and Reviews
We thought the service was quite slow. I had called ahead to have a bottle of wine on table and they sat us at the wrong table with no bottle. I had given them my card number for the wine and they didn’t even tell me they were gonna run it before dinner. I received no receipt. I assumed everything would have been rung up together at the end. Overall, it wasn’t the experience i was hoping for. Our server seemed sweet, but not very attentive. I wish it had all gone a bit more smooth. It was for a special occasion and I wasn’t so happy about our experience.
Perfect Dining Experience - Beautifully conceived, prepared and presented food, with skilled, warm service in an elegant setting. Special kudos for the celery root soup, parmesan flan with accompaniments and most of all the shrimp crostone , this latter a complete work of culinary art.
This was my second visit to Restaurant Alma, and I was impressed once again. I am a university student so dining experiences like this aren't a frequent occasion. I don't have a a ton of restaurants of similar caliber to compare Alma to. That said, it is easily the most impressive food I've ever had the privilege of being served. From the amuse bouche, to the three courses, to the desert- everything was perfect. The duck breast with jalapeno chard was incredible. I am also impressed by the fact that Alma provides such an experience without being in any way "stuffy" or pretentious. Even as someone who doesn't normally indulge in meals at this price point, it all felt very approachable and welcoming.
There are only a handful of restaurants I would travel to their city just to have dinner. Alma is one. I’ve been dining there for a number of years and it just keeps getting better. The flavors are delightful. It’s what you hope for in a restaurant, and then it gets better.
Cafe Alma is predictably exceptional, from A to Z. The chefs, the cooks, the wait staff, the hostesses have all found a way to make this restaurant one of the landmark restaurants of the Twin Cities. The only complaint, an old one but still problematic, is that parking around the restaurant is limited; be prepared to walk a few blocks. Otherwise, Cafe Alma is simply the best.
My sweetheart and I were celebrating a few different occasions and drove 5+ hours to the cities that morning for an evening out. We arrived 20 min or so early for our reservation and decided to have a drink at the bar. We completely lost track of time and realized we were past our reservation time so we went back to the host stand and were seated immediately. We had a show to get to and apologized to our server for being late for our reservation and informed her of our time crunch. They accommodated with perfection. The food was transcendent, the wine pairing magnificent. I didn’t know food could do that. It was the best meal of my life and I feel ridiculous that I even considered having anything planned for afterward.
The meal was the event.
The hospitality and knowledge of our server was on point and the entire staff was so accommodating. We can’t wait to come back and will be recommending this wonderful restaurant to all.
Everything about this visit was amazing. Our server was entertaining and exceptionally knowledgeable about the menu and food in general. His suggestions were on point and added to the experience. You could tell that he loves his career and is really good at it. The food was amazing and the ambiance was stellar. I strongly recommend this restaurant! Thank you!
Everything is perfect at Alma. Dain was our server and he is absolutely everything you’d want in a server: knowledgeable, funny, and interested in your needs as a diner. He made our experience even better than I knew it would be! James’s wine pairings were perfection. Top notch, all around.
My husband and I visited Alma for a date night and will admit the food was very good! The menu is very limited and a little different but we enjoyed our food! Our only complaint is about the price. Although a trendy/cool atmosphere, we just don’t know if we will go back. We weren’t WOW-ed by the food for the price we paid. Furthermore, we opted to do the 3 course meal for $59 but we were charged an additional $6 at the end for gnocchi because it had lobster in it- our waiter never mentioned this or told us about this prior to ordering. We found that a little frustrating. It was an alright experience, but we won’t be back.
We had an amazing meal for our anniversary! Even better recommendations from our waiter Dain. He was the best!
I haven't been to Restaurant Alma for many years and coming back was a treat! Wish it were easier to get into and could handle a 6 top easier, however, it won't stop me from coming back again and again!
Given the never-ending options in the cities and the fact that we don't eat out more than a few times per month, this is one of the few restaurants that we return to again and again when we want to relax, be pampered, and enjoy amazing food. I value the commitment to local and sustainable agriculture.
Alma has amazing service, cocktails, and food every time we visit. The rotating menu offers something seasonal and interesting every time. Alma is consistently the best dining experience in the Twin Cities and is amongst the best restaurants in the country.
