What Insiders Are Saying
Game-changing, delicious French food in an incredible space in Mid-Wilshire. Hop on the Republique train.
Always have the best time here - the staff is amazing
Good food but really slow service for the price point. We had a reservation, but had to wait awhile for a table, and then it took forever to get any food to the table.
Absolutely amazing in every aspect!!!! A must!!! Seriously the best meal my husband and I ever had. The service was also impeccable and the building/ambience can’t be beat!
At first we felt a little rushed - the wait-person took our cocktail order and even before all of us had them (they came in fits and spurts), she was asking us if we wanted to order. But she read the room and it all smoothed out and was perfect from thereon. The food was sensational (in the true sense of the word) and we enjoyed every minute. Fantastic dinner, great room. SIt in the back if you want if you want have a conversation.
Service was impeccable and suggestions from our server, Katy, were spot on. We will definitely be back!
The menu is good as it gets. Service was excellent from the door to the table. I never had an empty water or wine glass. I only wish I lived closer. A wonderful experience.
A little eclectic and not totally organized but worth a visit (very uncomfortable wooden seating).
Start to finish, everything was impeccable. Spectacular service accompanied with dazzling cuisine. A truly fantastic experience.
Felt Expensive because of mediocre food and ambient.
Appetizers: very, very very small portion (size of miso soup cup) for me appetizer is to share
Salads: ordinary (why $20 and above?)
Pasta: very, very small portion (nothing special)
Wine: very good!! ( no credit to restaurant)
Meat: good but ( asian fusion with down sized marinate) be bold!!
The taste overall had Korean+Italian+American=good but nothing Wow nor authentic
Terrible service. We opened a bottle but it tastes sour(not drinkable), then they pour it back and sold to the other table when we left. I was shocked....
Went for my anniversary dinner with my wife. It was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time!
We had a great night but we were seated under a freezing vent.
The food was amazing, it was definitely worth the price.
The food was unusual and spectacular. Creative yet approachable. And the wait staff was personable, helpful and right on the money. It's a tad expensive but worth every dime. I'd go back many, many times.
Fantastic meal. All dishes were delicious and the apple cocktail was fantastic. Pricey, but you know that going in.
The food was inconsistent. Great chicken one night; another night it was just ok. Same with the veggie side - incredible one night, not that great another night.
Salad was good but insanely overpriced.
Kaisersmarren was not that good.
Chocolate cake quite good.
Had a fantastic meal - I can see why this place has become one of the iconic restaurants in LA, and why it is still so hard to get in after all these years. Food quality, presentation and serve times were all outstanding. The struggle I had was with service and price. We had a lovely server, they just couldn't get our order right. Miscued 2 of the 5 things we got. They were small errors, but our order was also pretty small to begin with. They obviously remedied the mistakes (brought the proper item out).
I'm generally not one to complain about price either, but I feel compelled in this case. I understand why dishes cost what they cost (rising food and labor costs) and I'm generally happy to pay for that. We had two vegetarian pasta dishes - one filled pasta that cost $27 and another non-filled pasta that cost $37. For context, the Duck Breast on the menu costs $27 and the Short Rib costs $37. These were not massive bowls of pasta, they were moderate (but adequate) portions - just not for the price. They were executed as well as any pasta at Osteria Mozza - but no pasta dish at Mozza costs more than $25.
I'm glad I dined here and don't regret it at all, not sure if I am compelled to revisit.
Our server couldn't get us out the door fast enough even though we ordered cocktails, appetizers, entrees and dessert and coffee. She clearly wanted to get the next group seated ASAP.
We have been here many times and its luster has worn off for us. The food is good and the atmosphere is quite lively, not great if you are trying to have conversation since it is quite loud.
Visiting from the east coast our family dined at a several nice restaurants in the Greater Los Angeles over the long Thanksgiving Holiday. But, one stood out from the rest. Despite the much hyped anticipation, République delivered a memorable culinary experience from the attentive waiter to the ambience and food. The Risotto with White Truffle was creamy and each bite was savored. The Dover Sole with Brown Butter Sauce, de-boned table-side, absolutely melted in our mouths...hint: be sure to have plenty of baguettes to soak up that sauce! (Of course, also enjoy the baguettes with their imported Normandy butter) The Prime Ribeye Cap (what was that marinaded in???) tasted so tender and dissolved after the first bite. And, just when you think it can't get any better...the brown butter cake and the ice creams were crazy delicious. If you're with a large group, sit in front at the communal table for great banter, otherwise request a seat in the back...if on a date, upstairs offers a more sedate setting. Dinner reservations can be difficult to secure...timing the OpenTable system is everything. Talagang masarap! (truly delicious!)
So much fun. We can’t wait to go back!
Great meat and cheese boards vegetables all excellent! Good service!
My only complaint is that the place is a bit too crowded. However, the food was amazing, so it makes sense a lot of people would want to go there. And it was Friday, so there's that. Anyway, one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I'm not bothering to recommend any one thing because literally everything my wife and I tried that night (and we dived in, trying all the courses and lots of stuff) was exceptional. It wasn't a cheap meal, but the food is so good, you pay the bill not feeling gipped or like you've wasted money. My wife and I are already planning to go again soon.
As good as it gets. Blown away.
Took awhile to be seated and I think they actually had forgotten about us. The server was a little harried and the sommelier took forever to come over to bring the wine. The place was way too loud too. Food was good tho.
I went to Republique for my birthday and it was excellent. The food was amazing. My husband talked about the cauliflower dish for about 25-30, he couldn't stop talking and eating it.
I'm looking forward to going for breakfast and lunch.
Not a great experience. Overrated.
Amazing. Service, food, ambience. Everything was the best. I wanted to eat the entire menu.
Best wedding anniversary ever!! Not only did they make our night memorable, it was epic in other ways... Thank you Republique!!
The food was amazing! Would have given 5 stars for every category except we had some issues at the start of the evening. We arrived before our friends and were told we'd be seated when they arrived. They arrived shortly thereafter but then we were made wait for the host to check in several other parties before we were seated. Then they took us to a communal table (that was actually set up for 3) when there were several 4 tops available. We complained as we'd had these reservations for some time and didn't want to sit at a communal table, the hostess went back and forth several times and eventually we were seated at a regular table. She said Open Table states that you may be seated at a communal table but probably not strong enough. So just beware of that when making reservations. After those hitches everything was great, from the servers to the sommelier and especially the food!
A really excellent restaurant, and worth going back to, for sure.
We’ve been to Republique a few times before (last time was over a year ago), and we felt that it wasn’t nearly as good as the precious times we’ve been. Our overall experience left us feeling we might not go back. Service, seating, food quality (the rock fish was bland and over cooked, and the short rib was all fat) was all disappointing. Too bad, we were looking forward to the evening with friends.
Top notch. High end special occasion restaurant. Excellent and memorable good, great service. My new favorite place
Short review: Bad for special occasions.
Long review: I'm writing this review on behalf of my boss. I made reservations for him and his wife's 20th anniversary. I called multiple times to request and confirm they had a note about a quiet table for their special occasion. We even contacted them and contemplated buying a private dining room for the night (but didn't end up booking). I called the day of to make sure they had the note in their system, but when they arrived they were placed at a very loud communal table. What's the point of dining here if a 20th anniversary isn't considered special?
I was very disappointed with the whole experience at Republique. The food was great but not worth putting up with the kaos and noise levels. I did not enjoy the communal seating for this type of food. I left feeling like I paid entirely too much money for an experince that left me feeling stressed and dying to leave.
Delicious, as usual. I could wish for the menu to change a little more often and to have some lighter main dishes.
Great food & ambiance but felt the food was a little overpriced for what it was, although no complaints about the quality of the food :)
Been here a couple time and the food never disappoints. My waiter on the other hand missed a couple things... She didn't bring the bread. She didn't bring the cup of ice we requested. She served us pork when we let them know I had an allergy. She offered me fries as a replacement, but those came out closer to dessert. (sigh*)
This was my second time at République and I loved it even more the second time! The foie gras toast and the spinach cavatelli were standouts.
The service was very poor. We waited 45 mins to be seated while had a reservation in advance , and waited another 45 mins until our waiter approached us to take our order. They need to have more waiters to attend their tables.
