We were upstairs and it's definitely more quiet. It was a bit too dark so I had to use my phone to read the menu. The food was excellent and our waiter gave us good advice. My suggestion is to provide steak knifes (Laguiole for example) to cut the meat because it was a bit challenging. We had a great time and we will be back!

Excellent experience for my friend’s birthday. The staff was really amazing. All the dishes were delicious. We had beef cheeks, duck and tomato salad which were standouts. I loved the vegetables which were Brussel sprouts cauliflower figs with tahini. House G&T and Old Fashioned were exceptional! Prawns also great! If you get the bread don’t skip the pan drippings! For a party of 6 we ordered two dishes per person, it worked out well.

My husband and I had dinner at Republique with two good friends tonight. It was the first time here for all of us. We all thought the atmosphere, food and staff were fantastic—a perfect, memorable evening on the first day of Autumn at one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles.

My husband and I celebrated our 17 year wedding anniversary. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant to the end of our evening, everything was absolutely perfect. Great place for special dinner or expense account. Wine som is very nice as are the whole staff. Food is rich so order light; 3 things for two is more than enough. Two is probably better for a couple to share. $200/person.

Not worth sitting on the make shift patio and paying premium prices. The baguette and butter was great and a few other items, but otherwise the food was pretty lack luster for the price. The wine was great but we had to wait a while for our glasses to be filled from our bottle. The patio definitely felt like 2nd class service. I would try again inside or a better seat. However it feels like the food might be slipping in quality.

Was there for tomato focused fixed price dinner. All dishes were excellent, especially rouget and thai tomato soup. A few service glitches (pouring an incorrect and incidentally horrible wine) and missing a few meal modification requests. Only real issue was price - by the time tip and tax were added, cost was equivalent of a Michelin 3-star meal in most of the world.

Our first time dining here and we chose the Tomato tasting menu dinner event. Wow. Where to begin. Creative. Delicious. Beautiful. A real treat featuring the most incredible produce. Each course was just so flavorful and complex. We loved each one. The service was crisp but we did not feel rushed. We felt like valued customers but everyone that came to our table. Our multiple courses were delivered and described to us with care and precision. We enjoyed the intimate seating on the second level in the rear of the restaurant space. I wish the lighting was just a touch brighter so I could see the colors of each dish. The wine pairing was good - it's not easy to pair with tomatoes. We definitely enjoyed some more than others. The rosé in particular was a real miss. Also the 3 different sommeliers that came to pour were not on the same level. 2 were very detailed in their description of the wine and explanation of the label and what made this wine special. 1 simply arrived, poured, and said one sentence or so that included the name and varietal. We really preferred the more detailed descriptions since we hadn't heard of any of the European wineries.

A prix-fixe dinner around a single ingredient: the tomato reconstituted in 8 courses. All very delicious, artfully presented, sensibly portioned. Service was attentive and coordinated, but not too fussy or formal. An excellent evening.

It was an extraordinary tasting menu for the season. Every course was tomato-based. My husband is a big fan of tomatoes. I’m so so on them. But every course was so incredibly conceived and elevated, honestly a once in a lifetime meal. Our friends completely agreed. We are longtime fans of Walter, and he still keeps it real and relevant and fresh and exciting. Thank you, Chef!

The heirloom tomato tasting menu was spectacular. Each course had a different tomato featured through a multi-course progression of courses. One of the best meals we have had in Los Angeles this year. Creative wine pairings, too!

Fantastic food, as always, especially at this special "heirloom tomato-based" dinner. The only fly in the ointment for us was the understaffing of servers. Specifically, the sommeliers were so busy, we had to continuously flag them down to get our wine opened and/or poured. This was not the sommelier's fault. There just wasn't enough of them for the amount of diners in attendance that night.

Republique was a 10/10 experience! I took my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it! From the service to the delicious food everything was a 10! They even gave him a hand written birthday card when we walked in. Highly recommend Republique! I want to go back for brunch I hear it’s amazing!

We had heard great things about Republique and were excited to go there for our anniversary. The restaurant was charming and the noise level quite tolerable. Our server started out well and the bread and butter and soft-shell crab tempura were outstanding. Alas, it was all downhill from there. The brussels sprouts/cauliflower/fig were overdone, relatively sparse and immersed/overwhelmed by hummus. The lamb kibbe had a decent taste but was a small portion, swimming in labneh. We had ordered something described as 2 lamb chops with a tomato/eggplant tart. The tart was boring, unattractive, but inoffensive. The lamb chops were two pieces , cut from a single undersized (slightly more than 1 inch thick) lambchop (one bone) and about 50% fat/gristle, yielding one to two small bites of lamb for each of us. When we complained, the waiter shrugged---a completely unacceptable response. When he brought the dessert menu and we selected the chocolate tart, we were told that they had run out (this was about 8PM). The waiter did not offer to bring something else for our anniversary dinner. They restaurant did, however, give us a card reading “Happy Birthday”. Quite fitting since, after our experience, it seems that La Republique is a house of cards with a lofty, yet most undeserved reputation . ...

the crudo, Dover sole, corn beignets, and of course the baguette with butter were stellar. the salad was good. the soft-shell crab was very good but not certain that the celeriac, asian pear, wasabi was the best preparation that I've had. with the soft-shell crab. the wasabi was at the bottom and did not use it. Liam is a good server.

Dinner was phenomenal. The atmosphere, design, and every item on the menu blew us away. I’m going to be thinking about it for weeks to come. Definitely try their baguette 🥖 with the dripping AND butter. The liberty duck was so tender and the skin is crispy to a perfection. The 🦪 oysters we had was fresh. You can’t go wrong with any item.

The food was sublime! While we were on our beginning course, the kitchen sent us an unordered curried tomato soup with basil oil that was so delicious! The cocktails and wine were top notch! The service was the best I've ever experienced. Our waitress was so attentive to detail and helpful and thorough and delightful! All of the staff were terrific. Great job, Republique! Thank you.

It was dandy! Service was perfect. The friendliness of the staff - from bartender to waitstaff to host was refreshing. The food was incredible!! We especially appreciated the attentiveness to our time constraints as we had tickets to show at Pantages without sacrificing quality or service. My wife and I were celebrating our 11 year anniversary and Republique did an outstanding job making it a memorable celebration. We were also running about 25 minutes late due to traffic. Everyone there was very understanding and the service was top notch. The food was perfect - we had to over order because there were way too many things we wanted to try and we were so happy with that decision since everything that they brought out was a show stopper. The corn beignets in particular were delicious. We also loved the handwritten note we received - we put it on our fridge for a keepsake. Looking forward to returning for many anniversaries to come.

First off, the French bread with the butter was amazing! Second, the fish main was probably the best fish dish I have had in years, maybe ever. That said, I was actually disappointed in Republique because the other items we ordered were just good and I was expecting them to be excellent for the price and reputation. We also were there on a Saturday night and I was disappointed that people were wearing t-shirts and shorts and kids were throwing crayons around. The ambiance was not great. If I had to do it again I would but my expectations would be lower.
