Restaurant Alba - Malvern, PA Ratings and Reviews
This is not a restaurant with traditional italian foods, although they they have pasta and meats and antipasto. This is for the person that wants something different and unique. Something that you would be challenged to make at home. The spice mix and flavors are very interesting and never common. The meat in the red sauce on our pasta was wild boar, the lamb was perfect, it was plated on a white bean puree. The wine was excellent. The waiter only surprised us once with his question about how we liked our meals always waiting for a break in our conversation. The meal was a good pace, not to fast not to slow. never needed to fill a glass or ask for anything. The service like the food was excellent and perfectly balance. I love this place.
The food and service were very good. The noise level was high. For a party of two, it was very difficult to hear each other over the parties of four seated in close proximity. I would not recommend this restaurant for a date night or for a couple celebrating a special occasion.
Alberto our server made the experience lovely. Love the reasonably priced wine list. The call to confirm our 5:30 reservation with the note that there was a seating after ours was off-putting and unnecessary. Three out of four entrees were great. Wild boar ragu over rigatoni had VERY LITTLE boar. Butter scotch budino was AMAZING!
We returned to Alba for the first time since a very disappointing visit New Year's Eve--mediocre food coupled with comically bad service-and were delighted to have the opposite experience --a wonderful meal, excellent pacing and attentive, helpful and unobtrusive service. I hope it lasts.
We have had dinner at Restaurant Alba on a number of occasions and have enjoyed the food, the ambience, the amuse bouche and, most of all, the friendliness of the owners. The food is consistently excellent and prepared with great carefulness. Individual requests are honored. Many of the dishes are standard on the menu and are cooked with authority and consistency. The specials are appropriate to the season of the year. We had a relaxing, satisfying experience and look forward to our next meal there.
My husband and I had a lovely dinner for his birthday. The food is fantastic even though the menu is limited . It would have been nice to have had a chicken entrée on the menu. Also the pumpkin ravioli dish looked like an appetizer, it was that small. The only criticism I would give is that I had mentioned on the reservation that it was my husband‘s birthday. I thought that meant that he would get a special dessert or something. When the waiter asked us if we wanted to order dessert it was a little awkward as I didn’t know if they were bringing my husband anything. When we declined to order dessert the waiter brought the bill and said happy birthday to my husband. I thought that was very odd that he knew it was his birthday but nothing was ever said ahead of time. I realized that if we had ordered dessert they probably would’ve brought one with a candle in it. That was disappointing. It’s an expensive restaurant for what you get.
It was a 60th birthday celebration and I'd asked for a table in a nice location. Instead we were at the bottom of a ramp, with very noisy guests at the next table. Conversation at our table was challenging because of all the echos and sound. I was disappointed.
Restaurant Alba was a real treat.
The food was outstanding. I had sardines and rabbit agnolotti; my friend, grilled octupus to die for, a pasta with mushrooms and duck breast. We aren't that familiar with Italian wines but our excellent waiter made spot-on recommendations. He was friendly and professional and didn't hover with inane remarks. If you ever are in the area, restaurant Alba, is well worth a visit. My mouth is watering remembering our good dinner.
We went to Alba with a large group (7) and were running late. We gave the restaurant heads up, and Alba’s staff was great at accommodating our schedule. The food was as excellent as the service. Alba is a gem, with quality and an overall experience far above what you normally find farther out from Center City and the usual foodie neighborhoods.
I love this restaurant. No establishment is perfect. I hope any criticism is constructive, not destructive. The seasonal tasting lunch was phenomenal...with one exception. A potato and leek tart with a small side salad of arugula was perfect. The pork with charred peaches was delicious. The dessert option my friend chose was an apple crostini pastry. The pastry had been prepped on a surface that was redolent of onion. We like onion with apple but not with vanilla ice-cream.
My lunch was the fish and chips and arugula salad with pickled grapes. The salad was PERFECT! Those grapes are awesome. I try the fish and chips at almost every restaurant that offers this item. The fish should never be on top of the fries if the plate is not delivered immediately. The bottom of the fish, which was cooked perfectly prior to sitting in the service window, was soggy. I assume this because the top and ends were crispy. The menu description said malt vinegar would be an accompaniment. I had to request that.
The staff seemed stretched thin. Having worked in food service, I know that is never ideal for a good dining experience. For me, honesty goes a long way. Staff should explain what and why. Customers can understand unusual situations.
I first noticed this restaurant in a group of restaurant reviews and kept it in mind for a special occasion - which came last week, our Tenth Wedding Anniversary. I called that Saturday morning and made a last-minute reservation for two. The 7:00 pm sitting was full, but there were openings at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. We prefer to dine early, so I opted for 5:00 pm. Since it was our first visit, we were not sure how long it would take to drive the 15 miles from our home, so we left early and arrived early. The restaurant was easy to find and there is ample parking. We were early, but the wait staff was ready and welcoming. Justin, our waiter, helped us feel comfortable and cared for. He answered questions knowledgeably and explained the specials. My lamb dish was delicious, and my husband loved his spicy shrimp pasta. We were able to converse quietly as the restaurant filled with other diners. Even when all the tables were filled, the noise level still allowed us to hear each other. That is a big plus, because we love to talk and eat leisurely. We shared a fresh peach crisp (sweet, but not too sweet) for desert and finished with cappuchinos. We will not wait for another special occasion to book again.
Not my first rodeo here.
When visiting the Malvern area, this is my favorite restaurant. The bar scene is fun and had a good crowd for a Friday night. The meal was quite good. First course was a salad with crab meat. I thought it was light on the crab meat for $17 app. The entre was lamb which was excellent. The lamb was Cooke medium rare as requested and seasoned as described. The ambiance is romantic and tables are positioned so that your conversation can stay private.
Plenty of parking in the rear. 4/5 stars
We had a nice dinner with friends: excellent pasta dishes, a yummy variety of Bruschetta, amazing deserts, and a decent selection of wines. The servers were very attentive and efficient. We were there on a weekend evening and the noise level was a bit high.
