Reserve is our go-to place every time we head to Grand Rapids. We are treated with excellent service each time we go and the food is always great, and love getting recommendations for the charcuterie board, and the wine which will accompany it!
Let me start by saying, overall a great experience!
A few areas of improvement;
Would love the waiter to explain highlights of the menu, differences between the small plates, appetizers, how many of each he recommends...I dined with new guests and they wanted more guidance on the menu than was offered.
Food was delicious!!!! Please never take the squash stuffed pasta with sage off the menu. It’s amazing! The pasta here has improved a lot since last time I dined here (caico e peppe was not over cooked and flavorless- it was al dente and flavorful!!) Wine pours are smaller than they should be considering the markup and price. Also, the ‘tasting’ charge is ridiculous. You know a large table is going to spend hundreds on wine throughout the night, if they ask for a taste of a wine (that you serve by the glass) before ordering it, DO NOT CHARGE THEM for it! You are a wine bar for goodness sake!
Also, the ambiance is a bit cold, would love to see dimmer lighting, candles at tables, a few small touches could really help this spot out from an ambiance standpoint.
Just a few improvements could take it from great to extraordinary!
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Food is marvelous, and the wine list is probably the nest in the city.
While I wanted to appreciate the creative food selections, the flavors for the pastas were not great. The wine list was amazing and I received a great recommendation from our waiter.
Our second visit and blown away again with the level of service, food and beverages. Reserve is an exceptional dining experience.
We had a very enjoyable time before going to the theater. We liked the seating as you get to visit with other people which we enjoy. The food was great as well! We will definitely be back!
We had a reservation at 6pm (arrived on time) prior to the musical at Devos. Ordered an appetizer (Pork fat fries) which didn't show up until 6.58 We had told our waiter we didn't want our meal to arrive on top of appetizer. Obviously our dinner showed up at 5 min. later. We had to rush to finish it and get to the 7:30 show time. His explanation was it's busy and your appetizer takes a long time. Ordered the same thing one other time and time wasn't an issue. Feel like we can't return when we are attending a show at Devos. Very disappointed in our service on this visit. Food was delicious just wish we could have enjoyed it.
Our server was nice and helpful. The food was decent. I thought the food service was slow- it took an hour after ordering appetizer for it to come and then 15 minutes later we got our entrees. Based on the speed of service I would probably go somewhere else in the future.
the restaurant is vibrant, love the décor and love the food! I will definitely come back! GREAT service by Rachel!
The downtown location is convenient for hotel guests, however the ambiance didn’t quite fit a wine bar as it was very brightly lit, service was mediocre at best, and the food was disappointing. The white fish was dry and bland, and the lamb was extremely fatty.
Staff was lovely, atmosphere was gorgeous. Our charcuterie and wine suggestions from our server (Jordan) was top notch. We will definitely be back. One of our favorite spots!
We had several small plates and two mains. Everything was impressive, and the waiter’s wine pairing suggestions were spot on.
had a great experience at reserve on New Years even with my date. the server was great, great drink options and excellent food. Will come back!
I am a discriminating diner, not a picky eater. So when I tell you that I was disappointed with my Caesar’s salad, it is because I know what one should taste like and what the ingredients should be. This salad was advertised as having anchovy in it. Perfect. That's how it should be. However, this one came with chunks of herring in it, as well as the chicken skin crumbles from my friend’s Brussels Sprouts. Not a good Caesar salad. It was palatable so I ate the entire thing. I didn’t send it back because I didn’t want to make my friend wait for me and my food before he ate.
The wine was terrific, as usual. It’s really the only thing I come for, but I figured I should eat something with it. So I did. I hope the next time things will be better.
Christmas with friends
Found this place online. We’ve been trying a new restaurant each month in downtown GR and it was my turn to pick. We weren’t disappointed!
Great date night for my husband and I! Food and wine were delicious!
We took our daughter and son in law out to celebrate her graduation from grad school, and as expected, Reserve was amazing! When we mentioned the occasion, we were treated with glasses of complimentary champagne. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the wine and drink pairings. The food was delicious, the ambiance warm and inviting. Our new favorite restaurant!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Reserve Wine followed by a concert at DeVos Performance Hall. I was pleasantly surprised by the Happy Hour offerings. I'm a picky eater, but was able to find foods that I loved (while people at neighboring tables enjoyed more exotic food). The staff was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu.
I've already been recommending Reserve to friends.
Excellent. Loved the menu options and wine flights.
Wine pours were very small, maybe 4-5oz, expected more for the high price
The food and service was very good. The wine list is amazing! The service is slow which is expected in a restaurant of this caliber. I would recommend making sure you have enough time if you are attending a show or concert after.
Exceptional food, service and atmosphere. The happy hour is key if you can hit it!
Even when "matched" by social media engines with several other restaurants in my town, the staff, the food, and the ambience at Reserve always draw me back as the place at which I feel 'at home.' The happy hour specials on pastas and handhelds appeal to my economical side--but that's just a matter of time on the clock (between 2-6 p.m.) Any time I am due downtown Grand Rapids for an event, Reserve has my vote. A warm welcome, joyful atmosphere, and dedication to delightful food prep and service are waiting for you!
The service was top shelf! My wife wasn't over the moon on her salad. They took it off her bill and made her another one. Our waitress as well as the manager, were absolutely wonderful!
Happy Hour menu options are the best in town. Enjoyable pre-theatre dinner experience.
Tyler waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful waiter. Glad we had him as our waiter. Fab food and glad you had 2Lads wine!
We were a party of three and looking to participate in the Fall Collins launch. We were disappointed when the server was a bit confused with our order, and the drink itself didn't stand up to the description or the hype. We ended up ordering different cocktails and not evening finishing the Templeton Rye cocktail.
Great food, a fantastic menu of wine, and our server, Greg, who is also the somm, made the evening so enjoyable! Merçi beaucoup!
We were looking forward to visiting this restaurant, but unfortunately the service was not very attentive and the Market Fish of the day was very bland. Wine list is extensive, but be willing to pay $15 to $30 dollars for a 6 ounce pour.
the ambiance was good and wait staff was good. I thought the food was kind of plain.
Wine was very good and had a large variety. Food was a little too pricy for portion sizes. I ordered dessert which was maybe two spoon fulls for $9.
We sat at the bar & the staff is so knowledgeable. All recommendations were on point!
We dinned before a concert. Food, wine and service were very good as always. We will be back!
Meal could have been better, but would like to give it one more try.
We love Reserve and visit at least once on every GRap trip. Interesting food and great wine offerings. Waitstaff super. Highly recommend.
Went pre-theatre and found it was Happy Hour with 50% off certain food items. That was a real bonus. The service was great. Thought the regular prices were a bit high...$12.00 for a beet salad that was scrumptious, but small. Pasta was great. Reuben sandwich was a bit gristly. The ambience is great. I would go again.
Reserve was recommended to my husband and I due to the proximity of it from our hotel and concert venue. The atmosphere was modern and upbeat. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. The food was well prepared and presented.
We went to dinner before the broadway show with plenty of time. Our server took great care of us. The food was very good, although the wild salmon was more like a trout, not salmon.
The price tag ended up being much higher than I expected.
The champagne was good as was the Caymus we picked. Other than that the food was awful. The meatballs in the spaghetti and meatballs were served raw. The ribeye was cold and appeared to be pounded as it was 1/2" thick at most. The steak was served over Brussel sprouts (as I asked) with nothing else on the plate. The meal was not served with any bread or anything. No one came back until much later to see how the food was. The person who did come was nice enough to tell the manager and indeed they took if off the bill but by then we were well through a crummy meal. Overall, it is pretty inside, and the wine list is decent. Otherwise, not a recommendation.
