République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

Server Anthony was outstanding. Knew the menu inside and out. Attentive without being obtrusive.
Food was on point. Brussel Sprout bacon app is a must. Huge wine list for every budget. Somm. sold us a red burgundy that didn't break the bank, but paired with the short ribs really well. Manager Melissa also came by and made us feel special. Will be coming back.

The staff is beautiful and amazing, which makes the whole experience so much better. The food is so good, and creative. The care and attention that they pay to their guests is reflected in the food. Fresh ingredients, used to absolute perfection. If you like bourbon, you can’t go wrong with any of their cocktails, utilizing seasonal fruit juices. They have amazing wine as well. Republique is a must try restaurant.

The restaurant has cool outdoor look. Love the decor and atmosphere. Large waiting area. The service was great, our waiter left in the mid of service and had another waiter take over and it seamless. The food was excellent, what was memorable was the potato leeks beignets, beef tartare, hearts of palm salad and the duck breast. The salad dressing was so delicious and the duck was cook perfectly.

Tres magnifique! The setting reminded me of walking in to the kitchens of a French chateau - complete with people shucking oysters and prepping other delectables. The menu is a series of small, medium and large plates - definitely plan on sharing! We ordered multiple small plates and shared a medium plate, leaving room for dessert and cheese. The highlight was an amazing dish that elevated the humble cauliflower to new heights - the cauliflower was roasted to a nice caramel, and paired with dates, peanuts and yogurt. I wanted to lick the bowl but decided that was a bit gauche. The baguette with Normandy butter was a taste of France, I had a Proustian response immediately upon the first bite.

I have yet to be disappointed with my experience at Republique for brunch or for dinner. Great lively vibe, attentive warm staff, and the food and cocktails creations are all so thoughtful made. Hands down my favorite LA eatery!

The service was outstanding. Friendly and accommodating hostess, waiter, management. Everyone was exceptionally attentive and enthusiastic. Food was good but maybe a bit expensive for what it was.

I love the food at Republique, but our 915pm reservation was 45 min late. That’s excessive, especially when it’s a $$ bill. In my opinion, completely unacceptable. The bar was two or three people deep. There’s nowhere to stand and wait and there were 20 people ahead of us. It was an absolute mess. The hosts and waiters, along with manager, were lovely, but still something isn’t being done right if that’s the case. Very frustrating.

Felt like a corporate restaurant machine. Ratio of staff to customers was almost 1:1 which made for beehive feel. Server overly pretentious and condescending. Value of food to price off scale. Wine pours skimpy. Pasta over al denté. But cocktails crafty and delicious. Bread & butter delicious. Sole and black cod very good.

Food was amazing. A bit pricey, I had a salad, scallops that were cut into small pieces it look like 2 scallops. A short rip, Rose Mary chicken and a piece of chocolate cake. No drinks, a $160 plus for 2 people. Over all i would go back again.

My expectations were high; Republique is on so many "it" lists. The service was impeccable from the start; our server was able to recommend an excellent wine based on our description of what we liked, and when the 6-piece appetizer we chose sounded too heavy/much for the meal we were about to eat, he proactively brought out a small sample size of the appetizer, just for us to taste.

Off to a lovely start... then, the food arrived. The Little Gem salad came w/ a green sauce that was delicious, particularly with the avocado, but the salad was packed so tight inside a tall bowl, that a mess was inevitably made as soon as it was served; just getting stuff out of the bowl required some gymnastics. After that, we shared the roasted chicken, which was 1/2 of a very slightly undercooked and entirely tasteless chicken (literally no flavor), and soggy, wet skin. I was shocked they thought to let it out of the kitchen that way. That came w/ a side dish of sliced potatoes with onions that had been carmelized to sogginess as well, and to a point where the "sweet" completely overtook the earthy element that gives onion its culinary currency. A side dish of Brussels sprouts was good - nice chunks of perfectly-cooked bacon always get an A+ from me -- but not exceptional; I cook 'em better at home, myself.

Atmosphere was lovely, service was outstanding, menu is well-balanced and creative, yet somehow, the food -- the very thing we came for -- fell flat. Too expensive and precious to recommend, I'm sad to say.

Fantastic restaurant with creative dishes. Excellent for sharing a variety of plates. We has the outstanding spot prawns with cannelini beans. Superb cavatelli and agnolotti and their always amazing chicken. The brussel sprouts with bacon included broccolini and is delicious. We always enjoy the salted caramel cake and apple pancake style cake. Noisy but superb.

Great food and service. All aspects of the restaurant working perfectly. Very knowledgeable wait staff. Excellent wine list.. loved the pasta ragu and butter cake for dessert. Fantastic birthday dinner with my wife..

They wouldn't seat me in till the only other person of my reservation was there... There were plenty of tables open, but they made me wait in the entry area / hectic bar situation. Super awkward, people / waiters bumping in to me constantly, and the hosts were annoying / rude LA wannabee actors who just should have sat me. I don't care if that's your policy, it's a stupid one since you get a bill at the end regardless. Most LA establishments have done away with this.. It's not a law, so to me it's not an excuse to make you awkwardly stand around waiting for a so so aging restaurant.

I highly recommend the Kanpachi Crudo, Heirloom tomato salad, and Pork Loin—they were wonderful.

The space is beautiful as well, just a bit tight quarters and a little noisy.

It was also expensive, but it was a special occasion and the quality of the food was very good.

Didn’t get seated until 45 minutes after our reservation and was not given a heads up there would be any delay, let alone a significant one. Had to follow up multiple times. Was finally given a bad table. Waited for the server to greet us for 10 minutes and asked for a wine list. We waited 15 more minutes to order a bottle of wine and no one came, so we left. Unapologetically bad service and will never be returning.
