Service was good but wait staff could be better educated about what they are serving.
There needs to be an elevated level of service for the elevated environment and food.
Every time (about 6) I have dinned I would have preferred more professional care from the front desk to the wait staff.
Such great service and surperb food! This place is really a great date night find!
Finally made it here for dinner. The menu and food were terrific. The staff was excellent. You cannot go wrong here...
Cheese board was fun and delicious for our group. Warm bread was exceptionally delicious and each of us had a different meal , all great!
First of all, Hotel Domestique, where Restaurant 17 is based, is a fabulous boutique hotel nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The rooms are great, staff extremely processional and super nice, and the views are spectacular. The hotel does cater to cyclists, and the support given to us as riders was superb. I can’t say enough positive things about the front desk staff, cycling support, and cycling guides. Truly top notch.
As for Restaurant 17, I think it just needs to work on its delivery. We were promptly greeted and seated right away. Shortly thereafter we ordered cocktails and appetizers. Our apps arrived before our cocktails which was disappointing. When our cocktails arrived, we went ahead and ordered our mains. Unfortunately, our mains arrived before we finished our apps. It seemed to us that the staff could use some training as it appeared they were all relatively new. I think service could be slowed down a bit to make the overall dining experience more memorable. Despite the somewhat disappointing service of Restaurant 17, the overall experience of Hotel Domestique was wonderful and we will surely visit again.
Went there for a 22nd anniversary. Enjoyed the atmosphere and music.
Food was good but could have been better. Service was good but could have been better. Ambiance was not good at all. It was as if we were dining in a cafeteria or a fast food restaurant. Very disappointing. Thankfully it wasn’t too pricey. Will not go back.
Overall experience was very good. The location and restaurant were beautiful and we were very pleased with the menu. Only downfall was the staff was not familiar with the menu/wine list and had a hard time giving recommendations and elaborating on the menu. However, we will be happy to recommend the restaurant and book again.
We thoroughly enjoyed Restaurant 17! From our extremely knowledgeable waiter to every recommendation he made, we loved it! I had the oyster appetizer which was so different with all the interesting combination of flavors. My husband had the pork belly appetizer, which I tried, and it was also wonderful. The homemade bread and black truffle butter made me eat two pieces (and I don't usually like bread). My husband had the duck entree and I had the tuna and both were incredible. They were accompanied by wonderful side items that paired deliciously. But the best part was the chocolate sea salt caramel dessert with espresso ice cream! The combination of flavors was just amazing! We will definitely be back and highly recommend Restaurant 17!
Amazing food. Being “food enthousiastes” from Paris, France, we are never sure what to expect while traveling. 17’s chef deserves a Michelin’s star. We loved it.
It was fabulous!
We had not visited Restaurant 17 for several months, and I am sorry that we stayed away for so long! Our dinner was completely delicious! The menu was bursting with options that either of us would have enjoyed. We both ordered a green salad that was presented beautifully. The salad was fresh and made inventive uses of some local ingredients. For dinner, I chose the veal bolognese, and even though it was from the small plates menu, it was perfectly portioned for my entree. The bolognese was a tasty and cozy choice for a chilly night. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and made spot on recommendations for beer and wine. Our only complaint is with the reception service, which was slow, not as attentive, and a bit flustered. Overall, an excellent farm-to-table option.
Delicious food/beverage and impeccable service!
This may have been one of my worst dining experiences in ages. I ordered veal piccata and was served 2 pieces of breaded and deep fried (into oblivion) pieces of unrecognizable meat (?), spaghetti and a tasteless sauce. At best it was disgusting and inedible. When I told the waiter how bad it was, he countered with "we're still trying to get the chef in tune with the menu". WHAT!!! At least they didn't charge me. And, the waiter didn't even know what veal piccata looked like.
My wife ordered the "Italian Week" special. The salad arrived sans dressing and the meal was bizarre at best. When he brought the dressing, it was horrible. The bread however, was good as was the desert. I can do as well in a bakery. As far as I'm concerned, they should have "compted" the whole table of four for presenting us with such a poor dining experience
This had been one of our favorite restaurants but this was the third bad meal in the 18 months, and for the prices charged, that's inexcusable. If they don't correct their ways soon, they won't stay in business. It's time to set the ship back on the right course, and right now, it's far astray.
The net: that was their third strike. There are other GOOD restaurants in the Greenville/Hendersonville/Asheville area that offer excellent dining and we'll opt for them in the future.
I was very surprised by the level of service and quality of the food. It was definitely less than on par with our past experiences at Restaurant 17.
We have always loved this restaurant but had not dined there in two years - not because we didn't want to but just because it is more suitable for date night than for a family with teenagers who are a little picky about the menu. We were very excited to go to the restaurant again for Restaurant Week but we were rather disappointed with the food. Perhaps it was just the choices that were given to us, but we found the appetizers to be "lack-luster", the entrees good -but not as "wow" as we had remembered from the past, and the famous doughnuts we remembered so fondly were dry and rather tough to eat. I'm hoping that it was just a not-so-great experience because of Restaurant Week and limited food choices - because this restaurant has always been a wonderful place to dine for a special evening - it has such a beautiful location and typically delicious and creative food preparation. In spite of our disappointment, we will give them a try again because the service was great and the staff was very attentive and caring.
The Restaurant Week Menu was an excellent value; some dishes were 5 star- some, not as great but certainly adventurous and creative. Location, view and service are excellent. Wine list quite nice.
Diner was amazing. I had she crab soup best in town my husband had duck, fall off the bone good. Desserts were amazing as always!!
Restaurant Week
Standing water between parking and entrance and with poor lighting you step into water over your shoes.
Pleasant staff and ok menu choices.
Not on my list of got to go back anytime soon
We went for restaurant week. Half of our items were good. Half were not. The spinach salad was way too salty. The lobster pasta dish was again salty and had a very bad taste. The doughnut dessert was inedible. We had great expectations but it missed the mark.
Great food and just a wonderful evening
I have been to Restaurant 17 a few times and this visit was quite disappointing. I brought friends from out of town because I had enjoyed it so much in the past. However this time the food was just not good. I dont think anyone enjoyed their entrees, and all for different reasons. Mine was bland, one was too salty, another was dry, and the last was just mediocre and a small portion for a "large plate" and the price associated. Not sure if they got a new chef or just poor menu change. Its a great location and fun to visit, may wait a while before visiting again.
Third time being to restaurant 17 to celebrate my girlfriend and I anniversary. This is our favorite restaurant and it never disappoints. service was great, good was fantastic and the mixed drinks kicks it up a notch.
We were blown away by this restaurant!
It felt very European & the wait staff and food were excellent!
We will definitely return
Thanksgiving was saved! I was sick for two weeks prior and couldn't cook. Not only were they open, the pre fixe menu was extensive and imaginative with something for everyone in our group. The new bartender Brian is a treasure! We challenged him to prepare gin drinks from the 1920's and he came through with enthusiasm and delicious cocktails! Bravo! Thank you Restaurant 17 for saving our holiday and making it memorable.
Request table w view. Beautiful mtns
The service was fantastic. The bar and appetizer plate was excellent. The main courses were not as good as I’d hoped considering the checkin process and hospitality was first class.
We love it and we are planning to come back ;)
Decided to try Restaurant 17 based on their recent review as top restaurant in the Upstate. The food was wonderful. Wish I been hungrier but the small plates were filling and I will order from their mains the next time I am there. Wine choices and craft cocktails were excellent and their beer list, though not long, had some very good choices.
My only complaint would be that the dining room had a cold "feel" so we decided to sit in the bar where the service was outstanding. We will definitely be going back!!
Amazing ambiance. Amazing food. Amazing bartender.
Had a great time and a wonderful server who took time to take our picture out by the fountain. Wonderful food as well!
Very good food and service. The dining room is very stark and not inviting. The restaurant should invest into rugs or other items to warm it up.
Very quiet for a Friday night. The food presentation was creative and fresh pasta delicious!
The pork belly tacos were very good. The farfalle and fig pasta was delicious but a very small portion. The rib eye with goat cheese potatoes were good. Great service and ambiance.
The food at Restaurant 17 is fantastic. If it were just up to the food, I would go back often. The problem lies in the service. The waitstaff is very nice, but the knowledge of the menu is below par. When asked simple questions, the server could not answer them, such as, “What type of vodka do you have?” or “What cut is the venison that is featured on the menu?”.
We sat upstairs and if we asked a question that required an answer of the kitchen staff, the server would just stand there and say that she would have to go down to ask the kitchen, but she would never go.
Overall the service was lacking polish for the caliber restaurant that I believe Restaurant 17 is striving for. I would say to them, go back in history a few years to Devereaux’s in downtown Greenville and take a lesson in proper waitstaff training and execution.
Excellent meal, great cocktails. Very quiet so easy to talk and the tables are spread out. Staff is excellent.
Love this place one of my favorite restaurants in the area great food service and drinks. Would highly recommend.
Super friendly, stunningly good fresh food, prompt service, great views
I was very disappointed. Had a good reputation & we were celebrating my husbands birthday. Too casual, very noisy, and too expensive for the setting.
