République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

Host and hostess and reservation process were less than welcoming. Main dining room is busy and difficult to hold any meaningful conversation. An offer to sit In the back would have been appreciated. Food (oysters, bread, salad, chicken, sabayon) was outstanding.

we love Republique for the occasional splurge dinning, the food is always good and there are always new dishes to experience. The price and portions are more than where we dine on a regular basis such as Alimento, Trattoria Farfalla (Los Feliz), Da Pasquale, Factory Kitchen & others. The burrata, octopus, seared foie gras and the spinach pasta with mushrooms were all excellent. The whole sole was tasty but definitely not worth the $72. On this trip the service was a bit slow and inattentive compared to our other visits.

It was a mistake to choose this restaurant for my birthday dinner. The portions were laughable for a larger party, and the server who took our order was very condescending air about her. I had a very excellent experience here previously for brunch, but for dinner, it’s quite a different atmosphere altogether. Not to mention, I explicitly mentioned that this booking was for a birthday event, but the restaurant clearly made no note of it. That’s fine - I just know I will never select this restaurant again for any events and highly recommend others to do the same.

République is a lovely restaurant with excellent food. The dishes are meant to be shared and they are copious enough for a party of 4 to comfortably eat. We had the Torchon de Foie Gras appetizer which was decadent, the Rock Fish and the Duck which were both rich, perfectly done and deeply satisfying. The desserts were also mind-blowing. Our host even kindly sat us in the back when we asked for a table that wouldn't be too loud. Highly recommend.

WE WERE Celebrating our 22-year-old daughter who just moved in to a beautiful new apartment in Hancock Park getting ready for law school and this was a place she always wanted to go . So we wanted to bring her here to celebrate this new chapter of her life and how proud we were of her. From the minute we walked in ..to the experience at the bar ..to how they kept checking on us to make sure we were OK and converse with us to make sure that everything was all right and tell us where we stood as to our table being ready !!! The noise level is pretty high but in the main dining room but they led us to this little corner where the ovens and the bakery stand was and we could immediately hear everything we were saying to each other !! we had an excellent service staff that really catered to our needs , bringing water constantly our water glass never went empty they saw when our drinks were low and asked if we would like another!! we had the sweet potato beignets that were out of this world and the scallops(also bursting with flavor) for appetizers and hors d’oeuvres and my daughter and I got two different pastas that were were absolutely fabulous and my husband got the pork large plate that every morsel on it had an indescribably delicious flavor and that’s a big order coming from my husband who always expect s the best and he was thrilled with everything and tasting it was a food experience it was absolutely delicious!!!! I would absolutely absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants a great experience but preface that with asking for a place that maybe would have a quieter table because the overall vibe in the main part by the bar is can get very loud but if you were on a date or celebrating with family or friends and you want to talk you don’t want to be in that middle dining room on a weekend night or it will be hard to converse BUT DONT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM GOING !!! Excellent!!

Food was great and all the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable but the host was horrible. He was a tall man with a bun on his head. He was very rude. He did not communicate well. He acted as if he was better than everyone else.

The food is solid, yet nothing blew me away and for a meal with no alcohol, it was still $200 (for 2 people, including tip).

We visited for the first time with our friends. We got several dishes and shared, mostly on the advice of our server. She was spot on beginning with her tip to get the butter (flown in from France) and bread to start. We shared the chicken and brown butter agnolotti for the mains which were divine!

I was looking forward to Republique and ended up meeting a date for dinner. I have to say the drinks, appetizers, and salad were amazing! The short rib wasn’t my favorite. Loved everything else tho!

They were over half hour late on our reservation but the food was marvelous as was the wait staff. It was just very frustrating to sit so late after our reservation time.

Did not seem to have competent management present. Not impressed with hostess. Had a party of 7 people and would not let 6 of us sit until the 7th showed up. Had a reservation and watched our table sit vacant while we waited an extra 15 minutes standing. For the prices charged for dining this did not fit the expected experience. Need management presence, service was also slow, but the server was great. Food tasted good, but very busy, trying to recreate the wheel with some menu items.

I brought my mom here for her birthday dinner and it was both our first time going here. WE LOVED IT. From the bread to the dessert. Everything was presented well and tasted really good. I wouldn’t change a thing. Our server, Uzie (I’m not sure if I spelled it right), was exceptional!!! She was so great and accommodating. We will definitely be back. We loved every minute! Thank you so much!

The atmosphere was pleasant and the wait staff excellent at their job. Had been in the spot since it was Campanella's and La Brea Bakery, so it had a high benchmark to surpass and I think it did it. Wouldn't hesitate to return or tell friends about it. You can have an entire meal from the appetizers and small plates.

Oysters were good. Salmon crudo tasted cheap and disguised by the Greek yogurt used. Corn ravioli was on point. They charge you $9 for butter

The food is amazing- the service can use some work.

The foie gras is the best I've ever had. Very small portions but decadent nonetheless. Pair with champagne for a real treat. MUST try the foie gras on toast! I am referring to the foie gras mousse

Salads are fresh and uniquely flavored. The restaurant was very accommodating to my dairy allergy. Scallops were fresh and delicious.

Service- The waiter seemed disinterested in his job, which I could accept. However, he offered us the dessert menu prior to our entree arriving- He FORGOT to put our short rib order in. First he said he "forgot" then he said "I read your order back to you" to try to blame us. All after ordering an appetizer, salad and a bottle of champagne. I know for a fact we did not forget that.

Not sure when I'll be back again...but that foie gras...

The restaurant itself is beautiful in the French bistro style. We were seated on time. Drinks were excellent and the food was even better...top shelf with service to match. We found nothing that was not first rate.

Everything from the food to the service was perfection. Highlights were the lobster and uni pasta and the duck confit. Can’t wait go back and try the rest of the menu!

I must start by stating, I have no problem spending money on a great dining experience. At Republique the food and ambiance are fantastic. BUT, the portion sizes for the price are really not worth the visit considering all other great restaurants in Los Angeles. All and all, not a great value; but if money is no object then enjoy. PS...They also do not honor Open Table Points for dining here.

Food was great. Service was lacking tremendously. Waited over 15 minutes for the server to process our payment. She ignored us for the entire meal. Saw the bus boys more than the server.

Hi,

My wife and I were celebrating our one year marriage anniversary and we chose Republique because of the great things we heard about this restaurant.

We loved the experience and food at Republique. Katie made us feel amazing by providing us with the best service possible.

Please try the pappardelle and short rib, they were both delicious.

Overall Republique is amazing and I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone visiting Los Angeles.

We had reservation so we were seated promptly. We ordered Gioia Burrata Toast, Sea Scallops, and Madadine pasta. Toast is just 1-2 bites portion. Scallops and pasta are good, but overall overpriced.

Had a reservation for a party 7 with an option for 2 adults to be seated at the bar. I appreciate the bar reservation, however the service was hit and miss because they were understaffed. Additionally, they initially had seated my guest by the 'oven' which was NOT acceptable - please do NOT attempt to seat your guests there ! I had the table switched. The table service was wonderful, corroborated by my daughter and her friends. Overall, the food was fabulous, but the service and seating was not up to par considering the total bill ($450). We will come back but expect all glitches resolved.

Wonderful experience! The food, the ambience, the service - all outstanding. It was pricey, but the quality and presentation of the food justified the cost of our meal. There were three people in our party and two of us had dietary restrictions (pescatarian and shellfish allergy). Despite this, we ordered family style and had plenty of options. Every dish was delicious, in fact not one of us was able to pick a favorite dish. We were all very impressed.

The food was so over salted as to be inedible. Sad as I have had excellent dinners here previously but unlikely to come back given the high prices.
