Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the historic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. to summarize my first and second visit, they are polar opposite. my first visit was magnificent! the food was good, the service was good and appropriate. however, last night i went there again, it was completely like a different restaurant. The food was so bad, inedible to the point i need to return 2 dishes out of 3 dishes i ordered. the service was also very rude and unaccommodating. it was one of the worst restaurant experiences that i’ve ever had.

We were out with out-of-town visiting friends celebrating their recent engagement. We had a reservation for 8:30 and were sat at 8:50/8:55 and then we were sat outside which isn’t nearly as nice as the main area. Three different hosts told us our table was ready probably because they could tell I was getting frustrated. Sitting outside isn’t great given that when you have to go to the bathroom you have to go all the way out on the street and then back inside. Definitely a pain and the experience wasn’t nearly as good as our first time there.

For the prices at this restaurant it should be outstanding. It wasn't, in spite of its number 5 spot of the list of best LA restaurants. The $24 salad was good but not great. The $75+ dover sole was drenched in butter. The approximately $48 agnolotti was delicious, as was the cucumber and mint cocktail. The service felt rushed and it was overly intrusive, with staff asking repeatedly if they could remove plates and glasses. The ambience was lovely and I was happy to be able to hear my dinner companion. But we were in the back dining room. The front dining was very noisy. The meal set us each back almost $200, and I will not be returning because it wasn't good enough to justify those prices.

Republique is a wonderful restaurant. Everything we tried was succulent. The service was impeccable. The sommelier Max was attentive and had great suggestions for pairing the wine with our meal! Congrats to all the staff at Republique.

The service was fine, if rushed. I honestly don’t understand the hype as the food is nicely presented but overpriced (relative to portion size) and the food is just ok. Seems to attract a lot of tourists. The restaurant itself is in a very nicely renovated structure that integrates a historic building with modern structures.

It was a birthday dinner and friends’ get together. The restaurant provided a handwritten birthday card. It was so sweet! The drinks are always perfect and tasted refreshing. We ordered appetizers, main dishes and dessert. The fresh rotating menu always uses the best ingredients and we loved the oysters and lobster pasta dish. Note: You have to order the Normandy butter and baguette.

We went here to celebrate our son’s birthday as he loves to cook. Every aspect of the experience met our expectations. It was our first time here and our waiter was very helpful in guiding us through our dining choices. The only issue was that the lighting is very low and we had to use a flash light in order to read the menu. We noticed other diners doing the same. Overall we had a great time and our meal was enhanced by the attentive staff. If it’s your first time here I recommend reviewing the menu prior to your dining event. That will help you to navigate the various choices.

We had arrived a little early and although they said we wouldn’t be seated until closer to our reservation time, they did seat us sooner. The staff was very present and aware, from management down to bussers. When our server was presenting the menu or explaining drinks, other staff wouldn’t dare interrupt or distract by bringing extra setups or plates until server presentation was completed. Our server was very educated and comfortable on all aspects of the menu—food and cocktails, (and there was a somm on hand for wine queries). Staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was ethereal. We were seated outside where a heater was turned out without us having to ask (unseasonably cool for Los Angeles). The ambiance was lovely, spacious and inviting. There was music playing overhead which was great as it created a laid back vibe and served as an intriguing juxtaposition to the fine-dinning level of culinary deliciousness. We would definitely go back -especially to try the desserts (which we were too full for) and the hyper-seasonal cocktails.

Loved the ambiance, music, and energy of the space. It was the perfect place for a birthday dinner, and I'll definitely be back for date night. Love love love! And the Crudo was TO DIE FOR.
