Restaurant Alba - Malvern, PA Ratings and Reviews
Everyone enjoyed their meal, except me. My first course of gnocchi’s was so hot (spicy), I had to send it back. Then offered another fish with plain sauce. Then my rack of lamb was marbled with fat. I tried to eat around it. Never had a rack like that. Won’t order it at Alba again.
As much as I wanted to like Restaraunt Alba it was truly not up to par for the price point. The food that I ordered did not reflect the ingredients in the description and everything on the table was quite bland for my palate.
I have been to Alba many times, but this was my first time as a vegan. They could not have made me feel more welcome, been more attentive, or had more interesting and delicious food prepared for me. The rest of our party does not have special dietary requirements, and they loved everything. The service was exceptionally good.
My meal was like eating leftovers. I ordered the suckling pig. It tasted like it was cooked 3-4 days before. The server asked if I wanted something else but I had already eaten 60% and was getting full. The entrée was deducted from the bill...Thank you.
Over the past several years I've been there 3 times and each time dissatisfied. Therefore not a frequent customer. Hope springs eternal...
We deliberately chose a mid-week date because we wanted to experience the chef’s tasting menu. We were quite disappointed when we were informed that we needed to give advance notice of that. When we told our waiter that neither the website nor the caller who confirmed the reservation made mention of that, he gave a haughty, half-hearted apology but then summoned the manager when we suggested that we might leave. The manager also said we needed to give advance notice so the kitchen could live up to its high standard; again, I suggested that such information belonged on the website. She said we were right and that she would make that change (which hasn’t happened after several days) and she said if we stayed, she would make accommodations on our bill. That turned out to be another exercise in poor communication when an extra pasta dish arrived at the table with no explanation. We explained that we hadn’t ordered it and the courier took it back. Minutes later our server returned it, saying it was compliments of the house. So rather than comp us a round of drinks or an appetizer, Alba gave us a heavy pasta dish that made it difficult to finish our entrees. In the end, it turned out OK because the main courses were quite unexciting, in contrast to the superb appetizers. And the advance information that the restaurant DID solicit — the fact that we were celebrating my husband’s birthday— was never mentioned by anyone. With so many fabulous restaurants in the area, we certainly can’t recommend this one...
We have always enjoyed Alba. Sean and Kelly operate with impeccable detail but without pretension. Seans cuisine is truly without comparison on the main line. The handmade pasta is an obligation for me but even Olivia (gluten free) has a hard time choosing. Frank procures a wine list with the cuisine in mind and his pairing is spot on. Alba gives us the sense of a family operation but their success breeds freshness and confidence. We are looking forward to taking out daughter there. Thanks for the current and future memories...Noah and Olivia
Restaurant Alba is a top notch dining experience. They specialize in Norther Italian dishes and the food they serve is exquisite. Bright flavors and spices, fresh ingredients, often sourced from local farms. My wife and I have started to visit Restaurant Alba for our wedding anniversary. Each year, we get the chef's tasting menu along with an accompanying wine. The wines and dishes vary. Each dish was its own delight! By the end of dinner, we were both stuffed. Note that the wine pours are not full. You get wine with each course so each pour is about 70% of a full pour. The wines are mostly Italian, but they also have interesting Spanish and Argentinian wines. Our waiter, Michael, was top notch, too. Smart, efficient, not obtrusive, encouraging, informative, polite, friendly, reserved. Nearly a perfect waiter. We sat outside the an open window into the kitchen. It was another pleasure to glance occasionally through that window and watch three professional chefs quietly and deftly work non-stop, preparing plate after plate. The occasional flame from the stove added some flash. Even the hostesses are near perfect. Restaurant Alba is one of the best restaurants in our area. We went on a Wednesday night, and the restaurant was surprisingly full. People without reservations had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Another sign of a good restaurant.
We were pleasantly surprised that our dinners were served good. It’s been a while since we’ve been here and I think the food had improved substantially. I will definitely return. We had the pork and lamb entrees and both were awesome.
This is not a restaurant with traditional italian foods, although they they have pasta and meats and antipasto. This is for the person that wants something different and unique. Something that you would be challenged to make at home. The spice mix and flavors are very interesting and never common. The meat in the red sauce on our pasta was wild boar, the lamb was perfect, it was plated on a white bean puree. The wine was excellent. The waiter only surprised us once with his question about how we liked our meals always waiting for a break in our conversation. The meal was a good pace, not to fast not to slow. never needed to fill a glass or ask for anything. The service like the food was excellent and perfectly balance. I love this place.
The food and service were very good. The noise level was high. For a party of two, it was very difficult to hear each other over the parties of four seated in close proximity. I would not recommend this restaurant for a date night or for a couple celebrating a special occasion.
Alberto our server made the experience lovely. Love the reasonably priced wine list. The call to confirm our 5:30 reservation with the note that there was a seating after ours was off-putting and unnecessary. Three out of four entrees were great. Wild boar ragu over rigatoni had VERY LITTLE boar. Butter scotch budino was AMAZING!
