Went with high expectations...I must say the phone book size wine list was impressive!
I was disappointed to see the raw oysters arrive predressed with mignonette?
Never saw that before.

Had a 9:00pm reservation, were finally sat at 9:40am. The table was next to an old door that was extremely drafty and it was 45 degrees outside. Food took a long time in between courses and the food was mediocre at best. The steak was over cooked and the potatoes seemed like they had been cooked several hours before. They were dry and hard. The desert was pretty blah and topped with canned whipped cream. Was not worth the $200+ bill.

Server was excellent. Husband and I both had the pork entree. My pork was fantastic, husband’s was undercooked. I enjoy polenta, but did not enjoy this polenta. It was soggy and the texture was a bit more course than I prefer. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was excellent. I did not care for the strawberry cream brûlée. Too little of the cream and way to much of crispy topping. It was served in a larger shallow dish and the cream wasn’t even 1/4” thick. The ratio of cream to topping was more topping than cream. I also like the more traditional vanilla flavor.

The restaurant was nice. The food was a cut above average and the portions were small. Beware of the prices in the bar. They had a happy hour with martinis at $5 but the gin was not acceptable. Ordered a Hendrix Gin martini and when the bill came was charged $18 which is outrageous.

Terrible service. Lack of communication, and lack of professionalism which you would not expect from fine dining. It was a special occasion, and unfortunately, was just not a good dining experience. They were out of several things on the menu, and didn't tell us til much after we ordered. The food was "okay" not delicious. For example, the $11 dinner salad was small and not tasty at all, and our appetizers and entrees, were good not great. The desserts were really good, and the restaurant is attractive. Very sad to say the general manager gave my family only a $50 gift certificate to compensate for the negative experience, when honestly, we don't feel like going back. In my opinion, they should have comp'd half the meal. In addition, they overcharged us terribly on several items. We let them know, and they took several items off, but still charged us for an extra caesar salad! We were so frustrated at that point, we just paid and left without fixing that.

I would recommend this restaurant to a friend - but probably not for a holiday. We went on Christmas evening and the restaurant staff seemed to be unprepared. The pacing was really off - it took us 30 minutes to get a glass of wine and another 15 minutes to get our starters. Our server was obviously under a lot of pressure having to apparently take care of too many tables. There didn't seem to be anybody assigned to greet diners. We felt ignored, as did other folks, when we tried to check in for our reservation. The food was good - the brussel sprout starter was even great. My soup was lukewarm, and the bread served was very minimal with a very small serving of butter. Definitely not a high point for us as a dining experience - ie for a restaurant with this setting and price - not up to it...

Went there for family Christmas Eve. Good bar atmosphere and pretty Christmas tree while we were waiting. That's why any stars. Oysters were ok but took 45 minutes to appear. Entrees were terrible and ridiculously overpriced. My husband paid $35 for three scallops and my daughter's duck was too tough to chew so she had to send it back. We were at that table for 2 hours. It wasn't even crowded just bad cooks and worse service.

It’s unacceptable that the menu was so limited for a restaurant of this type. It didn’t have any chicken or fish dish. And for breakfast they didn’t have omelettes and they have ran out of cheese so they couldn’t prepare to order.

Our first time using opentable and our first time visiting Restaurant 301. I was looking for somewhere special for my wife's birthday and this place did not disappoint. I was unsure after reading a few of the reviews but I'm happy I didn't let them change my mind. Our experience was wonderful, it's unfortunate not everyone enjoyed this special spot as much as we did. Our server was really helpful and knowledgeable and the bartender was charming; and I must note they have some really exciting creative cocktails on the drink menu although we stuck to wine for the night. The dinner menu had some interesting options that we ended up loving including brussel sprouts and a marrow mushroom appetizer. My wife had the pork chop cooked a perfect medium and my steak was worth every penny- when they say 16oz, it really is a generous 16 oz. The wine list is extensive and I can see how it would intimidate some people but our server easily helped us pick a bottle in our price range. And they do have some outlandishly expensive bottles, but on the other side we thoroughly enjoyed our $5 happy hour glass of wine before dinner. Really made a great night for my wife's birthday, looking forward to returning.

This place is very pretentious and overpriced. $9,000+ bottles of wine. No thanks. Not my thing. If it’s your’s, go for it. We ordered a $40 bottle of wine. After 15 minutes they said they were out of the one we ordered, but they had a $70/bottle comparable. Can you say bait and switch? We won’t be back.

Pleasant restaurant in an old restored Victorian hotel. Service was excellent. The menu, I thought was a bit limited, but maybe it was the Sunday night menu. Irregardless, the pork chop was excellent, and the Cesar salad interesting a very tasteful. Extensive wine list.

This is a lovely restaurant in a nice small hotel. The food however was quite disappointing. I ordered the rib eye steak special rare-medium-rare, the waitperson said, “I know exactly how you want it!” She didn’t, it arrived medium well and was grisssly and a bit tough. The salad was astoundingly small. We asked for bread and were told that had run out. They have an amazing wine list.

Hate to spoil the fair number of glowing reviews of this restaurant but in the interest of management hopefully addressing these issues I'm compelled to report them. The dining room is beautiful and features ambience befitting the "fine dining" category. We were seated right away, early on a Saturday night and gave our server an only mildly complicated drink order: gin on the rocks with a splash of tonic for my wife and a gin on the rocks with a lemon twist for me. I'm seldom impressed with servers who don't write down orders even if they get it right, which seldom happens. In this case the results were laughable. My wife was served gin and club soda and I got a tall gin and tonic. On the second try my wife got her gin with a splash of tonic but I was served gin with lemon juice, cloudy and so sour that it was impossible to drink. Third iteration I did get unaltered gin with lemon twist and a bonus wedge of lemon, one of lime and a festival of apologies. While I would never ask, in a high-end restaurant such is this I would expect that at least one or both of our cocktails our drinks be complimentary because of the server/bartender ineptitude. A Fleming's or Ruth's Chris or maybe even Denny's would undoubtedly to this; here it was not offered.
On a positive note the amuse bouche was interesting and a nice touch, setting the tone for the excellent Maui salad appetizer and the French onion soup, which was authentic and delicious. Alas, the rest of the meal was otherwise barely edible. Our lamb shanks were badly overcooked and the dessert, described as a puff pastry apple tort, was served with the pastry slab barely cooked and cold.
In my opinion Restaurant 301 does not merit a return visit,

The good: The filet was well prepared and at perfect temperature. Ambiance is always nice.

The disappointing: When I've celebrated my birthday here in years past, I received a candle in my dessert. This year I did not, despite noting the occasion in my OpenTable reservation details. It was not complimentary either, which has been in previous years. I would have also ordered a second glass of wine with my meal but the server did not offer one when my glass was empty. I had to request a water refill and silverware, which is not true to the level of service I've received here previously. Perhaps an off night for the staff but the next round of birthdays will be elsewhere.

Fit for foodies.

We aren't foodies by any stretch. More like drive ins, dives and diners. :-) But, we like a good meal and Restaurant 301 delivers.

We don't reside on the north coast but, have made a few trips to the area. Quality dining seems to be hard to find in Eureka. (Not that there isn't some!) Restaurant 301 has to be the finest establishment in that town.

The theme is farm to table. The quality, service and ambiance are to die for. It's white linen table cloth and costs accordingly. But is a great place for the occasional splurge.

We didn't realize that Sunday night was prix fixe until after we made the reservation. And, the prix fixe menu we found online was not our favorite offerings. But, we decided to take a chance and even participate in the wine pairings which we had never done anywhere before because "experts" tell us they are a rip off.

When we arrived, the prix fixe menu provided was different that what we had found online....and almost twice the price! But, we came with an open mind and were not disappointed.

The lobster salad was wonderful. We both had it. I could eat a salad like that every night. Of course this meant we didn't get to sample the tomato bisque soup.

I had the crabbed stuffed sole and spouse had the filet. Both were excellent!

The death by chocolate desert was quiet small, which we really appreciated. No need to stuff ourselves, which we would have done had it been larger. It was as good as it sounds.

The wines were not bad either. A couple were not to our taste. And frankly, I can't remember which winery and vintage each came from because I certainly didn't write it down. But, it was a nice way to sample things we would not have normally tried.

Our server was the perfect balance between necessary attention and leaving us to have a quite, private dinner.

Overall, the experience at the prix fixe dinner at Restaurant 301 was an excellent one. Not to be missed.

I was nervous after reading some recent reviews, but we had a great experience. The oysters were fresh, clean, and tasty. The filet was cooked perfectly to order and was tender and flavorful. The risotto was creamy and cooked well. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The food was served in little time after ordered. We had an early dinner (arrived at 5:45pm) and I wonder if our great experience is in part due to us being the only ones there when we arrived. Perhaps some of the poor reviews I read were on a a busy night and the restaurant didn't handle the pressure well?? Anyway, I would happily repeat this experience we had.
