Worst service I have received in a restaurant in a long time! I had to refill my own water 5 times (I was near the water pitchers) inattentive and never checked on status until course was finished - ordered vegetarian items, with 1 mistake made on my part - server did not inquire or ask on this even when with 1 dish I specifically said no protein, vegetarian. Would NEVER come back here!
I’m always skeptical regarding restaurants in Quebec City as many cater to the tourist trade. This resto did not disappoint! We shared a Discovery Platter with great cheeses and cold cuts which you don’t usually find in our local restaurants. For sure they were imported. I had the beef cheek which was tender and tasty. The accompanying sauce was light and well seasoned. The meet was sitting on a cheesy bed of mashed potatoes and the side was a perfectly cooked medley of vegetables and home cut fries. My wife had a delicious balsamic dressed salad with a 1/2 lobster on top. The only complaint was a mediocre capuchino. The wine suggested was very good. Pretty good value for the money. And he staff were all smiles and very professional
Lively atmosphere with great music and reasonable priced menu. Great location and friendly service
The food was excellent. Would give it 4.5 stars if that were an option. Loved the deconstructed Cesar salad served on a slate tile. Beef cheeks in wine sauce were succulent. The service was personable and attentive but not intrusive. We dined inside, but they have a nice patio dining area. View from the patio is of Hotel Frontenac. We prefer quiet dining, so luckily for us we were there on a night when there was no live music. The cocktails were inventive takes on old standards, and delicious.
Visited from fancy reviews but it was disappointing.
Ate here while visiting Quebec City, it came recommended. The food tasted good, Lamb shank, but was served very quickly, within a few minutes of ordering, and was just lukewarm. Also, one person was served the wrong item, but it was a miscommunication English/French. Beautiful restaurant, great location and good service. Would go back again when visiting the city.
Service was nice and friendly. Great location. The food was just not good.
Beautiful restaurant, fantastic food (and wine) and exceptional service (thanks Lucas!)
This is one of Quebec Cities finest dining spots with classic dining in a casual setting. The food, service, wine list are all among the best I have ever experienced. This is a “must” when dining in Quebec City!
Meal was very good. Tuna and salmon tartare and maple crepe brûlée was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and it was such a pleasure to have her wait on us. She remembered us the next morning at breakfast and greeted us like old friends. Breakfast was very delicious too. Would recommend eating here and would definitely come back again.
The service was terrible!!
Great food and service, on short notice, for our family of seven
Nice restaurant, live music, good location and environment.
But make sure reservation before you go, otherwise you may need to wait 1 hours during the business time 7 - 9pm
Located right across from the Chateau Frontenac so there is lots of tourist activity. Service was very attentive and friendly. We were four and had a walleye, a vegetarian cannelloni, a bistro salad, and a plank plus onion soup - all were just OK.
Food was excellent, my wife had walleye and I had French soup and salmon from the 3 course menu. We started with a cheese plank with our drinks. Service was unrushed and responsive. Highly recommend.
Beautiful restaurant and delicious food . Service was great and was a wonderful dining experience
Restaurant was recommended by a friend who recently visited Quebec. Food was good, service marginal at best.
The food was good but a little overpriced and in smaller portions to so many other comparable restaurants in and around Old Quebec. Avoid ordering alcoholic beverages by the glass...they are tiny and most notably a rip off in comparison. This is after a 3 week trip and numerous restaurant meals across the east coast. It was noticeable that our waiter did not like one of 4 sharing a plate of food and behaved oddly after that.
Muy buen restaurante, lugar encantador para cenar en la ciudad vieja de Quebec.
Not impressed by food and service was mediocre at best.
Amazing service and amazing food. We got the cheese plate and a giant bowl of curry mussels to share. The mussels aren’t on the menu so you have to ask!
This is a lovely restaurant with outdoor seating just across from a little park square and the iconic Chateau Frontenac Hotel. The plates were beautifully prepared and presented, and were actually much more interesting than the menu's description. They serve throughout the day and is justifiably a very popular place. Reservations for dinner highly recommended.
Had reservation. Got there and maitre d said reservations only for interior dinning. He was snobbish about it, we were fine inside anyways although it was perfect to sit outside. He told me “ you’ll have to be placed on waiting list for outside” - it’s not like the opentable app gives the choice. His tone was just terrible and rude. They were busy and I can understand but you need to treat guests with respect. My waiter was terrific. Fast service with appetizers and dinner. The food was excellent but the $12 French onion soup was pretty bland. Overall good but not excellent and expensive because of the local. The best thing about the visit was the service from waiter and speed in which food was prepared. It was a bit loud inside, but expected from a busy restaurant. The attitude of the matre d was just awful. It was my second time going there because I stay at the Fairmont across the street. I will skip this next time I’m in town based on my experience.
Loved the location. Easy to find. Look for the red roof. Sat outside and enjoyed the cool breeze. Caesar salad as a starter was very good. Service was superb. Table is a little small so need to juggle dishes.
The food and service was great! I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and I would recommend this restaurant to friends in the future!
My favorite meal on my visit to Quebec City. Not only is the food perfection, but the service is fabulous. My filet was "melt in your mouth" tender. My date inhaled his lamb shank in no time. When food is this flavorful, smooth and textured, it is a pleasure to dine... and when you are softly serenaded by piano and accordion - you have a great romantic setting. Lighting was soft. Music was sweet. Food was devine. Every recommendation was everything that they described was divine. The location could not be better across from a fountain and the Castle, by the fortifications that overlook the river.... street performers alive with energy when we left...it was a scene out of every romantic movie ever.
I can't recommend this place enough. We loved it! And to top it off, our server chatted us up about our trip and gave us recommendations of things to visit in the surrounding area that we should not miss. When we finally make it back to QC - we will be returning here!
Great setting in Quebec City, great service and mediocre food.
Great food and service. While there were large groups present, the service for my wife and I was exceptional. The food was particularly good.
The food was absolutely amazing. Ambiance was spot on and a must experience while visiting Quebec City!
Visiting Quebec City with my daughter... had a great night at 1640! Fun, lively, happy vibe here... food was delish too!
A great and plentiful breakfast complete with fruit and ..... A red velvet cupcake! How civilized! :)
The live music was excellent. We did not mind if being on the loud side. Atmosphere can be considered intimate or romantic, but also great for dinner in a large group.
Just a dinner that makes you full. Not worth the money. Very bad food quality. This is not fine dining, so don’t be fooled.
My husband and I went to Restaurant 1640 on our recent trip to Quebec City. We had a dinner reservation, and it was a wonderful experience. Our server was fantastic, and we had a great seat right by the window. I highly recommend the onion soup. There was an accordion/piano player who really added so much to our time there - he was excellent.
Amazing! Walleye superb.
Had a reservation for breakfast but the door was locked. They weren’t open. Went elsewhere. Very disappointed as we had only this opportunity to try them.
Very good food , French onion soup was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
We had a great family meal at 1640. The atmosphere was inviting, yet formal. We had our 3 children with us (ages 14,11, & 5). They all enjoyed their food and were treated very well. The food was very good and the service was as superb.
Great atmosphere, and French Cuisine!
Took our 2 teenaged daughters. Their favorite meal on our trip. Live music was moderately loud and high quality. Almost everyone was having fun.
