République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

Republique was delicious and a perfect dinner spot for a spring evening! We ate on the back patio and I was able to bring my dog. They were also very flexible when we were running a half hour late and still allowed us to be seated and didn't rush us at all. Fantastic service and food, would absolutely return!

Well executed dishes that are delicious if albeit slightly overpriced. A couple hot items were closer to warm by the time they got to the table, but the multiple course service was timed perfectly. Standout dish was the Pavlova, a combo of flavors and texture that could rival a Michelin star restaurant.

We dined on the patio and the experience couldn’t have been lovelier. The food and wine were delicious and the staff was so friendly and charming! After not dining out for a whole year, I’m so glad that Republique was my first visit!

I was not a big fan of the tasting menu/related price - we will be back when Republique is back to its full menu as the regular menu always has some very enjoyable bites.

Prefix tasting menu is overpriced for 130 pp.
it did not have any premium dishes like beef or seafood.
Flavors were kind of repetitive. Could experience variety.

Food was excellent in every respect. Filet of Dover Sole, white asparagus, strawberry tiramisu and apple tart all wonderful. Our first dining-in experience at Republique, although we have done take out dinners and take out bakery items since the start of the pandemic. Consistently excellent each time, unlike other highly rated restaurants we've tried. Service can be a bit disorganized at times...we've been shorted on take out orders, but either refund received or order held (did have to drive from SGV twice that day though). But the consistent excellence of the food (and cheerful attitude) more or less makes up for the non-food shortcomings. We will definitely return again and again.

I am not writing about the quality of food, location, space, service, none of that. All 5 star, I spoiled myself dining here. My ONLY criticism is the "ambush" of the tasting menu. The food on the tasting menu was FANTASTIC. I was so impressed, and I loved every second of it, especially the white chocolate dessert. I can't get over it. The ambush I am referring to is the price of the tasting menu not being disclosed online before arriving. I read over the normal menu and more or less figured out what things were going to be like, and I was informed of a tasting menu but there was 0 transparency of the $130 per person price tag. Given I had reservations on a Saturday night, there was no choice but to stay or risk not having somewhere nice to dine. I would have ideally done this tasting experience on a more "occasional" time at that price, for a regular date night, it was quite a shock. 10/10 would dine here again, but cmon, a heads up would be nice. NOTE: The table behind us also had a similar confusion. We overheard them question the tasting menu and its price before putting up with it and eating anyway.

Overall service and food was awesome. Please work on your waiters to give your customers some privacy. The way you have the setup, where waiters come and check in with you every 10 minutes is a complete inconvenience. We were not able to have a conversation as we were approached by a waiter or an employee way more too often. It isn’t always great service when your customers aren’t at ease. Please consider this for the sake of your restaurant and customers. I have given you all star in the exception of this.

The food here is amazing! My husband and I ordered the oysters, red salad, bread and butter, mushroom pasta, and short rib and honestly everything was delicious. We also got 2 desserts. The pavlova was incredible. Some people complain that the dishes are small but this order got us both full and was a great experience for a special night out. Also our server and the bussers were very polite. Definitely worth it to come here!

Our party of four dined on 3/23 in the "outdoor" tent structure. We all agreed that it was one of the most pleasant meals we've had in several years. Our guests -- money-is-no-object foodies -- raved about their meals (duck and salmon), coctails (tequila old-fashions), wines, and even the baguette. We enjoyed the duck and a lobster pasta -- one of the best pastas I've had in a long time. The evening was expensive, but worth it.

When the perfection of the food makes up for the less than stellar service....
On 3/23 we were seated on the corner table closest to la brea ave.
Waiter automatically assumed that we had never been to the restaurant. He felt the need to repeat multiple times “I suggest you share the plates.” “I suggest you order a salad to start.”
Food was actually perfect... camapanelle with the more than generous lobes of uni, the bucatini cacio e pepe with perfectly cooked noodle and kick from cracked black pepper, and the perfectly crisp skin on the king salmon. Strawberry tiramisu was presented in a gimmicky vessel... but tasted divine.
Ended up waiting 15 minutes for the check to be picked up from the table while the waiter was busy ensuring the other table’s request for a special white asparagus dish was met. I understand that finding good FOH is a struggle right now. But cmon. Some professionalism would be very very welcome to an otherwise stellar dining experience.

Amazing dining experience! I took a date here for dinner. Our server Gregory was incredibly friendly and knowledgable and contributed to an even more amazing experience than we surely would have had anyways. The food was excellent, and I would have no hesitation before blindly trying pretty much anything on the menu. The campanelle was especially delicious.

Although the food was good, the service was poor. We were informed that we could only by there for 90 minutes. The main course didnt arrive for over two hours without any staff informing us of any issues. They informed us that they would hold us to the 90 minute limit which was very kind of them since it took them 120 minutes to serve. I noticed everyone else seemed to have the same problem about how long it took.

Went to dinner on a Friday night to enjoy their pre fixe dinner. While the pre fixe is $110/person, the food was delightful and so worth it. They seated us outside and it was a bit chilly on the patio. The service got better as the night went on but at first it was a little lackluster.

Just a first class experience all the way around. Was hoping to get the tasting menu but it was more of an a la carte situation, which suited us fine. We were served quickly and got our wine order in as well from very helpful sommelier. Had the Tagine chicken. among other things.

Extraordinary meal. Can't wait until we are back able to eat inside.
