Amazing food, beautiful ambiance. Katy was a SUPERIOR server!
One of our top restaurants. I highly recommend this for groups.
Always one of the best in LA and never pretentious
We had a wonderful meal the building decor and beautiful and historic. The bread is freshly baked and it is as you would have traveled to France to have a baguette
Republique is a beautiful restaurant on many levels. The building, an old, soaring former bell tower, is gorgeous. The food is exquisite, and the service outstanding. The upstairs section is quieter. We were seated in the bar area, which is too noisy for conversation, and said that we would wait for upstairs. They were able to seat us in a quieter area downstairs. An amuse bouche of earthy mushroom soup with a splash of 30-year-old balsamic arrived in short order. It's the kind of thing you take a sip of and savor. We also asked for bread and butter right away. My husband consumed a loaf himself, it's that good. We ordered moderately, though there was so much on the menu that looked good. Brussels sprouts with pancetta and a poached egg arrived and our daughter did the honors of mixing the egg in. We delighted in our entrees, duck breast with apple and onion and a soothing porridge, Channel Island rock cod, with mushrooms that soaked up the elixir they were simmered in, and butternut squash agnolotti, which burst, creamy and sweet, in the mouth. Everything was cooked and seasoned just right. Our daughter likes to try new things, so she and I shared an il flottante for dessert. I'd had one in Paris that was a really sweet meringue in a puddle of sweet caramel, so I was apprehensive, but our lovely waitress assured us that none of their desserts are too sweet. It was like eating a delicate flower and fruit topped cloud in vanilla sauce. Republique is truly a fine dining experience, one I'd highly recommend. For us, it's a place for special days, such as anniversaries and birthdays.
I cannot say enough about the food and the service in this restaurant. Our recent experience at Republique was our first, and having a little guidance with the menu was key. The staff was very friendly, professional and helpful and they kept us from over-ordering (which is easy to do). The wine steward really discussed our taste with us before suggesting a nice Burgundy which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We had oysters, the Kanpachi Crudo (it has a Thai curry type sauce, which was amazing), the small Little Gem salad which was good (but could have used an accent ingredient), the white truffle risotto ( so good; I will never again bother with black truffles) and the quail, which had a delicious and innovative set up; very seasonal. We split all the dishes between us and were completely sated.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who cares about food. We will return and bring friends, the next time we are in LA.
Excellent food and service. Sommelier was very helpful. Sat in the kitchen next to the warm bread ovens. A bit pricey.
We had to ask to move to a more private table because we didn’t feel like sharing my husband’s birthday with everyone at a communal table. But once we sat down at a two-top, it was instantly amazing service. From the guy who pours water to the main server, everyone was attentive but not annoying. Class all around. The food was the best food we’ve ever had. Every dish was the perfect blend of acid, heat, salt, and fat. So tasty, perfectly seasoned. Yum yum yum.
Food and service were incredibly fantastic. On pricey side, but would definitely come back.
Waiter Anthony is outstanding.
We always have a great time at République! The seasonal menu always offers something delicious, and the mainstays are fantastic, too. We ordered the Mary’s chicken, a gem lettuce salad, and a tare-glazed short rib. The chicken was incredibly flavorful and moist, and it came with a side of potatoes that is incredible. For dessert, we ordered a Fuji apple tarte tatin lightly sprinkled with comté cheese, which was also very good. As always, the service was excellent, from the manager down to the bust boys; everyone was attentive and very welcoming. My only recommendation would be to try to dine earlier than 8 pm, when the restaurant gets supremely busy and the service may be a little wanting. Street parking is available though hard to find, and valet parking is available at the small, open lot adjacent to the restaurant.
One of the best dinners i've had ever. Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles.
The service is impeccable and the staff is warm and friendly.
Perfectly crafted, delicious and innovative seasonal dishes.
We have dined at Republique a few times. This was our worst experience. Entrees took a long time to come out. We complained that the short-ribs were excessively fatty. A manager spoke to us, and gave us some free cookies for the inconvenience. Considering, the short-rib dish was $45, we expected it it to be more spectacular. It wasn't. A teeny portion -- with at least 30% of it fat. The rest of the entrees were good. But this restaurant is starting to feel way too over-priced and over-hyped. To be fair, their gin and tonic cocktail is still the best G&T in town.
Dinner for two, seated at a very small table.
Barely enough room for the ribeye and two plates.
Food and service were amazing as usual.
I feel this place is too large to have really great service, which is too bad, because the food was very good. Poor service. Don't need to go back.
They took off all the classic French meals. Disappointed
I had never been to Republique, and despite good reviews, I did not know what to expect. It was my girlfriends birthday and I wanted her to feel special. Republique was better than I hoped for. Though the environment seemed casual,It was sophisticated and very comfortable. All the food that we sampled was excellent, and our server was very helpful when we ordered. I will definitely be back, and definitely recommend the restaurant others.
And yes, my girlfriend enjoyed it thoroughly, and did feel special.
Very high quality ingredients, creative cooking with Asian influence. For some dishes, it may need a bit more “accent”
Great ambiance with incredible food. The staff was friendly and very much attentive
Alicia and Michael made our experience, Thanks guys! Food was great, drinks were even better! Looking forward to coming back. If you get a chance to stop by ask for one of the two!
Went for my girlfriends birthday and we both loved it! delicious food and great selection of wine. The food is pricey but worth it definitely! 5/5 for me
It was a treat! The Dover sole was exceptionall. We were upstairs which was a little quieter than the more bustling front of the restaurant. We’ll go back!
It’s noisy, it is hard to hear your conversation partner or what the staff is saying and the food is extremely overpriced and honestly not that great for the money. A few tiny pieces of pork belly (small appetizer size) 45 dollars; phew. A plate of meat 280 dollars. Won’t be going back.
Everything was delicious and loved the atmosphere!
A culinary experience. Every dish was delicious and the service great. We were able to get an early table, before the venue got very full. It is for special occasions, but easy to find an excuse to eat here. The small dishes a great way to get to know the place.
The food was phenomenal. I was here 2 weeks ago and I had to go back a few nights ago because it was that good. The service is wonderful; knowledgeable and attentive but not rushing you. I was surprised to see several items were rotated on the menu so I got to try new things even though only a few weeks between dining experiences. This is my new go to place. You will not be disappointed.
Service was way too fast. We were in and out in 1 hr and 15' for a full meal.
Employees however were very friendly and VERY knowledgeable.
Food was quite good, but dessert (with gellato topping) wasn't much at all, and not consistent with the rest of the meal.
We had a wonderful meal at Republique... as always! Our waiter, Stephan, was AMAZING!!!!!
We came to see our friend who now works there and found a new favorite. From the cocktails to the seating and decor to the service and the delicious food, it’s a home run.
Thank you to Jacque and the staff for helping us beat enjoy this fantastic menu!!!
Outstanding! We got a lovely table upstairs, the service was great, the food is fabulous! We felt very well taken care of, which is nice because it's very trendy and can easily be overwhelming.
The service was really good and quick. As for the food, appetizers were actually OK but were not in love with the sole fish they brought out. It tasted super fishy. I like the atmosphere it was a very trendy place, all different crowd age but mostly young. I might go back again.
Very good food quality and good flavor. Wine list heavily tilted to French and the selections are expensive given the cost of food and the dining experience
One of my favorite restaurants buuut it's gotten just ridiculously expensive. $21 for a "large" but not so large salad? 11.50 for valet now, 4% cost of living fee. Le sigh.
My husband and I dined here for our anniversary. We were only in town for the night, so a friend joined us as well. It was such a spectacular evening. The server was incredibly attentive, as were all staff. The food was delicious. From the moment we sat down, we were so impressed. We particularly loved the Pork Belly and the Cassoulet (which was huge, even with three of us eating it). It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary and our single evening in LA.
With friends in town from Chicago, we wanted to show the latest in LA cuisine and weren't disappointed. The place was packed and yet the reservation was honored pretty close to the set time. A requested table for four where we could converse was granted and thank God for that! To choose "energetic" as the Open Table noise level category is an understatement. This place is loud! Now, for a large party enjoying a Saturday night, this could be a good thing. I would not recommend if it's for proposing to your future life partner, however. We know one of the sommeliers from our favorite wine bar but she was in training after recently being hired so we got one of the senior staff. He knew his stuff. Both white and red bottles recommended were dynamite! Food came in a tasting format with dishes meant for sharing. Everything was stellar! Desert was OK but by that time we had been blown away by everything else so, who cares? One thing that really stood out to me was the service. In such a crowded French Country Inn type of setting where large tables predominated, the staff was attentive to a high degree. We'll be back (just not for a quiet dinner)!
If you get the short ribs, Republique is amazing. If you get the aged rib-eye, which 5 of us did, it is not worth it at all. It was not that special and very expensive ($140 each). The pastas are good, too--especially the mushroom one.
Service was amazing! Food was outstanding!!!
