While it’s an interesting place and a pretty setting, the restaurant had nothing but hard surfaces, including a concrete floor, no tablecloths, and unpadded chairs. There was a party upstairs, and the noise spilled right down to the dining area, so we chose to eat outside, but the only available table was in the sun, and it was quite warm. Our waiter was great, but food only so-so.
Wow! The setting is absolutely fantastic. A view of the mountains from a beautiful building that radiates tranquility. And amazingly the food and service only enhance this setting. A good wine list of reasonably priced New World and Old World wines. Great locally sourced menu. The Carolina trout was delicious. As was the duck breast. The goat cheesecake was a perfect way to end the meal. Well worth the short and scenic drive.
Great getaway location with great tasting food and service.
Finally got to experience this place! Our waiter seemed a little timid and inexperienced. My trout was fantastic, excellent presentation. My wife had chicken and loved it! Wine list was very good and we took advantage of that, really enjoyed our choice. Dessert was only real disappointment. Seemed too small and lacked panache.
Our server Brandon was the most positive thing about 17 although he should have noticed that my rather small martini glass was 1/3 filled when the olives were removed and 2/3 filled with olives included. I thought they were bringing the shaker as many classy restaurants do. But more Tito’s came after I pointed it out.
Food was “ok”. Medium burger was red inside. Small pasta plate was really small. Cheese platter was excellent.
Excellent food, service and beautiful atmosphere!
We live nearby but had not been to Restaurant 17 in maybe 2 years. A lot of changes took place, and during those changes we had disappointing dining experiences. For whatever reason, we ate there again recently. Once again, they have experienced some changes, but I hope these last because this dinner was great for all 4 of us. If you haven't been to Restaurant 17 in a while, you should give it a try.
Everything was very good the ribeye steak was two pieces cut out of a larger piece so you felt like you were eating a New York strip.
My wife had the pork chop and it was a little tough appetizers sides drinks were all excellent next time I’ll get the lamb
We had the most delicious meal. The foie gras was perfect, the beet salad so fresh and soft shell crab amazing! Our wait staff was attentive but never hovering. Thank you for a perfect evening. We will definitely return.
Everything was fun and lovely! The only drawback was the food was not hot but everything else made up for that:-)
Well we were blown away by the setting in the mountains. The restaurant is located in the Domestique Hotel, which looks like a French chateau... totally charming. The drinks are innovated and delicious as is the food. The menus is out of the ordinary and delicious. They serve in season only dishes. I had the soft shell crabs. They were uniquely prepared and delicious! My friend had the pork chop it was fantastic! Tender and juicy. We were 3 people so we had several appetizers all good.
The service was very warm, friendly, attentive and prideful.
Also they have excellent wine selection.
Seventeen is a jewel of a place.. a totally special experience
Service and food were excellent and so accommodating to our food allergies. Fresh local food served as you overlook the mountains.
Catfish and burgers were outstanding.
We enjoyed it. The lamb was not my favorite. I’m a big fan of lamb, and this one missed the mark. However, the cheese board was AMAZING. And the Sundae was fantastic as well.
It is a little jem. We try to go at least once a month
What a great feeling this restaurant has, from the location and decor, to the ambience. My husband and I drove from Greenville to find this gem and we were rewarded when we found they had foie gras on the menu.
It’s amazing! I loved Hayden! He did an amazing job!
Having just shared our disappointment, I did contact Danielle, the hotel manager. She was most understanding, and accepting of our honest feedback regarding our dining experience. And, we do believe her as she ensured us that our next experience will be a positive one.
Thanks to Danielle, we will be back.
Kudos to her!
Love the restaraunt food, atmosphere and serves is always first class. A great getaway
It was a great atmosphere, but dinner didn't last very long. We were one of the last people there and it was only 9:30. Foot was delicious and cooked very well. Service was very polite and great to us.
This was our third time to go for Valentine's Day and we would go again. They had a three-course meal and we enjoyed it all. From the oysters to the duck and then the chocolate fondue. It was all delicious.
impeccable food ! Loved everything about the menu the veggie rolls for an appetizer let me know that the entree couldn’t diss appoint and it didn’t !
Amazing fresh good from local farmers, menu changes constantly, flavors are put of this world.
Great Restaurant Week menu! My smoked lamb was absolutely delicious. Waiter made a thoughtful wine selection to pair with it.
Great experience for Restaurant Week. Great menu and choices. New chef is doing an excellent job. Entrees came out lukewarm, but still tasty. Will be back!
We went during restaurant week. This is a very attractive venue and the service and food were extraordinary. Servings were generous, the wait staff very unobtrusive but attentive. This is a nice find in our new home, Greenville. It would be a top restaurant in Cincinnati, where we are from.
Restaurant 17 is one of our favorite restaurant. We love the place and it’s close to our house. Perfect for a romantic evening.
We had made reservations during Restaurant Week and showed up ten minutes early. The staff wasn't ready for a lunch crowd. We were seated after wandering around for 15 minutes looking for anyone working there (we were their only customers at that time). They didn't have any iced tea, so we drank water. My husband ordered coffee, it was served cold in a soup cup. They took our order before another couple arrived 20 minutes later, got seated and served them 15 minutes before us. We ordered sandwiches and soup and everything came out of the kitchen cold. (Melted cheese sandwiches are not very good when served cold.) We were all disappointed with Restaurant 17 - and we were so looking forward to our meal there. It felt as though the staff was busy prepping for their evening dinner and we were an inconvenience that interrupted their prep time. Their prices are a bit outrageous even for a high end restaurant.
Thanks to their participation in Restaurant Week, we were able to sample their fine restaurant and spectacular mountain views after our recent move to Greenville. Beautifully presented and mouth-watering cuisine with and equally impressive wine list. We will be regulars!
Did not know it was restaurant week, so the menu was limited and the staff busy. I don't think they are used to having 100 diners. Felt pressured to order. The main courses were served within ten minutes of the first course. So, when I started on my shredded lamb and purple cabbage it was not only dry, overcooked, but also not warm. New waitstaff and new Chef. After Chef Greg McPhee and Chef Nick Graves, the bar is set pretty highly. I will go back next month and try again. I'm hoping this was just an off night.
As part of Restaurant week we like to try new places. Very friendly welcome and Robert was a great waiter. Very good team concept as many people served us. Food was fabulous. Great date restaurant (my wife loved getting treated to a nice evening).
This is the third time we’ve dined for Restaurant Week here. This one was by far the best! The new chef is amazing. Went with another couple and between us we shared every plate on the menu. None of us could pick a favorite they were all so good!
This was our first time visiting. The food and service were very good, we enjoyed a quiet dinner.
Very bad,over priced.
Food was not what we expected and service was rushed.
Never will return.
Wonderful dining experience at Restaurant 17. Remembered from previous visits that I eat gluten-free so modified dishes for me. Couldn't be happier with quality, service or atmosphere.
My food was warm to cold, asked for my steak mid well, hoping that perhaps it would at least be medium, it was rare and cold. Disappointed in the flavor of the whole dish, blah
We celebrated our anniversary here during Restaurant Week. So many terrific options to choose from. We were doted on by all levels of staff which was much appreciated.
Limited menu because of NYE, but the entire meal was fantastic. Great service and ambiance.
Was extremely excited to finally try this restaurant. I was told by many people that it was not that great...I however wanted to give it a try. Well I was totally flabbergasted! There were more servers than people eating yet I waited 20 min for a glass of wine and was asked four different times what I would like to eat???? Anyway the food was great! The atmosphere fantastic but the service was horrible!!! Like I was in an alternate universe!
